Revised for firmware 3.1.2


This works on ANY Windows version eg. XP SP3, Vista 32 and 64bit (Basic/Home/Business/Ultimate) and 7 32 and 64 (Starter/Home/Professional/Ultimate)

My system
Pentium M 715 @ 1.5GHz
1024MB DDR2 4200
Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

What you will need
1. iTunes 9.0.2
2. Firmware 3.1.2
3. blackra1n RC3 (Click Here to Download)
4. Windows XP SP3/Vista 32 or 64/7 32 or 64

1. Before you start your jailbreaking venture, make sure you have an updated version of iTunes. The latest version is 9.0.2, go here to download.

2. Once you have iTunes upgraded or installed (9.0.2) go ahead and sync your iPhone and do a backup to save all your contacts, messages and other data. This however will not save any music or videos, you will need to sync those manually after the upgrade/jailbreak.
note: when you first plug your phone, iTunes will ask you if you want to update, click cancel for now.

3. Use the shift+restore method to select your firmware and restore the phone.

4. After the restore is complete, CANCEL the "setting up as new iphone" step, and CLOSE iTunes.

5. Open up blackra1n, and click "make it ra1n", your iPhone will automatically boot into DFU mode and the jailbreak should take at least 30-60. It is that simple

6. After the jailbreak is complete, you will NOT see Cydia anywhere on the phone, you will need to download it through the blackra1n app.
For 3G users you will get 3 options; Cydia, Icy/Rock, blacksn0w
For 2G and iPod users you only get two options either Cydia or ICY/Rock
Install ONE at a time and reboot/restart after install.
blacksn0w does not require a reboot, but you are welcomed to do so.




ATTENTION 2G users, to unlock your phone, go to Cydia and search for BOOTNEUTER, there is only one bootneuter in cydia, and that is the one you will need to download and install.
After bootneuter is installed, RESTART the phone. When the phone is done restarting, run boot neuter and use the following settings below.



After that is all set, tap the "flash" button on the upper right corner. Be PATIENT and do not interrupt the flashing otherwise you will bricked you phone and have to restore all over.

3G Users, just run the blackra1n app again and install blacksn0w to unlock your phone, thats it.

7.Now you can run iTunes and restore your phone from backup.

OK, this might be a dumb question but......

First of all, thank you so much for posting this guide! Things like this make it so much easier on us newbies!! I don't see 3GS listed above. Does this new Blackra1n work on 3GS? I have a 3G but my girlfriend has a 3GS. I used Blackra1n to jailbreak it, but it keeps locking up on her.

I'm very sure that blackra1n will work for the 3GS as well, do you have the latest blackra1n? Restore the phone and try again, but don't restore from backup yet and run blackra1n.

I have just installed blackra1n and run blacksn0w on a second hand Iphone 3G.
I cannot connect to a mobile phone service and the message "waiting for activation" apears after a reboot?

Any help much apreciated and thanks in advance.

blackra1n should've hacktivated your phone, restore the phone again and re-jailbreak.

i have installed the iTunes 9.0.2 but it does not work!When i open it it says<<iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.>>What can I do to make Itunes work?please reply
