New iPhone 4G coming to Verizon Wireless in 2010?

Written By Hans Berger on Saturday, December 26, 2009 | 11:51 AM

iPhone 4G Verizon Wireless
According to Digitimes, OmniVision, the supplier of the 3.2 megapixel camera for the current iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS has secured 5-megapixel camera orders for the iPhone 4G . The iPhone 4th generation  will launch in the second half of 2010.  It will also contain a CDMA chip that allows it to be used on the Verizon Wireless network, if the rumors are true.

Apple launches new iPhones during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). This year the WWDC conference is expected to be held during June, so that's when we will find out whether or not there really is an iPhone 4G coming to Verizon. I'm hoping there will be one because I know a lot of people that would buy the iPhone if it came to Verizon.

Yea I would switch quick

December 26, 2009 at 4:45 PM

The Digitimes article doesn't say anything about a CDMA chip.

December 26, 2009 at 10:12 PM

I'd definitely switch! swsswit

December 27, 2009 at 5:49 AM

The new iPhone is going to be released on June 18th and is going to be called the iPhone HD and is going to be available on At&t and Verizon.

December 27, 2009 at 8:14 AM

Sweet been waiting for this, I'd gladly cancel my current iPhone plan for Verizon!

verizon technition
December 27, 2009 at 1:20 PM

Till this day I hate this rumor if we get it, sweet, if we dont, meh. Itll more than likely go to Tmobile too because EVERYONE wants one, so even crappy sprint ha ha

December 27, 2009 at 1:20 PM

the phone is not coming to verizon i work for apple on 5th ave nyc ny tmobile will get the iphone b3fore any other phone company rumors are 100% false. plus verizon is currently being sued by At&t.

December 27, 2009 at 3:17 PM

That would be my question! If it's gonna be available for both networks, how would that work!? Since AT&T is a CDMA network and requires a smartchip and Verizon's doesn't!?

December 27, 2009 at 3:25 PM

There's absolutely no way in hell that Apple would ever call it the "iPhone HD" after Microsoft just recently released their "Zune HD." I don't know where you get your sources, but you're probably an idiot.

December 27, 2009 at 5:50 PM

AT&T is not CDMA....

December 28, 2009 at 12:08 AM

Verizon's technology is CDMA, wich is old. With gsm all u need to do I'd replace ur dim card and u have a new number, or even change networks. With CDMA u will always be attached to Verizon. Not a pretty prospect.

December 28, 2009 at 12:10 AM

I meant SIM card. ;-)

December 28, 2009 at 2:26 AM

First up Digitimes have never gotten a prediction about the iPhone right - EVER. Second - they can't even fact check known specs - the current iPhone 3GS has a 3.0 MegaPixel Camera NOT a 3.2 MP camera.

December 28, 2009 at 2:51 AM

Dropped the charges long time ago

December 28, 2009 at 5:13 PM

Um...wow Matt...please edit before posting.

How can Apple possibly be making an iPhone 4G when they are working with the iRack and the iRan:

December 29, 2009 at 8:06 AM

Your right WallStreet, don't forget they also have the MacBook Wheel in production as well:

December 29, 2009 at 8:32 AM

Yeah dude.....AT&T...not CDMA. That's Verizon.

December 29, 2009 at 10:56 AM

The iPhone and iPhone 3G have 2 Megapixel Cameras and the 3GS has a 3 Megapixel Camera....They DO NOT have a 3.2 Megapixel Camera,sorry....and Verizon's Coverage is Crappy

December 29, 2009 at 3:54 PM

LOL, Verizon has number one coverage in almost all metro areas. You must be really stupid, or a blatant troll.

December 30, 2009 at 5:13 AM

uhhhh no AT&T has not dropped any law suit

December 30, 2009 at 5:15 AM

dude your A TOOL AND A TROLL.... and yes Verizon sux for coverage where i live and half there phones are so lame

December 30, 2009 at 5:18 AM

its GSM

December 30, 2009 at 6:26 AM

CDMA may be old with Verizon but check out the map as far as 3g network is concerned between AT&T and Verizon and coverage. I think I'll stay with Verizon although I would love to have the IPHONE. What's the since in having a phone that drops calls constantly as I have been told happens with AT&T quite often,.

December 30, 2009 at 6:31 AM

I agree with B. AT&T doesn't even have 3g coverage where I live and Verizon has no problems as far as reception and 3g, especially after merging with ALLTEL. Everywhere I travel which can be pretty rural at times I've never had a problem with Verizon. Customer service is awesome and so is reception.

December 30, 2009 at 6:43 AM

Yep that proves to me that you sir do not know what you are talking about... Anyone else from an Apple store want to comment?

AT&T Rep
December 31, 2009 at 12:23 PM

I work for AT&T and I really don't think that the iPhone will go to any other carriers to be honest. And as far as Verizon goes, it will probably not happen until they go LTE, which will be some time in 2011/2012. Almost 95% of the world uses GSM technology, so why would Apple make a separate batch of phones just for the US? Doesn't make sense. It would be a waste of time for them to manufacture and troubleshoot. AT&T is the only major carrier in the US that does not have an Android based handset yet and I strongly believe that Apple will convince AT&T not to carry an Android device in exchange for an extension of exclusivity. That's my prediction.

December 31, 2009 at 1:38 PM

I'll stick with my BlackBerry Storm and Verizon.
Tried the iPhone for 1 week....was OK...but it's more of a "toy". I prefer a smartphone that is geared (a lot more) towards actual productivity and usefulness. BUT...with that said, the iPhone was much sleeker and sexier. No two ways about that. Sorry BB.
Can't say I wouldn't re-try the iPhone IF Verizon had it, tho.
But AT&T sucked bad for that week. :( Horrible.

December 31, 2009 at 10:58 PM

u do know it aint comin outt there r too much thinhgs going on inside it there wount be enogh space on less its as big as gawd knows wat n evry1 saying its just some stupid rumor

blah blah mf blah
January 1, 2010 at 2:38 AM

Okay I have Verizon and I love its coverage.....unbeatable!As for the AT&T rep....well your a fucking tool bro! I know its a discussion forum but your dumbass opinions aren't helping anyone with their decisions! AT&T workers are a bunch of fucking idiots who don't know how to sell shit, hence why verizons winning this battle!............GO VERIZON!!!!

January 1, 2010 at 5:01 AM

well im not a troll or anything i dont care if u dont believe me i do work for at&t and i gotta admit at&t's coverage is a joke .. thats why even though i work for at&t my personal phone is a verizon blackberry storm cause verizon coverage is amazing .. n i know how some people say the iphone is on at&t cause its GSM. but honestly i think it would be better if verizon took out the next iphone because even if its cdma they can make it like the blackberry storm its works in cdma mode here in the usa but when u go overseas it works on gsm mode like the iphone.. cause the blackberry storm is a hybrid phone runs on cdma and gsm . they should just make the iphone like that.. . also i have found out that in many speed tests i do verizon's 3G is much more and more reliable than at&t 3G...

January 2, 2010 at 6:37 PM

i highly doubt that the next iphone will come out for verizon tmobile will get the iphone before. verizon is too expensive tmobile is cheaper so more people would be with tmobile. plus verizon is just wack

January 3, 2010 at 4:01 AM

Sorry ATT Rep you are not a business guy. Let's dissect this shall we?

1. LTE will not be fully deployed until 2014 by VZN's own admission and initial customers they're seeking on launch in 2010 will be laptop users. LTE will be premium priced and thus NOT a mass market prospect for years. In the meantime VZN will still have the LARGEST wireless customer base in the US, which is CDMA, and will remain so for a number of years - if you're an apple guy with line responsibility for P&L or you're an investor - you have a choice between selling massive numbers of iPhones asap on VZN using CDMA, or you can sell a slowly growing trickle of LTE iPhones a few years from now. Which one is going to offer the larger and more immediate return on investment? Which one is going to offer more direct impact on your competitive standing in the market by churning subs away from ATT ASAP? Chew on that.

2. " Almost 95% of the world uses GSM technology" Which is nice, however seemingly many phone makers are more than happy to make plenty of money selling phones to CDMA carriers like Sprint and VZN. Particularly VZN, the nation's largest wireless carrier - so who cares what the world uses when the US' largest and highest rated carrier uses CDMA. Again, if youre a decision maker or shareholder, your main concern is going to be making money on the iPhone - which clearly can be done with a CDMA version for the states. "It doesnt make sense" - yes it does. If it doesnt then perhaps you should make this really great point to the other few handset companies (i.e. everyone not named Apple) who seemingly have zero problems being happy as pigs making CDMA phones for Sprint and VZN.

3. In the last ATT Earnings call, which hopefully you listened to if you're a rep who knows his job, the ATT Mobility CEO himself stated that iPhone exclusivity would be coming to an end, and began a theme preparing shareholders for that eventuality. This is a marked contrast to the corporate tone at the beginning of 2009 and particularly last year.

ATT Rep - if you really want to sell a lot of phones and services you gotta educate yourself outside the ATT box and understand exactly where ATT is strong and it isnt. Pricing and coverage sucks compared to the competition. iPhone plan pricing is some of the most expensive on the planet and in return subscribers get the worst-rated network in the US. If Apple has any sense and consciousness about what degree of brand liability ATT is to the iPhone and Apple brands they will go VZN.

From all indications that will happen later this year. Thank goodness. Maybe then ATT will concentrate first on improving its network and improving its pricing in order to compete and prevent churn, rather than relying on milking every last drop of blood out of iphone subs to stay viable business wise.

January 3, 2010 at 6:33 AM

what about sprint??? wouldnt mind having a sprint iphone (now that i left att to go to sprint)

January 4, 2010 at 5:52 AM

I'm tired of the stupid Verizon vs At&t map commercials. I've had Verizon and I've had AT&T. I got rid of Verizon because I could never receive calls or make them or get texts due to lack of reception in all the places I went. Sometimes, out on the interstate, between work & home, I'd get like 10 vmails and 30 texts that had been sent during the day but I couldn't get them.
It happens in the middle of the city, out in the boonies, in the suburbs, everywhere I go I had problems with Verizon's reception.
Since I got AT&T, I've never had a dropped call, not even once. I've had AT&T for almost 3 years now. When I traveled to TN, SC, GA, & FL, I also had problems with Verizon. None when I went back to those places with AT&T.

January 4, 2010 at 3:23 PM

Verizon will not get the iPhone since they use CDMA and that's a old technology Apple looks tward the future not the past if anything t-mobile will get it especialy since they need the boost! Allso I'm pritty sure AT&T will fight hard to get a phone that's better than verizons because if verizon had all the cool phones there would be no compitition! AT&T is a great company and cheaper than verizon! I've had both and I'd pick AT&T over verizon any day! There 3g coverage might not be as full as verizons YET but it sure is faster and more reliable!

Jonny Tee
January 6, 2010 at 5:50 AM

Yeah what he said.

January 6, 2010 at 8:32 PM

Good for you. Ultimately, it comes down to which map will work for you. You are in the minority...but who cares? It's working for you.

My experience and the experience of my coworkers & family is the opposite of yours. Verizon is rock solid in the Chicago-land area. AT&T's coverage pretty good, but not as good as V's. I've only dropped calls in places where everyone drops calls (i.e. in elevator shafts in a cell-friendly hospital, etc.). I will say that I did drop Verizon's signal traveling cross-country via car while driving through Montana on an interstate. But...c'mon...it's Montana...;-)

January 7, 2010 at 9:25 AM

CDMA= cancel down MORE at&t

January 7, 2010 at 11:58 PM

Well if you work for AT&T and have a Verizon phone, you aren't cool. You're a freakin idiot. Way to sell yourself out there, Sally. At least be consistent.

January 9, 2010 at 12:56 PM

why would Apple allow Verizon to have the iPhone after all the commercials by Verizon's iPhone wannabe Droid phone, that bash the iPhone? I do not think Apple would allow that to happen. Verizon just needs to keep pushing all their other phones to keep up with AT&T's one awesome phone.

January 10, 2010 at 9:20 AM

Why would it have to be cdma to be on verizon? verizon wireless already announced that they were going to be having gsm and 4g in 2010. so it doesnt make sense that it would be cdma.

January 11, 2010 at 2:38 AM

ive been reading that 3rd or 4th quarter vzw will have some cities available for the new 4g network but i also have been reading that apple ordered hybrid chips that work with utms or some shit like that and also working with cdma aka vzw network. the vzw 4g network wasnt estimated to run fully until 2011. but its all speculation.

January 12, 2010 at 8:09 AM

AT&T drops calls more than VZW. I have been in the middle of important conversations with AT&T and the phone call just dropped. With VZW, clear as a crystal. And would Apple benefit by creating a CDMA iPhone? I think so, especially if it was built for 4g. Remember the first iPhone was not 3g. Apple could have the first CDMA phone that just had the 3g technology and not necessarily 4g.

As for AT&T being cheaper than Verizon, actually they are the same price. Plans, text, data all cost the same. Only difference.....Verizon does offer insurance on smart phones. I have it on my Blackberry Tour.

January 13, 2010 at 12:37 PM

too bad at&t cant keep signal anywhere thats probably why apple wants verizon to carry it

January 13, 2010 at 3:06 PM

Are you serious? Apple would be stupid not to make more money and sell products to Verizon customers.

January 15, 2010 at 1:21 AM

@chris Actually Verizon is going to LTE -not- GSM.

January 15, 2010 at 3:35 AM

oh yea they cant make a new iphone cause they only hav 1 r&d department its apple were talkin about not motorolla or samsung here. im sure theres more than enough people to work on all products

January 16, 2010 at 5:02 PM

Totally agree att is so bad... ive never lost 3g more in my life!

January 17, 2010 at 7:56 AM

verizon has better service and would have some many customers if they carried the iphone

January 18, 2010 at 6:10 AM

AT&T would not "allow" anything - they don't have a choice in the matter. Apple was stupid to launch solely with AT&T (who only has close market share to Verizon BECAUSE of the iPhone) and should have launched everywhere they could (they could have developed a phone to work on Verizon's network).
when the contract is up, Apple would be best served to raise the price of their phone and launch everywhere. They win and Verizon continues dominance on infrastructure (equals better calls) = Verizon dominance of market. Droid may cannabilize, but as the old marketing saying goes, "it is better to have the cannibal in the family".

January 18, 2010 at 9:59 AM

the reason Apple went with Cingular, which then morphed into AT&T over verizon was for 2 reasons. 1 because they originally did go to Verizon with the idea, verizon said they would take it but only if they took off apples software and put on their own like they do with any other device they get so that they could make it the "Verizon iPhone", Apple didnt want to do that so instead they came to Cingular who were willing to adjust their network to handle the software of the iPhone. the 2nd reason was because they wanted the iphone to start of on a GSM platform so that it could be sold throughout the world where GSM networks still reign king versus the New CDMA technology that verizon and companies like vodacom introduced

January 18, 2010 at 6:58 PM

I love my iPhone. My phone picks up very well. The places it doesn't get 3g it picks up edge. I've seen other ppls phones with no bars in places I have full. Not saying at&t is better.. Some of the ppl I am talking about have at&t. You buy a shitty phone you get shitty service.

January 19, 2010 at 2:30 AM

Very well explained BV.... For what ATT had to do to bring their network up to accept the over-load of iphone customers has be remarkable. I myself am a heavy network user. I know if there is one of me.. there is a million just like me. So kudos to att for keeping up. IMO

January 19, 2010 at 6:02 AM

Your statement sounds like someone who makes about 20K per year.............you know nothing about business.

January 20, 2010 at 7:55 AM

Cut him some slack he is only 8 years old! But he is still a DAMF!!

January 23, 2010 at 11:06 AM

AT&T is the Best !! All you haters get a life !!! Verizon will never get the iphone. If the do it will be a cheap version... I guess the droid wasn't the Iphone killer as they claimed. You all didnt even have a line.. Get a life !

January 23, 2010 at 11:08 AM

AT&T is the Best Company. Verizon wants to charge you all $350.00 termination charge cause they cant stand it that AT&T is taking all their postpaid customer. Verizon sucks !!!!

January 23, 2010 at 11:12 AM

I love my Iphone and AT&T !!!! Verizon has Iphone envy... What happened to the LG Voyager, the Droid? I thought those were going to be Iphone killers !!! Verizon sucks man !! Also, they claim they have the best network, then why couldn't I make a call from my cell half the time. They need to be investigated. I don't think what they claim is true and all you Verizon fans need to get a life!! Stop hatin in AT&T and go get you an Iphone,

Oh I see you all couldn't even pass the AT&T credit check thats why your so mad.....cause you can't even get an Iphone if you wanted... lol

January 24, 2010 at 9:07 AM

Al, you may be, by far, the dumbest poster I've seen in a long time.

You have no real information or facts, rather, you're nothing more than AT&T fanboy. The iphone is a great piece of technology, but any objective person will tell you the network its forced on is terrible.

January 25, 2010 at 3:21 AM

Let's put it this way, I've been a Verizon customer thru four phones (8 years) and would be an iPhone user...if Apple had gone with Verizon. ATT data coverage is horrible, which is why I'm planning on hanging onto my Voyager.

My latest two yr. contract is up next month and instead of racing out to get the Droid, I'm waiting for the iPhone to come out later this yr. I've waited all these years, what's a few more months?

January 25, 2010 at 3:43 PM

This Iphone is staying with ATT.....You'll will have to switch to get one!

January 25, 2010 at 5:42 PM

I have had at&t the iPhone and I have the droid now and the service is unreal the coverage the apps you get and 75% of them are free I have friends that have the I phone and can't wait till there contract is over so they can come to Verizon. They don't care if they get a droid or an iPhone if Verizon gets it. Why stay with carrier if you can't get service Apple would make more revenue if they came to a carrier that actually has good coverage

January 25, 2010 at 5:55 PM

I guess if you really knew what you were talking about that would be great put the iPhone and droid together and look up the same apps you want to download and you find that. You have to pay for most of them with the iPhone not to much with the droid that's sad and there is a 375.00 early termination because people will buy them for the discounted price then try to sale them on eBay for a profit get your resources straight before you start judging and if you look at both carriers there plans are identical.

January 25, 2010 at 6:53 PM

I think ur wrong i have at&t and it sucks and had the new i phone it was not worth it.I think if verizon gets it it be better its a better network. AT&T SUCKSSSS

January 25, 2010 at 6:55 PM

TRUE true

January 25, 2010 at 6:57 PM

at&t really bad verizon is the best

January 25, 2010 at 7:05 PM

please dnt let the new ipnone be a waste of phone if at&t gets it..

Lynn Bonaventure
January 26, 2010 at 10:54 AM

My daughter is a regional manager for Verizon and she confirmed that Apple IS making a product that will compare to the iPhone, for Verizon Wireless. No release date has been confirmed but the product IS on the roster.

January 26, 2010 at 12:11 PM

apple doesn't release any information to there own associates so to say they are telling verizon associates is simply not correct.. they maybe working together but only the highest of IT individuals are aware of such a partnership, not someone selling the phone..

January 26, 2010 at 12:11 PM

Apple could care less about the Verizon vs AT&T battle. Imagine how many iphones Verizon would sell. That what they are focused on. The Apple AT&T contract is over this year, or at the end of this year. Once that happens, Verizon is the only place it can go. It WILL happen, I promise you.

January 27, 2010 at 9:23 PM

I don's see why would Apple manufacture two phones for two companies with two chipsets when it can wait until both companies launch LTE (4g networks) and build one phone with the same chipset. Expect that in this case they would be network lock to work either in Verizon or ATT. This is a rumor that I am taking with a grain of salt. If this would ever occur and you can somehow unlock the phone like you can do most gsm or umts devices it would mean that you can take your phone from ATT to Verizon. But it remains to be seen.

January 28, 2010 at 10:55 AM

apple is crazy if they dont give the iphone to verizon because verizon is ten times better and has ten times more customers then at and t. I really want the iphone i have the ipod touch and its amazing i just wish their was a interchangable battery so i could get a extended battery

January 28, 2010 at 12:53 PM

Verizon doesn't have ipone envy. It has an EnV touch, which is just like the Voyager hence the reason the Voyager is not a phone they sell in my area anymore.. I have had a phone since I was 10 and now I am 17. guess what service that was? Umm Verizon. At&t sucks so bad in a lot of places in Pennsylvania. Really, if we couldn't pass credit check we wouldn't have any phone plans at all..

January 28, 2010 at 11:11 PM

I recently left verizon to get the iphone. I will say verizon is better, but ATT is a close second in the NY area. Deep down I cannot picture verizon getting the iphone. I can see it going to t-mobile first. The $350 early termination fee verizon just started really turned me off towards them which is why I finally decided to jump ship.

January 29, 2010 at 12:57 AM

Don't be foolish - keeping up? The traffic in NYC is so much that there are dropped calls and faulty connections all the time!

The Spirit of '76
January 29, 2010 at 3:28 PM

First of all, Tony, your sentence is totally out of order. The two words that you chose to use, "Some" and "Many" (what's even more hilarious is that they're right next to each other) conflict with each other directly. The word "Some" would imply that there are only a few people, while the word "Many" would imply that there are more than "Some". Get your grammar right and then start over.

I've been reading most of the reviews in this post, and I'd have to say that almost everyone in here, minus a very select few, have literally no clue about what they are saying. Everyone's a genius in here I guess!

What the heck are you talking about man? Credit check? What does that have to do with service or a lack of service? Do us all a favor and keep your seventeen years of age, out of sites like this, where you are liable to sound like a fool.

Another one bites the dust!

January 29, 2010 at 3:48 PM

Lynn -

Your daughter confirmed that?!? Don't you think there's a little credibility issue with that? Think about it! Apple doesn't release information on their phones/ any of their products until about 1 month before releasing them. Why would they tell your daughter, of all people??? Don't you think apple's a little smarter than to spill their information out to a bunch of sycophants, who pretend to have the latest and greatest intel, just to sound smart?

VZW Loyal Customer
January 30, 2010 at 1:48 AM

Our family has been with Verizonwireless for years and love their service, family share plans etc. Also, my husband’s company contracts with VZW for all their employees cell phones. We have no interest in changing wireless providers. However, we would be thrilled to be able to purchase the iphone if Apple will open up their service to the VZW market – boom! What a win for everyone. I’m patiently waiting to purchase my iphone through my VZW store!

January 30, 2010 at 3:08 PM

Yeah too bad AT&T's service reception is the worst out of all cell phone carriers!! The only reason I have not purchased an iphone is because I refuse to have AT&T as my cell phone service provider. I agree if Sprint, Verizon, or even T-Mobile offered the iphone, Apple's revenue sales would skyrocket.

February 1, 2010 at 2:54 PM

"straight or strait"...grammar locked down huh?

February 1, 2010 at 4:28 PM

Two thumbs UP for Rick. I totally agree.

February 1, 2010 at 4:37 PM

I have to honestly say, I like AT&T. I will also say that there data coverage is complete trash. I live in cleveland and the 3g data only works in or around that area. Im pleased with AT&T. I like how you can upgrade every year. My huge problem with AT&T is they have the best phone money can buy and are not upgrading the towers for a larger 3g coverage. Its great if you live in large cities. Everyone knows that AT&T has to be making a killing from iPhone, exp because they have had it since the launch. Just my two cents

February 2, 2010 at 3:14 AM

English skills? A strait is a narrow, navigable channel of water that connects two larger navigable bodies of water..... Maybe someone else should work on their English skills?

February 2, 2010 at 6:54 AM

February 2, 2010 at 11:17 AM

ATT is the worst...Go to Florida or Southern IL and try to use an ATT phone, you get dropped calls and sometimes no service!

February 2, 2010 at 3:44 PM

Wow... completely false. AT&T added 900,000 postpaid adds to Verizon Wireless' 1.2 million for Q4 2009. The bulk of AT&T's business is prepaid. These are public numbers that can be verified on the carrier's sites themselves.

February 3, 2010 at 3:57 AM

First of all i've worked for AT&T and Verizon and I can gurantee you that Verizon is WAYYYYY BETTER. AT&T is pretty much FULL OF S**T. And I should know

February 3, 2010 at 9:43 AM

AT&T SUCKS SO BAD!!! The worst reception, the worst customer service and only the iPhone behind it!!!

February 4, 2010 at 1:20 AM

Why do you have something negative to say to everyone's post? It looks like your the one who needs to get a life.

Here is my theory. Get two Phones, One for Verizon and One for AT&T.
Then no one would be worried about there service or hoping that the iPhone would come out for verizon. If you really want the iphone, then switch to at&t.

February 7, 2010 at 1:31 AM

Why wouldn't apple want verizon to carry the iphone ? It's all about money, apple will make millions when when the iphone hits the verizon market , and personally I can't wait. The iphone is the best pjone on the market right no and when verizon picks it up, the droid will fall by it's side

February 8, 2010 at 10:20 AM

verizon beats at&t, but sprint beats them all. sprint has 4g coverage in a lot of cities already.

February 9, 2010 at 7:12 PM

After AT&T's contract with Apple is up later on this year, AT&T has no say at all on who Apple can sell the iPhone to. I believe Apple will allow Verizon and maybe others to carry the iPhone. Why would Apple miss out on an oppurtunity to make so much more money if they sell to AT&T and Verizon?

February 11, 2010 at 12:04 AM

All that say Apple won't allow this to happen needs to read a few more sites. The contract is up in June, the only reason Apple hasn't come out and said it is because it would be a breach of their contract. Verizon has the dominate Wireless coverage because of the way they have spent thier funds over the year. They have devoted more than 80% of thier funds to wireless while AT&T is focusing on the Versa market. It's why the coverage for Versa is expanding everywhere, but FIOS is taking forever.
Verizon will have the iPhone in the next 6 months. If you want it just wait

February 11, 2010 at 6:40 AM

the only thing keeping at&t alive is the iphone and they know that. I believe that verizon will eventually get the iphone and when that happens I wouldn't be surprised if they buy out at&t (as they did alltel) or at&t just goes under completely.

February 14, 2010 at 4:00 PM

@ The Spirit of '76
How about you stop commenting on posts just to correct grammar mistakes? N one cares and it's annoying. Get a life.

February 14, 2010 at 4:06 PM

I completely agree with Courtney and Ant T. Go be perfect somewhere else. Bye!

February 15, 2010 at 8:08 AM

I've been with Verizon since they merged and it has really good coverage I tried AT&T and I switched back I had no coverage and I keep losing connection and dropped calls. So if anything I think apple will be making a good decision if they let Verizon Wireless have the iPhone.

February 15, 2010 at 2:38 PM

Ok heres what you need to do. Get the iphone with ATT then walk around the corner and get the VZW MiFi. BOOM Best of both worlds. You get the map and the apps!!! But i will be picking up my iPhone later this year with VZW, this is a guarantee. :)

February 16, 2010 at 8:28 AM

No it doesn't....do you research

February 23, 2010 at 10:32 AM

Dude, if Verizon took the Iphone 4G it would be sold out every second they get a new shipment. People will probably shoot eachother over it!

February 24, 2010 at 6:55 AM

Ok here's the deal Apple will never go to verizon because they are not giving up itunes and the app store for verizon vcast and verizon don't want to give up vcast, they want to keep control of everything you buy on verizon, and they can't come to no agreement.

iTunes and v cast
March 3, 2010 at 4:27 PM

Why don't they just make the iPhone use iTunes and all verizon phones use v cast? I hope the iPhone 4g will come out on verizon..... it just has too, because AT&T sucks.

danny boy
March 10, 2010 at 2:10 AM

I think that’s true Verizon bits at&t and spring has 4g

March 10, 2010 at 3:56 AM

Okay BRY I find it hard to listen to anything you say when you can't even speak proper english. "and they can't come to no agreement" ???

March 13, 2010 at 10:26 PM

thank u at&t will never go to verizon they suck at&T is the shit i love them i has been with them for two years and i hope that they dont go to verizon cuz u will pay out the as for the iphone if they go to verizn

March 15, 2010 at 3:50 PM

People saying verizon doesn't want to give up vcast for the app store/iTunes. They don't have to give it up for every phone. None actually. Take the droid for instance, it has it's own app store, completely seperately from vcast or get it now. Verizon wouldn't own rights to that, apple would.

March 24, 2010 at 3:08 PM

I just wish Apple would go ahead and say the IPHONE is coming to Verizon or not. I'm so close to switching to AT&T so I can have the IPHONE, but I really don't want to. I've been with Verizon for so long and I really really like the service, I don't want to switch I just want the IPHONE and I will try to wait until June.

April 3, 2010 at 11:57 AM

My family has been with verizon for years. i cannot see us switching providers just for the iPhone. I am esstatic that there is the possibility for the iPhone coming to Verizon. I may just buy one whenever it comes out.

April 4, 2010 at 7:18 PM

For those of you praising AT&T , Verizon was the original chosen carrier for the iPhone and that says alot, and now Apple realize that they are losing a whole lot of Revenue by continuing an exclusive contract with AT&T, Verizon has over 6 million more wireless customers than AT&T hands down, Apple knows it could make a real killing with Verizon Wirless and possibly Sprint, so many rumors of drop calls on AT&T network, also what about all those cheesy commercials that AT&T has on TV using this Actor to talk non sense, at least Verizon TV commercial ads are highly professional

April 13, 2010 at 3:47 AM

I am with you on this one. I have had Verizon for 4 years now. Before that I had At&t for 5 years (started on cingular) which my family still continues to use. They have worse coverage with at&t then I do with Verizon. Also, my friends with at&t (including the iphone) always have crappier coverage than my Verizon phones including when I had to go back to my old razr3. As far as data goes, Verizon has had data phones for the longest time i.e. the blackberries which were in existence long before the iphone was ever dreamed of.

April 13, 2010 at 9:19 AM

Yea apple would make a killing and so would other carriers if they got the iphone. what we need is a iphone on verizon with a sprint plan. Verizon has best survice, and sprint has best plans esp. with 49 bucks for everything. verizon is just to high. if verizon gets an iphone thought im gettin it either way

April 14, 2010 at 2:29 AM

lol sad but true

April 14, 2010 at 11:24 AM

Hopefully Apple wont' let Verizon cripple the Verizon iPhone... cuz I am switching back to Verizon when it comes out.

April 17, 2010 at 7:20 AM

No lie bro, if verizon takes away features like wifi I will bitch at them like no other...

April 17, 2010 at 9:12 AM

Sprints 4g is just a name if you look into the network connection speed is not faster than the current 3g its just another name for the same thing.

April 19, 2010 at 10:42 AM

at&t is the world number one service carrier so suck a c0ck verizon sucks and apple is only thinking about going to verizon because at&t isnt renewing their contract with apple pu$$y

April 19, 2010 at 4:38 PM

wrong, 4g is about 10 faster than current 3g, I wish people will just stop being idiots and actually do some research before they flops their mouths

April 20, 2010 at 2:11 PM

ok both sides of this are WRONG!
the only people who know what is really going on are the good folks down at apple and Verizon. If the iphone were to be provided by Verizon it wont be as simple as it seems. First there will most likely be 2 iphones. the at&t iphone and the Verizon iphone. apple wouldn't switch to Verizon and be exclusively available to them. there are approx. 21mil iphones out in the world (of course not all of them being used) and apple wouldn't cut those at&t customers off from receiving new iphones every year. the at&t iphone plan/deal would be the same but the Verizon iphone could receive some major and minor cut backs like:

-possible vcast, im not saying it will happen but vcast is a huge source of verizons income and they will try to push it on apple

-a lower quality plastic iphone. the iphone plan on Verizon will likely cost more than at&t so to make it more affordable apple could switch to lower grade materials

i would also like to add that these rumors have been going on since '08 so i wouldn't get your hopes up. apple also made a statement a while back saying that they wouldn't provide the iphone on verizon until they upgraded to a 4g network and their estimates say that in 2012 it will only be 66% set up. as u all probably know that apple and droid have a rivalry and they wouldn't work on the same network. last fall verizon also mocked the iphone on the droid commercials. i don't know how apple feels about this but id be pretty pissed off. and might i add that no one really knows when the apple-at&t contract expires so....... yea again don't get your hopes up. and the ipad recently came out and the ipad with 3g is on its way and guess what, its for at&t. if apple were to switch to verizon they wouldnt come out with a new device that uses at&t right before they made the big switch. if youve done ur research on the lost prototype iphone then you should know that it uses at&t. so i dont know, based on past experiences with the whole "iphone coming to verizon " thing id say the chances are slim to none. but i could be wrong. sorry to everyone who wants the iphone to come to verizon but i just think it should stay where it is. switching would cause too much problems.

April 20, 2010 at 3:00 PM

Steve- you are the only one thinking about this with a clear mind. I understand that people on verizon want the iphone and are excited about the rumors of it actually being available with Verizon-but thats exactly what they are- rumors. There has been no communication from Apple stating that they are making a CDMA version of the phone. Apple has for a long time-been very exclusive with who sells their products- mainly their own retail stores. Apple just last year started selling their computers at Best Buy- Apple is in no way having any trouble making a huge profit conducting business as is. AT&T just sent out a statement to their employees that they are investing a few billion dollars to upgrade their wireless network. In all honesty- do you really think AT&T would put THAT much money into upgrades if they would be loosing their contract with Apple? It doesn't make sense. If they knew that the iphone would be moving to Verizon, they would know that they would be loosing quite a bit of customers-which would free up bandwidth and signal for customer who stay. There would not be a need for such a huge undertaking. And with Verizon's commercials for the droid- it has been one constant attack against Apple after another which I understand that they are a competitor but do you think Apple would really put much effort into bringing their phone to a company who already has a product that in such competition with the iphone? If Verizon did get the iphone one of two things would happen- either the droids would would get killed off (because the only reason the droid is doing well is because Verizon doesn't have the iphone) or two iphone sales will not be as high as expected and thus not be the ideal business move because the the main competitor device is being sold right next to it, in the same store, on the same network. AT&T doesn't offer a phone that is comparable to the iphone which gives the iphone a better advantage than it would with Verizon. But who knows-Since day one- there have been rumors of the iphone going to Verizon-and it hasn't happened yet, so I guess I will believe it when I see it.

April 21, 2010 at 1:20 AM

its good to see that there are other people who actually do their research.
what if apple made their own cell network? (i know how hard this is to do and im not serious so i dont want any comments from some smart asses telling me off)

April 21, 2010 at 1:22 AM

if they ever did though it'd be pretty bad ass

April 21, 2010 at 3:09 AM

Guys-If you're going to post forthe world to see, at least sound semi-educated. "can't come to no agreement"? "i has been"? And you are both wrong. Verizon is the #1 wireless provider in the states for a reason and Verizon is getting the iPhone this summer.

April 21, 2010 at 4:29 AM

Sprint sucks compared to Verizon and ATT's service. unless your in a city with sprint. Forget sprints 4g coverage if calling sucks on sprints network then well 4g will also. ive had sprint verizon and ATT and i can tell you that att and verizon are pretty much equal as far as call coverage i have friende currently with verizon and in some spots i dont get service and they do and in others i get service and they dont its a trade off

April 21, 2010 at 2:30 PM

HA! That would be awesome! I would be one of the first to sign up! There has yet to be an Apple product that I dislike. Everything I have from Apple has worked perfectly-above my expectations. I know that there are people out there who have had troubles, but the ratio of someone having problems with Apple vs. any other computer company is in no comparison!

April 23, 2010 at 9:16 AM

okay.. i had sprint for a long time.. i live in a small town in North Carolina & im gonna tell you sprint really sucks here!! most of these people who say all these phone companies are great have no idea until they get in the country!! lol

April 23, 2010 at 3:04 PM

just heads up.... i was working with a "tech" on my job, that use to work for a company that was in compitition with verizon....(he helped make ring-back tones then verizon did a walk-round of their building, and stole their idea....) and he knows a guy athat says iphone coming to verizon in mere months!!!!!!

April 25, 2010 at 6:04 AM

Great, more apple cheerleaders. "Yay! I jeez in my pants when I get to hold apple's proprietary product." And when was the last time you worked on technology? First Bill Gates decides to dumb down a UI using the OS Windows. Sure enough Apple has to simplify it even more for morons like you two. Just think about that while you are whacking off to your iPad.

April 25, 2010 at 10:54 AM

I think it would b osm for a iphone for verizon they get so much better service

April 25, 2010 at 10:56 AM

Sprint sucks verizon get better service

April 25, 2010 at 8:34 PM

'emm sprint has an agreement with verizon sir.. so if you can sound a bit educated your self.. they have the same coverage as verizon.. plus for three phones unlimited talking texting and data with insurance on 'em (two bb curves and a htc) we only pay about 180..
there are places i dn't get service (but i'm like really in the middle of fing no where) but sprint has free raoming as well.

April 27, 2010 at 10:16 AM

im a trucker and verizon works in more places than at&t ever would from the city to west bubble f$%K. in at&t's commercials they never seem to argue with verizons constant attacks on their lack of coverage. You Douche.

April 27, 2010 at 10:19 AM

steve that comment was hilarious lmfao

April 27, 2010 at 10:23 AM

i wan't an iphone so bad i have an ipod touch but you have to find wifi hotspots to surf the web i wanna search the web anywhere i f&*%ing want to and alot of the apps require web access my ipod is nothing more than a pretty mp3 player i wanna have fun like the rest of you iphone owners.

April 29, 2010 at 4:10 AM

I actually don't think the name of the phone is going to be iPhone 4G. The 3G and 3GS was just based on the name of the network connection. But if there would be a new network called 4G it would fit right on. We will soon find out what the new name will be...

April 29, 2010 at 2:47 PM

it shall be called....the vtunes! lmao jpjp

September 12, 2010 at 6:32 AM

please at&t has sucked for years i actually can get a signal where i am with verizon and if they get the iphone at&t will be hurting

September 16, 2010 at 7:58 AM

okay, we are in September, and verizon still does not have the Iphone...people never get it, that rumors are never true... just wait until it comes from the source.. Verizon or Apple.
