‘The Flintstones’ Turn 50: Google Doodle Celebrates Anniversary

I was amazed to see The Flintstones on the logo on Google.com today. It is the 50th Anniversary of The Flintstones, and to celebrate Google has created a Google Doodle of The Flintstones. A Google Doodle, for those who don’t know what it is, is whenever Google changes the logo on their homepage to celebrate a special event. Clicking the Google logo reveals search results for “The Flintstones”.

As a kid, I used to watch The Flintstones and really enjoyed that cartoon. It’s good to see Google celebrate the 50th birthday of The Flintstones and re-design their logo. You can see a Wikipedia entry of The Flintstones here, if you’ve never heard of this cartoon.

Some interesting facts about The Flintstones include that it was originally known as The Flagstones, and then it was known as The Gladstones, and then finally it got it’s name The Flintstones. The Flintstones was the ninth best Top 100 Animated TV Shows on IGN (January 2009). Read more about this at telegraph.co.uk.

Google Doodle logo for Today, September 8 (9/8/10)

If you go to the main page of Google.com today, you’ll see that the Google Doodle logo for today, September 8 (9/8/10) is a colorless Google logo. As you start typing in the search box you will notice a cursor blinking and each letter in the Google logo will start coloring itself.

Google doesn’t just change it’s logo for no reason at all. There is always a meaning behind the logo. I’m not sure what the reason is behind this logo, as Google can be mysterious at times. A tweet from the official Google Twitter account says: “Our doodle is dressing up in its brightest colors for something exciting coming very soon…”. Can you guess what that is?

Google Homepage Has The Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz has reached it’s 70th anniversary. To celebrate, Google has designed a special logo on their homepage and linked to search results for “The Wizard of Oz”. Google often creates these types of logos to celebrate special holidays or events, and it’s always interesting to see what they come up with.

The Wizard of Oz was my favorite show. It is great to see Google creating a logo and placing it on the homepage. If you look closely, you will see “Google” written in the above logo.

Remove Google Background, Top Google Trend

Remove Google Background, that’s the top trend on Google today. Many people went to www.google.com today, and noticed a design on the background. This is a new feature that Google recently launched to show users that they can customize the homepage. It looks like a lot of people aren’t happy with it because “remove google background” is the second most hottest search term on Google right now.

If you don’t like the Google background, you can easily remove it by clicking “Remove background image” on the bottom left corner. according to a post on the Super Geeky News blog. I didn’t find any such setting on my Google homepage, so I think Google is forcing it’s users to stick with it’s Google background for now so they can get the word out there about this new feature.

Verizon iPhone in 2012, HTC Evo 4G on Sprint, and Android beating iPhone

Last week a lot happened in the world of mobile phones. First, we learned that 2012 is the year that we could potentially see a Verizon iPhone. AT&T and Apple signed their exclusivity contract for 5 years, so Apple can’t offer the iPhone on any other carrier until 2012. If you were expecting there to be a Verizon iPhone launch this year, you’ll find yourself pretty disappointed.

The HTC Evo 4G phone is coming to Sprint this summer, most likely in June. Sprint held a contest where 10 lucky winners will be getting their HTC Evo 4G before launch date. The HTC Evo 4G has some great specs which include a 8.0 mega-pixel camera on the back and a 1.3 mega-pixel front facing camera.

We also learned through a research done by NPD, that Google’s Android operating system outsold Apple’s iPhone operating system in the first quarter of 2010. To be fair though, Google has been offering multiple Android phones on all the major carriers while Apple has been just restricting their iPhone to a single carrier, AT&T.

HTC Droid Eris getting Android 2.1 update

The HTC Droid Eris is getting the Android 2.1 software update, as confirmed on the Verizon website. No release date has been announced, but various reports hint at it being released by the end of May.

HTC Droid Eris runs Google’s Android Cupcake operating system, has a 528MHz Qualcomm processor, 288 MB RAM, 3.2 inch touch screen, and a 5.0 mega-pixel camera w/Auto Focus.

Verizon launches HTC Droid Incredible, and Sprint getting HTC Evo 4G

The smartphones competition is getting serious, with a new Android phone launching on different carriers monthly. This week, Verizon launched it’s HTC Droid Incredible phone and in summer 2010 the HTC Evo 4G is launching on Sprint. The HTC Droid Incredible got nice reviews from many tech experts, and most agree that it’s the best Android phone to date.

The HTC Droid Incredible phone sold out quickly on Verizon’s official website, and now the site says that customers who order online can expect to get their phone by May 4. If you didn’t order one yet, you can get it for a cheaper price and save around $50 by ordering from Amazon. The HTC Droid Incredible runs on Google’s Android operating system. With so many different Android phones already in the market, Google is still far away from competing with Apple’s iPhone but you have to give them credit for growing so fast.

The new HTC Evo 4G Android phone is going to be released by HTC and Sprint in the summer, and by the looks of the specs it’s going to beat the HTC Droid Incredible. It’s also worth nothing that most of the good Android phones, including the Nexus One are built by HTC.

Android 2.2 allows you to auto update Android apps

Google’s next Android operating system version is Android 2.2 (Froyo). The Android 2.2 software update will give users the option to auto update all their downloaded Android apps, so they don’t have to update each app manually. If you have a ton of apps, you know it can be frustrating and time consuming to manually update each one individually. This new feature is very convenient for Android users because it saves them a lot of time.

Each Android app you download will give you the option of automatic updating so if you don’t want an app to auto update for whatever reason, you have that option.

Hubble Telescope: 20th anniversary of Hubble Telescope launch by Nasa on Google

Today is the 20th anniversary of the Hubble Telescope launch by Nasa. To celebrate, Google has made a really cool logo on their main homepage. Clicking on the logo shows results for “Hubble Telescope”. Google likes to change their logo to celebrate special events, and today is a special day so Google created a logo called a “Google Doodle”.

Here is a fun fact about the Hubble Telescope: It was named after Edwin Hubble who discovered the expansion of the universe and formulated what is now known as Hubble’s Law.
