Jailbreaking May Become Illegal Soon, Help Keep it Legal and Act Now

Jailbreaking was officially declared legal on July 26, 2010 by the U.S. Copyright Office. Unfortunately the ruling handed down by the U.S. Copyright Office was not permanent and it will be expiring soon, and if it doesn’t get renewed then jailbreaking will not be legal anymore. The EFF wants to convince the U.S. Copyright Office to renew the jailbreaking exemption, and also expand it to tablets and allow the jailbreaking of video game consoles as well.

You can help keep jailbreaking legal by submitting comments to the U.S. Copyright Office. Go to EFF’s Jailbreaking is Not A Crime webpage, read their page, and following their link to submit your comments to the U.S. Copyright Office. The deadline for submitting your comments is on February 10 at 5 PM Eastern, so be sure to submit your comments by then.

Apple hires Jailbreak Developer, Comex

Remember the guy who made the easy to use JailbreakMe software? Nicholas Allegra aka Comex got hired by Apple as an intern. Congratulations Comex, you deserve this job! Comex will be starting his job the week after next. He hasn’t revealed his job position yet, but judging by his skills he will probably be working on security.

What does that mean for the jailbreaking community? Well, once he starts working with Apple he definitely won’t be allowed to build jailbreaks. But in response to someone saying “RIP JailbreakMe” on twitter he said that he does hope MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev Team will be able to work on JailbreakMe 4.0. If Comex is in a security related field, then this will definitely make the cat and mouse game more interesting and fun for other jailbreak developers.

Apple is lucky to have Comex working for them. Please don’t think of Comex as evil or a traitor, because he is just thinking about his future. This is just an intern and it will definitely help build his credits and get more experience in his field.

Jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 Untethered — iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod touch 4G, and iPod touch 3G

You can now jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 untethered as the iPhone Dev Team has now released the Untethered iOS 4.3.2 jailbreak. Credits for the redsn0w software go to iPhone Dev Team and the exploit goes to i0n1c. Just follow the steps below to jailbreak. If you want to unlock your iPhone to use it on another carrier, you should not jailbreak or update to iOS 4.3.2 yet as PwnageTool software for it has not been updated for it yet.

Apple also released the iTunes 10.2.2 download, but you can still jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 untethered so it’s safe to update to iTunes 10.2.2.

This jailbreak is compatible with the following devices:

Jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 Untethered iPhone 4 (GSM) — [UPDATE: WORKS on iPhone 4 Now!]
Jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 Untethered iPhone 3GS
Jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 Untethered iPod touch 4G
Jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 Untethered iPod touch 3G
Jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 Untethered iPad 1 – You can’t Jailbreak iPad 2 iOS 4.3.2 Untethered because that uses a different exploit which hasn’t been released yet!

Steps to Jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 Untethered:

1. Download redsn0w 0.9.6 rc14 for Windows or Mac computer. Make sure you update to iOS 4.3.2 if you haven’t already!

2. Download iOS 4.3.2 IPSW software for your device.

3. Open redsn0w (you may have to open it in XP Compatibility mode — to do that, right-click redsn0w -> Properties -> Compatibility Tab and select Windows XP and click OK), and follow the on screen instructions. Once it’s done you will be jailbroken on iOS 4.3.2 untethered!

Having problems updating to iOS 4.3.2? If you can’t update to iOS 4.3.2 it may be because you have gs.apple.com in your HOSTS file, so remove gs.apple.com and you should be able to update your device to iOS 4.3.2. Here are the steps on how to do this:

1. Right-click and Run Notepad as administrator

2. File -> Open, and Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and open the HOSTS file

3. Erase the line that says gs.apple.com

4. Go to File -> Save As- > and for file name make sure it’s HOSTS and for file type make sure you select All files and then click Save.

iTunes 10.2.2 Download Released; SAFE for Jailbreak

Today Apple released the iTunes 10.2.2 software download for Windows and Mac which fixes a lot of bugs including:

Addresses an issue where iTunes becomes unresponsive when an iPad is syncing.
Fixes issue which causes delay in syncing photos with iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Fixes iTunes store video previews problem which caused certain videos to be skipped while playing.
Has better stability and performance

If you are a jailbreaker, it is safe to update to iTunes 10.2.2. If you want to jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 untethered then you must wait for i0n1c to update his exploit to work with iOS 4.3.2.

To download iTunes 10.2.2, for Windows/Mac go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download or you can update through iTunes.

iOS 4.3.2 Untethered Jailbreak Possible – iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod touch 4G, and iPod touch 3G

Apple released iOS 4.3.2 download just yesterday, and you can currently jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 TETHERED only (which means you need to rejailbreak each time you reboot, so it’s not worth it). Thankfully, Stefan Esser aka i0n1c, the guy who developed the iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak has confirmed that an untethered jailbreak is possible on iOS 4.3.2. Apple has not patched i0n1c’s untethered exploit that he used in iOS 4.3.1.

If you want to jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 untethered, you will need to wait a while. i0n1c says that he will begin working on the untethered exploit on Sunday and it will take some time for it to be created. With an untethered jailbreak iOS users only need to jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 once without the need of having to reboot it every time.

For you geeks out there, i0n1c couldn’t use the untethered binaries from iOS 4.3.1 because he has to create new untethered binaries with new dyld/kernel offsets. The reason i0n1c could not create the untethered binaries to jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 right now is because he is travelling and will be in planes. The iPhone Dev Team cannot create the untethered binaries because i0n1c has kept the source code to himself only.

iPhone 4 4.3.1 – GSM Only, so CDMA Verizon iPhone 4′s are not supported!
iPhone 3GS 4.3.1
iPod touch 4G 4.3.1
iPod touch 3G 4.3.1
iPad 1G 4.3.1 – iPad 2 is not supported!

Steve Jobs and Apple to announce Jailbreak and Unlock Support in iOS 5 at WWDC 2011

People who are begging for jailbreaks and unlocks, crying, whining, and complaining, and constantly harassing the Jailbreak dev teams can finally stop doing that now! I have some good news. Read on below.

“We have given up, and will now be announcing support for jailbreak and unlock in iOS 5″ said Steve Jobs in Apple’s Cupertino campus in California.”We offered Geohot $1 billion to stop creating jailbreaks, and he accepted our offer. Unfortunately folks in iPhone Dev Team, and Chronic Dev Team are too smart and always win the cat and mouse game and we offered $1 billion to them also but they did not accept it. It’s just not worth it to keep patching jailbreaks and unlocks in every new iOS update as new hackers will always keep popping up and making new jailbreaks and unlocks, so we have decided to support jailbreaking and unlocking in our iOS 5 software. We’ve also wasted a lot of time and money patching jailbreaks and unlock and issuing updates, but now we will focus on improving iOS and our hardware instead. We will announce more on that in WWDC 2011 on June 6, 2011. You will be able to enable Cydia and Rock right from your Settings and won’t need to jailbreak or unlock with every update. Sorry for being such a pain in the ass for you jailbreakers and unlockers. Oh, and this changes everything again!,” said Steve Jobs

Untethered iOS 4.3.1 iPod touch 4G Jailbreak Demo Video

iPhone hacker, i0n1c has posted a new YouTube video demonstrating his untethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak exploit. i0n1c used his exploit on an iPod touch 4G running on iOS 4.3.1 software. Rather than releasing a jailbreak tool download, i0n1c plans on releasing his untethered exploit. The exploit could possibly be released in the form of a Cydia package if it’s possible.

In the past i0n1c gave an ETA for his untethered exploit release, which was supposed to be by the end of last week. Due to a lot of work in his real job, i0n1c was unable to release his iOS untethered exploit to the public on time.

I know this will disappoint a lot of you, but if you want to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 untethered you will need to wait some more. i0n1c is not giving any ETA this time around because people insulted him last time and a lot of people kept begging for an instant release. iOS 4.3 Untethered Jailbreak To Be Released Sometime this Week?

The iOS 4.3 software update was released by Apple on March 9, and many users are still waiting for a 4.3 jailbreak. An iPhone hacker named Stefan Esser (also known as i0n1c) found an exploit in iOS 4.3 that allows for an untethered jailbreak and posted a YouTube video of it which you can watch below. Stefan Esser originally mentioned that he estimates that he will release an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3 before the end of next weekend which is March 27 but now an updated description in his video says that “I am pretty sure that the untether will be released within the next 50 years. I will continue working on it once I finished some work projects with a nearing deadline”. We’ll just have to wait until the end of this week and see whether or not an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3 is out. Don’t be surprised if it is delayed though as it is hard to give any ETA’s when it comes to jailbreaks and anything could come up.

iPad 2 iOS 4.3 Jailbreak Accomplished!

The iPad 2 was just released some days ago, but it has already been jailbroken by comex, the iPhone hacker who developed the JailbreakMe 2.0 jailbreak software that worked right from the Safari browser. Comex is a member of the iPhone Dev Team.

The photo on the right is a white iPad 2 hardware running on jailbreak iOS 4.3 software with Cydia on the screen. The actual jailbreak has not been released yet, and there’s no ETA either but I’ll make another post once it’s released. For updates, fan us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.
