iTunes Connect is down

iTunes Connect down

Developers use iTunes Connect to add, view, or manage applications in the iTunes Store, check sales/trend reports, financial reports, or manage users. For the past 3 days, iTunes Connect has been down for many people. The iTunes Connect team at Apple are aware of this problem, and they’re working on fixing it.

iTunes Connect error message

I tried submitting an application right now, but my connection was reset, when I went back I got an error message saying “You backtracked so far“.  Apple should at least put up a status page notifying Developers that iTunes Connect is down. Many developers have been trying to submit applications, or even updates to applications but have been unable to do so because of iTunes Connect being down.

Once iTunes Connect is back up, the iTunes Connect team will have a lot of app submissions pouring in! Apple hasn’t even provided an ETA for when this problem will be fixed. I hope it’s soon, many developers are not happy about this!

Update: After writing this post, it appears that iTunes Connect is back up! I was successfully able to submit an application.

iPhone OS 3.1 and iTunes 9.0 update lets you arrange home screen

iTunes 9: iPhone OS 3.1 screen

One of the most notable features of the new iPhone OS 3.1 and iTunes 9.0 update is the home screen feature. This is a very powerful feature, and I’m sure many iPhone and iPod Touch users will find it very convenient. I’m impressed with how easy Apple has made it for us.

In this post I’ll show you how you can rearrange applications on iPhone OS 3.1 using iTunes 9.

Note: Make sure you install the iPhone 3.1 update and iTunes 9.

How to Organize applications on your iPhone or iPod Touch home screen using iTunes 9.0

1. Connect your device to your computer and launch the iTunes 9.0 application.

iTunes 9: Applications Tab

2. Click the Applications tab.

iTunes 9: Sync Applications

3. Click and checkmark the Sync Applications box. If you don’t want any application synced to your device simply uncheck it from the list and it won’t be added. iTunes 9.0 also gives you the option of sorting the applications by category, name, or date and lets you search as well.

4. On the right of the Sync Applications box you’ll see your iPhone or iPod Touche’s homescreen. Rearrange the icons the way you want it. You can drag icons up and down, left or right, or even drag them to another home screen. The square boxes on the far right well show you the different home screen pages that you can add/rearrange icons to. Just click on “1″ if you want an app on the first home screen, “2″ if you want it on the second”, and so on. It’s that easy!

iTunes 9: Apply Sync iPhone Applications button

5. Once you’ve rearranged the icons the way you want them, click on the Sync button on the bottom right corner.

6. iTunes will now start syncing the applications the way you arranged them on iTuness to your iPhone or iPod Touch. A Sync in Progress message will appear on your device. Once iTunes is done syncing, your applications will appear on your device!

I really like this feature about iPhone 3.1. Thank you for finally listening to us and bringing us this feature to iTunes 9 Apple!

iTunes: Trojan horse Small.BOG virus

Many Windows users using iTunes and AVG, one of the most popular anti-virus software were alerted of a Trojan horse Small.BOG virus today. There is a huge discussion thread on it in the Apple discussion forums.

Fortunately, you have nothing to worry about. There is no virus in iTunes. AVG has released a definitions update that should take care of this. Update your definitions through AVG and you won’t get this message anymore. Do not try to quarantine the files, this will break your iTunes 8.2.1 install and you will need to reinstall it.

Update: If you are getting the itunesminiplayer.dll failed to register Error then you need to reinstall iTunes!

iTunes 8.2 Released: Jailbreakers don’t update yet

In preparation for the iPhone OS 3.0 software update Apple has released iTunes 8.2 today. iTunes 8.2 will be compatible with iPhone and iPod Touches running on iPhone OS 3.0 firmware and also has improved security and bug fixes. If you are using a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch don’t update just yet. Read Musclenerd’s tweet below to find out why:

Today’s iTunes 8.2 update changes the way your computer talks to the device. This affects things the current jailbreaking tools when they try to identify what’s connected. Also, ssh over usb breaks due to same reasons. Fixes are in the works but for now avoid 8.2.

Do not worry about loosing your jailbreak, no matter what the current iPod Touches and iPhones will always be jailbreakable.

Once you have uninstalled iTunes 8.2 you can download & reinstall  iTunes 8.1 for Mac or iTunes 8.1 for Windows. Knowing the iPhone Dev Team the updated jailbreaking tools will be released very soon. For now don’t install iTunes 8.2 and stay tuned for more updates!
