Nexus One vs Droid
Now that the Nexus One Google phone has been released, the Droid has a new competitor. The Nexus One and Droid both use Google’s operating system and both are available on Verizon. Unlike the Nexus One, the Droid phone is not unlocked.
Here are the major differences between the Nexus One and Droid:
- Droid will support flash, but we’re not sure if Nexus One will
- Nexus One is unlocked and can be used with other carriers
- Droid has a physical keyboard, while Nexus One only has a virtual keyboard
- Nexus One is thinner
- Nexus One has the Android 2.1 operating system which has a lot of new features (maybe Droid will get this update as well)
The full Droid specs can be seen here and the full Nexus One specs can be seen here.

This is actually not true as the Droid got the 2.1 update in mid-December.
As for major differences, I do like my Droid and initially I was thrilled it came with a physical keyboard, but since the virtual keyboard is so good, now I don’t think it was a necessary feature. This would be the only reason I would want to switch eventually, just to get the thinner version, other than that, I don’t see anything that would make me switch.
didn’t droid get a 2.0.1 update in December? If u have 2.1 u have rooted the phone as it has not been available that I know of in an OTA update.
The Nexus One is currently Not available on Verizon…just T-Mobile or AT&T
iphone have not competition, all company are envious about apple and iphone.
i just lol.
Thanks Yoda
duh duh duh duh duh fthph. Go to school DB
LOL Ringo you fail epically broski, at life.
It really is true you just can not match the feel and smoothness of the iphone os i am no apple fanboy but i use the droid and i can not help but think holy shit this feels like an antiquity in comparison and you have to be an idiot to not think that all those companies didn’t see the iphone and think holy shit we are screwed because it felt like it dropped from space and all these phones are just other companies pathetic attempts of competing with what they can’t beat. it has very little to do with hardware and a lot to do with itunes, app store, and iphone os. It is just a perfect environment.
You’re right… The hundredth seconds of lag hardly noticeable on the Nexus One (and now other Android phones toting the 1Ghz processor) obviously makes the phone worthless when being compared with the all-powerful iPhone. This kind of opinion shows your ignorance when it comes to using phone. Just like the average unsatisfied consumer, you are easily dazzled by the pretty lights and flashy colors. If you’re going to call making a phone with an OS with endless customization possibilities a “pathetic attempt” then you simply don’t understand why people buy Android in the first place. On top of that, it’s nice to be able to choose the phone one wants and still have the best phone OS available to any tech-fan. Android is already being seen on tons of phones and there’s only more to come, which also means only more apps to come. You say you’re not an Apple fanboy but your claim that the iPhone creates “a perfect environment” makes that statement pretty null. I guess in your opinion now that we’ve made the iPhone we should just stop trying to compete with it? I mean perfection has already been achieved, correct? Truthfully, I really just feel bad for you. If you didn’t already have your baby teeth sunk into and latched onto apple’s tit, you might have the foresight to purchase a phone that will (by 2014) have the best phone OS known to man.
The Droid will get the 2.1 within the next couple of days. The update it got mid-December was 2.0.1.
learn your facts fabio
Nexus ships with 4Gb card. Droid ships with 16Gb. both upgradable to 32Gb
Nexus has 1Ghz processor. Droid has 550Mhz.
Nexus has 512RAM/512ROM. Droid has 265RAM/512ROM
Nexus has trackball. Droid has slide-out physical keyboard.
Nexus has better noise cancellation (because of 2 microphones)
Droid has larger screen (480X854 vs 480X800)
Droid LCD colors look better (to my eyes) than Nexus OLED colors
Nexus operating system is more current, Droid will get some updates January 22, more in spring 2010
Droid has a dedicated GPU, Nexus uses onboard graphics (draws from CPU)
Get a Droid if you want to be different.
Get a Nexus One if you want an iPhone lookalike.
Aesthetically speaking of course.
Performance wise – only time will tell…
The Nexus One looks similar to Verizon’s DROID ERIS by HTC.
Nexus One in an HTC
I will never buy a phone with a trackball. That’s so 90s. I wont even use a mouse with a trackball. LOL. I crack myself up.
youre not only an idiot, but a complete tool. LOL. I crack myself up.. Faggot
I ALSO LOL @ U IDIOT, THATS NOT 90′S MORON. SOME OF THE BEST U.S. PHONES HAVE IT SUCH AS BUT NO LIMITED TO: MYTOUCH, G-1, BLACKBERRY TOUR/CURVE/BOLD/PEARL SERIES. SO PLEAEE THINK BEFORE YOU TALK YOU STUPID ASS.
Everything you out in the market is at least six month old technology remember that every 3 months something better comes out. The nexus would be a great phone if it had multitouch capabilities. But It doesn’t the andoid market needs to change, that’s a fact.
It needs a great foundation like iTunes not just an AppStore on your phone with dead ends and if the andoid is an open system why don’t I see most of the jailbroken app ????
I really think that apple would always have the upper hand because the iPhones multitouch capabilities.
elliot.. both phone have multitouch capabilities. However in the US releases of the Android OS this has been disabled due to your apple mother loving Trademark on the multitouch. Yes Yes apple it seems can trademark two fingers. Its going away soon, being shot down now as we speek. You can get this feture turned back on if you install the euro ROM or if you install a browser like dolphin (firefox moble).. put that in your pipe and smoke it… apple fools.
PS you can sysnc your Droids to itunes too, so you dont even have that :)
Apple blows
thank God.. someone who isn’t blowing apple and there ever-loving “iphone”. Great reply, props.. and the sad thing is i use a Mac every day and i still think that the “iphone” blows, but only because Apple monopolizes everything. If apple would just get off their high horse and quit, well for lack of a better word at the time, “stealing” money out of everyones pockets, I think that more people would love the Iphone. As has been proven they will not stop that anytime soon so companies will continue to attempt to out-do Apple and Eventually the Iphone will be shot off its so called pedestal.
Oh and everything on the market is alot older than 6 months.. people in Korea use their phone for everything from unlocking their house to gaining entrance to their computer to buying groceries. they scan a barcode that pops up on their phone which has their banking info on it.
they also buy crap from vending machines with their phones.
you are an idiot and so is the person your agreeing with. just because apple is innovative and all everyone else does is copy is a great reason to hate them. Its funny i have a droid but thats only because i dont have att, but holy shit it sucks in comparison, i mean its not even a fare comparison they shouldn’t even be considered the same category. when the multitouch iphone first came out it was so far ahead of anything else it was a joke. and now with the appstore it still is. the droid sucks and so does the nexus one but not because of hardware. it just lacks any good software it is sad actually because i have a droid and wish apple had some real competition.
Too bad you didn’t wait about 6 months. Iphone is coming to Verizon…
well you need to get your facts straight because the nexus one has and supports multitouch!!!!
the US will always be behind in certain technologies compared to asian countries due to security regulations and business monopolies…
So can the Nexus one play youtube videos?
Yes. http://www.google.com/phone
both phones have and support multi touch…if the program running has it incorporated..if not..then no multi touchy..duhhh. I am gettin a droid in the next week or so because of the super awesome deal..although it’s only awesome for me cause I’m on a family plan and I have more than one line elig. for renewal.
Apple is good at two things. Innovation and PR. Making ordinary objects “look and function” in an appealing manner and promoting the hell out it. Notice I didn’t say efficient or fast. The positive outcome of this type of success is that it spurs others to innovate REAL advances. In the attempt to profit from emulating the Apple mystique, these others companies bring the rest of us who want replaceable batteries, expandable memory, and an open OS the gadgets we REALLY want without compromises.
