Windows Live Essentials 2011 Download Officially Released

Today Microsoft officially announced that Windows Live Essentials 2011 is available for download. Windows Live Essentials is a bundle of apps created to supplement Windows.

Chris Jones, the Vice President of Windows Live Engineering for Microsoft announced the final Windows Live Essentials 2011 release in a blog post.

Jones wrote, “Together with Windows 7 and the new Internet Explorer 9 beta, Windows Live Essentials completes your Windows experience and connects your PC to the services you use every day”.

Dell will be the first PC manufacturer to ship PCs with Windows Live Essentials 2011 and Windows 7 pre-installed.

The Windows Live Essentials 2011 software is only available for Windows 7 and Windows Vista. “If your computer is still running Windows XP, you can, of course, continue to use the current Windows Live Essentials software, and then switch to Windows Live Essentials 2011 when you buy a new PC or upgrade to Windows 7″, wrote Jones. Microsoft Office 2010 Officially Released Worldwide

Microsoft Office 2010 Software was officially released worldwide today, and announced in a Microsoft press release. Microsoft Office 2010 can now be purchased at over 35,000 retail stores around the world, including Best Buy, PC World, Amazon, or directly from Office.com.

HP Dell, Acer, Asus, Samsung, and Sony Corp will all offer the option to buy Office 2010. More than 100 million PCs will ship with Office 2010 preloaded in the next year. The preloaded versions are trials which can be activated after the trial period ends.

Currently Office 2010 is available in 10 languages but will grow to 94 languages. The retail price of Office Home and Student 2010 is $149.99, Office Home and Business 2010 is $279.99, and Office Professional 2010 is $499.99. You can click here to buy Office 2010 from Amazon for discounted prices.

XBOX 360 Slim Release Date – Europe in July, US this week

The XBOX 360 Slim Release Date for Europe has been announced by Microsoft on Twitter. According to a tweet by Microsoft, July 16th is the date Microsoft is releasing the XBOX 360 Slim gaming console. Those living in the US will be glad to know that the new XBOX 360 releases in stores this week

New XBOX 360: Microsoft Announces XBOX 360 Slim

New XBOX 360 gaming console was announced by Microsoft during the E3 gaming conference. Think of the New XBOX 360 as a XBOX 360 Slim, because it’s slimmer. The New XBOX 360 gaming system has a black glossy box. According to a Microsoft Twitter account, July 16 is the date Europe will get the New XBOX 360.

Features of the New XBOX 360 include:

Horizontal or Vertical form factor
“Whisper Quiet”: Basically this means the New XBOX 360 is more quieter than the previous XBOX 360
Built-in 802.11n WiFi
250 GB Harddrive
Kinect-Ready: Supports the Kinect technology

Barrier successfully avoided for HTC Droid Incredible and HTC Evo 4G

The barrier was successfully avoided for HTC Droid Incredible, HTC Evo 4G, and all other Android phones that HTC has today. HTC violated some patent of Microsoft’s, and could have potentially faced a lawsuit.

Instead of Microsoft suing HTC, they both signed an intellectual property agreement for smartphones running Google’s Android operating system. HTC will need to pay Microsoft an unknown amount for selling each Android phone.

The HTC Droid Incredible launches on Verizon tomorrow, and their new HTC Evo 4G phone is launching in summer 2010. Both of these new phones are running Google’s Android operating system. Looks like someone will be paying Microsoft a lot this year, thanks to our patent system.

No Microsoft for iPad?

Apparently, Microsoft does not have any further plan on creating a version of Office suite programs to run on Apple’s iPad, as stated by Stephen Elop the president of Microsoft’s business division. According to Elop, the company is investing further through a ‘wait-and-see’ approach in deciding whether or not it would look towards tailoring software for the iPad, releasing today. Stephen also included that Google has not yet made any development against Microsoft in the business software market either. In an interview recently, Elop stated, “We haven’t heard anything about Google making inroads against Office, because they’re not.”

Microsoft is selling the dubbed Office 2010 version of their product on May 12^th which is a version designed for businesses. Later on it seems that the company will be introducing stripped-down versions of World and the spreadsheet program, Excel accessible free over the Web. The company is less interested in Google or any other competitor discussion, rather they are concerned about moving to new ‘cloud-based’ versions of Microsoft software. Elop said, “We never say never, but we have no current plans” to develop a version of Office for the Apple iPad”. However, it is likely that an iPad edition of Office will be built by a unit within Microsoft’s consumer bsuienss that creates versions of Office that work with Apple’s Macintosh personal computers.

We are unable to create or save new files in the folder in which this application was downloaded

If you are a college student who purchased Windows 7 for $29, you should have received your download link for Windows 7 in your e-mail. I received mine, and like many other people I got an Unloading the box error message: We are unable to create or save new files in the folder in which this application was downloaded. Microsoft and Digital River are both aware of this problem and are working on fixing this.

This error message only appears for those people who are trying to update from a 32-bit Windows operating system to a 64-bit. You cannot upgrade from a 32-bit system to a 64-bit system, according to Microsoft’s FAQ page. I would recommend just saving all your data to an external hard drive and then doing a clean install of Windows 7. If you still want to upgrade you can, but it’s not going to be easy. You’ll need to do a custom install, and follow the steps here.

Today Microsoft has officially released Windows 7. If you are not sure whether or not your system supports it, you can download the free Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor software to check if it does. The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor checks your PC to see if it’s ready to run Windows 7. When it’s finished, you’ll see which upgrade options are available and get guidance on fixing the system program, and device issues the Advisor found before you install Window 7.

Note: Before you install the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, it is recommended that you plug in and power on any USB devices or other devices like printers, scanners, or hard drives.

It only takes some minutes for the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to check for compatibility. The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor shows two reports: One 32-bit report and one 64-bit report. This will show you whether or not you will be able to update to 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7. The reports are also divided in to three sections:

System
Devices
Programs

If your system supports Windows 7, the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor will display the following message: “Your computer can run Windows 7“. If it does not support Windows 7, then the Advisor will tell you what issues it found and how you can fix them.

On September 15, Microsoft finally released the Zune HD MP3 Player. I ordered a 16 GB Zune HD which is Black and retails at $219.99. The 32 GB Zune HD retails at $289.99 and is platinum but can be customized with either a red, green, or blue color at ZuneStore.net. Pictured above is the Zune HD box, and eveything that came inside it.
