I have tried to upgrade to 2.2.1 but when I download the software and shift restore on Itunes nothing happens because the file is looking a .ipsw and there isnt one in the 1st gen download..........Please help. What am I doing wrong?

are you jailbreaking a 2.2.1?
cause you know the itouch already has to have 2.2.1 updated before you can use the custom ispw

You will have to download the firmware if you're doing the shift+restore method. Otherwise just click restore to update to the lastest firmware.

I have downloaded the iPod1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.zip file. I open the zip file and I cannot find a *.ipsw file. When i try and extract the file it stop after the first file is extracted with message " There is already a file with the same name you specified. Specify a different name. .fseventsd Try again or skip.

What I am try to do is upgrade my firmware from 1.1.5 to 2.2.1.
I have search the fourms for 2 hour but all I can find is info on jailbreaking.
I need to have 2.2.1 before I can break it.

Plz help I am new to Itouch and jailbreaking.

It shouldn't be in zip format, try renaming the .zip to .ipsw.

what i did was go to 2.0 then i updated to the latest.
