I have only managed to jailbreak my 2G with blackra1n on the lastest firmware 3.1.2, but the unlock was very uneventful as I have tried bootneuter to unlock but it would give me warnings of "different SIM inserted". You could however try Bootneuter, there are people who have jailbroken and unlocked 2G on 3.1.2 firmware, I may have to re-do my unlocking all over just to make sure.
