Google has over 30,000 Android Apps in Android Market

Google recently told MobileCrunch that they have a total of 30,000 Android applications available in the Android Market. This is a good number, but it is still 5 times less than the number of apps currently available in Apple’s App Store.

Apple announced in a recent press release that the App Store has over 150,000 apps, most of which will also work with their upcoming iPad device. Apple will also be creating a separate App Store for just books which will be available to iPad users on April 3.

Will Google’s Android Market ever be able to catch up to Apple’s App Store? I don’t see this happening any time soon because Apple has made a very good easy to use SDK for developers, and the iPhone OS is still more popular than Google’s Android operating system.

Apple Tablet is trending on Twitter and Google

Tomorrow is the day Apple is expected to be announcing a new tablet product which many people refer to as the Apple Tablet, iSlate, iPad, Mac Tablet, or iGuide. Of course, these are all rumors and Apple has not even said a word about them launching any Apple tablet. Any rumors about Apple spread really fast, and the tablet rumor is no exception.

The keyword “Apple Tablet” is trending on both Google and Twitter as of right now. The Apple Tablet is the most hyped Apple product based on rumors. I haven’t got my hopes for for an Apple tablet because I don’t need one when I already have a powerful laptop, but I hope that Apple will instead announce a new Verizon iPhone 4G tomorrow.

Nexus One phone being advertised on Google

The Nexus One phone that Google released yesterday is being advertised on the main homepage of http://www.google.com. If you go to Google you will notice the above screenshot with an icon for the Nexus One phone and the “Experience Nexus One, the new Android phone from Google” ad. This is a pretty smart move by Google as they normally have no ads on the homepage and this will catch the attention of a lot of people.

The Nexus One is currently available on T-Mobile. A Verizon Wireless Nexus One phone will be available to purchase in Spring 2010. See my Everything about Nexus One post for more information on the Nexus One.

Giant Nexus One tablet phone for $60,000

Google already announced their Nexus One phone on http://www.google.com/phone, but did you know you can get a giant Nexus One tablet phone for $60,000? Yes, it’s true watch the video at this link to see the giant Nexus One tablet phone in action. Pictured above is Matt Cutts from Google wishing he could take this Nexus One tablet home.

The giant Nexus One tablet in this video is a competitor to the upcoming iSlate by Apple (apparently Google thinks the iSlate is a tablet, when it’s actually an eBook reader).

Nexus One vs Droid

Now that the Nexus One Google phone has been released, the Droid has a new competitor. The Nexus One and Droid both use Google’s operating system and both are available on Verizon. Unlike the Nexus One, the Droid phone is not unlocked.

Here are the major differences between the Nexus One and Droid:

Droid will support flash, but we’re not sure if Nexus One will
Nexus One is unlocked and can be used with other carriers
Droid has a physical keyboard, while Nexus One only has a virtual keyboard
Nexus One is thinner
Nexus One has the Android 2.1 operating system which has a lot of new features (maybe Droid will get this update as well)

Everything about Google Nexus One ‘Superphone’

Today Google launched their Nexus One “Superphone”. The Nexus One runs on Google’s Android Mobile Technology Platform 2.1 (Eclair) which has new features like live wallpapers, and voice enabled for every text field.

The Nexus One will be available on only two carriers in the US: T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless. As of right now it’s only available on T-Mobile, but it will be available on Verizon in Spring. T-Mobile users can get the Nexus One for $179 and a 2-year contract.

The Nexus One phone will also be available to those in the UK through Vodafone, but no date has been announced. Vodafone won’t be an exclusive carrier, and other carriers in the UK may start offering the Nexus One on their network too. Once Vodafone gets the Nexus One you will only be able to order it through Google’s website.

Nexus One Verizon Wireless phone coming soon

Google has just updated their page on http://www.google.com/phone. They have revealed that the Nexus One is coming to Verizon Wireless in Spring 2010. As a Droid owner I can say that I’m really happy with these news. The Nexus One is a great phone, and I’ll definitely be switching to it once it’s available on Verizon Wireless.

Android users: Are you going to be getting the Nexus One? I think it’s the best Android phone out there right now. I’d prefer that over the Droid because the Droid has an extra physical keyboard which I rarely use and because this phone is thinner.

Google has just announced the specs of the Nexus One Google phone in their press event. Read on below for detailed specs of Nexus One.

Nexus One Specs

Display: 3.7″ AMOLED Display
Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 1 GHz
Trackball: Multi-color notification LED
Sensors: Light Proximity
Camera: 5 Megapixels with LED Flash

Isaac Newton and falling Apple on Google search USA

Google is celebrating the birthday of Sir Isaac Newton by putting a falling Apple on their logo today. See my Isaac Newton post I posted previously for more information. The logo you see on the Google homepage is also known as a Google Doodle, and Google makes it whenever they want to celebrate a special day. Hovering over the Google logo will show the text “Birthday of Sir Isaac Newton”.

In my previous post the logo only appeared on Google.co.uk, and some other international Google sites but now it’s on Google.com in the US as well. Google is also showing real-time results for people talking about Isaac Newton in their search results.
