iPhone OS 3.0 causes overheating problems?

Recently a discolored overheated iPhone 3GS was discovered and blogged about on blogs like Gizmodo, Engadget, and PCWorld. I’m not 100% sure, but I do think that the overheating problem is being caused by the iPhone OS 3.0 software update and it isn’t affecting the iPhone 3GS only, it’s affecting other iPhone and iPod Touch devices as well. After updating my iPod Touch to 3.0 I did notice that it got warmer whenever I plugged it in to charge it or played a game. I just did a quick search on Twitter, and it looks like I’m not the only one who has experienced this. I expect Apple to fix this in their next iPhone 3.0.1 or iPhone 3.1 update (which will hopefully be soon!). How has your iPhone OS 3.0 upgrade experience been so far? iTunes 8.2 Released: Jailbreakers don’t update yet

In preparation for the iPhone OS 3.0 software update Apple has released iTunes 8.2 today. iTunes 8.2 will be compatible with iPhone and iPod Touches running on iPhone OS 3.0 firmware and also has improved security and bug fixes. If you are using a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch don’t update just yet. Read Musclenerd’s tweet below to find out why:

Today’s iTunes 8.2 update changes the way your computer talks to the device. This affects things the current jailbreaking tools when they try to identify what’s connected. Also, ssh over usb breaks due to same reasons. Fixes are in the works but for now avoid 8.2.

Do not worry about loosing your jailbreak, no matter what the current iPod Touches and iPhones will always be jailbreakable.

Once you have uninstalled iTunes 8.2 you can download & reinstall iTunes 8.1 for Mac or iTunes 8.1 for Windows. Knowing the iPhone Dev Team the updated jailbreaking tools will be released very soon. For now don’t install iTunes 8.2 and stay tuned for more updates!

Jailbreak iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 5

iPhone OS 3.0 beta 5 software build 7a312G was released to developers only a week after the release of the 4th beta. Usually Apple releases beta firmware in 2 weeks, but this time they released the beta very early. Could this mean we are getting closer to the final release of iPhone OS 3.0? The iPhone Dev Team believes that we are half way there and they state that the iPhone OS 3.0 can always be jailbroken and Apple can only change that by changing their hardware. Ever since iPhone OS 3.0 beta 1 was released, there has always been a jailbreak released for each and every update by santtiaga from iPhoneApps.ru. One thing many jailbreakers may have missed during the beta jailbreaks is that Cydia never worked. Saurik, the creator of Cydia has been working hard and he has finally released the Cydia bundle for iPhone OS 3.0. This means you can finally use Cydia on iPhone OS 3.0, and third-party applications will continue to be sold once iPhone OS 3.0 comes out.

WARNING: iPhone 3G users, do you use yellowsn0w? If you use yellowsn0w or if you plan to use it in the future you should NOT use this jailbreak. iPhone OS 3.0 is still in beta and a lot of jailbroken apps need to be updated to support it. Don’t be surprised if a lot of your favorite apps don’t work, you will have to wait until the final iPhone OS 3.0 release to get your favorite apps. Jailbreak iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 4 [Official Unofficial Release]!

On Tuesday, April 28 iPhone OS 3.0 beta 4 build 7A300g was released to developers enrolled in the iPhone Developer program. This release requires developers to download and install a prerelease version of iTunes 8.2. If you are a developer and you want to jailbreak your iPhone, iPhone 3G, or iPod Touch 1G you can now by downloading the jailbreak.

Note: iPhone 3G users, if you want to keep your yellowsn0w unlock then don’t use this. This is BETA firmware, you will definitely have problems and a lot of jailbroken app will not work with it yet. No support will be provided for this as this is a beta release. You can continue discussion of this in the iPhone OS 3.0 forum.
