‘Professional’ thieves steal $26,000 of MacBooks from NJ Best Buy

On Wednesday morning an unknown number of thieves managed to break in to a Best Buy in South Brunswick, New Jersey and steal 20 notebooks valued at $26,000. For the record, these were all MacBooks so no Windows computers were stolen (phew!). These thieves were clever because they were able to avoid cameras, motion sensors, and alarms.

Police believe the thieves broke in to the Best Buy by cutting a hole through the roof using a saw, and slicing a 3-foot wide square in the metal roof. Detective James Ryan said that there was a “high level of sophistication” involved in this robbery since the thieves didn’t set off any alarms or motion detectors, and were also able to avoid cameras. John Harris, a security expert said “I would say they were a professional crew”, and “At least I’ve never dealt with anything like this. From time to time, people break in, but not usually through the roof.” Police are still investigating, and they think that at least 2 or 3 people were involved in this roberry and they may have hit other locations before as well. Best Buy Black Friday Eid Al Adha ad causes disappointment to many

In Best Buy’s Black Friday ad, they included a Happy Eid al-Adha message to recognize the holiday that Muslims around the world will be celebrating this week. For Muslims, Eid is like Christmas and this year it happens to be in the same week as Black Friday and Thanksgiving. Surprisingly, it looks like this ad has caused disappointment among many Best Buy customers.

A topic on the Best Buy forums is full of 10 pages where customers are complaining about Best Buy wishing Muslims a happy Eid. As I was reading the topic I noticed that many people were saying that they will no longer shop at Best Buy, some were saying that Best Buy should have put something about Christmas, and some said that they were shocked. Due to the complaints by a lot of people, a Best Buy supervisor, Elizabeth had to post the following response:

Thanks for sharing your point of view regarding our recent ad, which included a wish for a “Happy Eid al-Adha”.

Best Buy’s customers and employees around the world represent a variety of faiths and denominations. We respect that diversity and choose to greet our customers and employees in ways that reflect their traditions.

We do use the word “holiday” in some of our advertising because it is meant to be inclusive to everyone. However, just as we have in the past, we will also reference specific holidays such as Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa in our weekly ads, store signage and other advertising vehicles.

We encourage our employees to interact with customers naturally and feel free to wish them a Merry Christmas if they are celebrating that holiday. Thanks again for your feedback.

I really don’t see anything wrong with Best Buy adding a “Happy Eid Al-Adha” text in their ad. It just proves that Best Buy appreciates diversity. It is unfortunate that people are taking other meanings from this ad. What are your thoughts on this? New iPod Touch Third Generation case appears on Best Buy

Although the new iPod Touch third generation has not been officially announced by Apple yet, Best Buy has already added the Belkin iPod Touch Third generation case on their website. Oops, I’m sure Steve Jobs must not be happy with them right now!

In case the item gets removed from Best Buy’s website I’ve added a screenshot above. The new iPod Touch 3rd Generation will be announced by Apple tomorrow at their September 9 event in Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Sprint’s HTC Hero will be available for $179 at Best Buy

Today Sprint announced their Sprint HTC Hero which will be released on October 11. Best Buy also announced in a press release that they will have the HTC Hero (Sprint) available on October 11. Customers will be able to buy the HTC Hero for only $179.99 with a 2-year activation, and without the need to file any mail-in rebates.

If you plan on buying the HTC Hero, get it from Best Buy! Sprint will require you to fill in a mail-in rebate, while Best Buy stores will not.

Best Buy $9.99 Samsung LN52a650 HD TV

Did you notice the Best Buy $9.99 TV? Apparently Best Buy is listing a Samsung LN52a650 52″ HD TV for $9.99 on their online website.

Update: This was indeed an error, and Best Buy has now fixed the price. They will be refunding orders with this price. Here’s what Best Buy Rep, Jacob said in a tweet:

We’re not sure if the $9.99 is a typo or not, but for $9.99 the LN52a650 HD TV does look like a good deal at first glance. Add this item to your cart and see what happens.

Yes, that’s right. There’s a $70 delivery charge! You have to pay at least $80 for this deal. $80 for a 52″ HD TV sounds like a good deal to me. If you want one, get it now! It looks like it’ll sell out fast.

Best Buy retail stores are now selling the Palm Pre for $99 with a 2-year contract. With less than 2 months since it’s launch, the Palm Pre already has a $100 price drop. We’re not sure if this is a permanent price tag for the Palm Pre or a temporary one. If you want to get a Palm Pre, get it NOW from Best Buy!

Although the pricing on the Best Buy website still advertises the Palm Pre as $199.99 with a 2-year contract, you may want to call your local Best Buy store and check with them to see their price. I just called two local Best Buy stores and only one confirmed that I can buy the Palm Pre for $99.
