ok i have seen too many people spamming the forum with the same questions over and over again so i will try my best to give the most info

admin please sticky this

2g unlock step.

first of all you dont need to worry about upgrading to 2.2.1
follow the steps

1) restore your phone with itunes and update the firmware to 2.2.1
2) run quickpwn connect it with your iphone
3) once quickpqn detects that your phone is connected press next
4) your phones picture should display on the screen with a box that has the ispw file
if there is no box displaying you will manually have to choose the firmware
5) after clicking next check the features that you want the iphone to have example unloked , boot logo, cydia
6) follow the directions the program will tell you and your good to go

if your phone is unlocked and you cant make any calls besides the emergency screen make sure you restore the phone with itunes and try the process over again

3g unlock steps

if you want the phone to be unlocked and you already have firmware 2.2.1 your too late the phone can not be unlocked anymore

if you have any other firmware thats before 2.2.1 then here are the steps on how to do this

first download
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....7_Restore.ipsw

that is the 2.2 restore firmware save that to your desktop

open itunes and connect your 3g phone..itunes will ask you if you want to update click "no" and cancel all the update messages out once done with that then on the left choose the iphone option which will open all the iphone category
from that click on "summary" and then locate the restore button. BEFORE clicking the restore button hold down SHIFT ( for windows ) or OPTIONS( for mac) and then click restore which will make a box pop up asking you for file location
direct that box to the 2.2 file you downloaded earlier and then update it

this process takes about 15 to 20 minutes make be patient

once this is done close itunes and open quickpwn ( latest version ) and connect your phone.
click next until it asks you for your ispw file click browse and then direct that box to the file that you downloaded earlier and go on next..choose what you want your iphone to do , NOTICE IT WONT HAVE THE "UNLOCK" option because in order to unlock it we will need to download yellowsnow

once you have successfully jailbroken your iphone 3g go to cydia and update all the necessary packages from cydia once you update cydia completely yellowsnow should already be downloaded a way to check this would be open cydia go to manage then go to source and the you should see apt9.yellowsn0w if you dont see that then you will need to download yellowsn0w but if you have updated cydia then it should alredy be downloaded

once done with that close cydia and put your sim card in..after puttin it in give it 20 seconds if it doesnt find service reboot then phone and you try it over again if it doesnt find service remove sim and put it in again and wait for 30 seconds more..at this point your sim should be detected

I have edited your post for the following reasons.

1. The title i have added using windows as this is what you are using and Mac quick own is slightly different.

2 Highlighted your FAQ's to make them easier to read

Great Post - one small mistake, Posted 02-19-2009, 11:35 AM #3 (permalink)
I think you made one mistake here, I hope I'm right..

After I've flashed my iphone with the official 2.2 release that you linked, I get the emergency call screen. I plugged it in, closed iTunes, and now your next step says to open quickpwn. But that STILL says i have the incorrect firmware.

I think you meant to open pwnagetool?

@Akbar

Its a simple step which ive already tried doing as well..

1st problem: it wont restore my iphone using itunes(ive also tried using SHIFT+RESTORE using the 1.0.2 IPSW firmware[Also tried downloading it from other sites]) Its giving me a unknown error(4) after the restore. if i perform restore & Update from itunes. it will give the itunes logo with a progress bar but it will be stuck on the end where the bar is already fully loaded.

2nd Problem: Using Quickpwn,Ziphone,Ibrickr softwares is not working as well. ive already posted the quickpwn error above.

3rd Problem: what does DFU look like because mine is stuck on the Yellow traingle "!" Connect to itunes" recovery mode.

Can anyone Help besides the simple steps that we can find on the net?

possible amendment to your guide, Posted 02-20-2009, 12:46 PM #10 (permalink)
now I dont know if this would apply to both 1G and 3G iPhones but one step in the process of the 1st gen would be that after you restore and iTunes pops up with a message to insert a sim card, not to and just close iTunes and then insert the desired sim.
The pwn it.
thats how it worked for me and if i knew not to let iTunes know what sim i was using at first it would've been done in about 2 1/2 hours less time than it originally took me.
and im sure it would help several others too.

if you do add this info, i dont feel any need of credit to the guide, but it would be appreciated.
