Help Please, Posted 09-14-2009, 12:03 PM #1 (permalink)
Here is my problem...

My iphone headphone socket is not working properly, so ive had to go to my local apple store and get an appointment with the "genius" bar people, problem im jailbroken and they wont look at my phone. Currently running 3.0.1 dont want to restore as it will upgrade my phone to 3.1 and i will lose the ability to jailbreak.. where will i get an official 3.0 download to restore my phone to 3.0 or is this not possible?
thanks in advance!

If you haven't downloaded the 3.1 update yet from apple, I would simple disconnect your computer from the internet and use the restore option as it will use the most recent update you have downloaded (3.0.1). Now if you have downloaded the update you can do a search for *.ipsw which will show all the firmwares on your computer. You may even have to search for hidden files if you get no results the first time. If you have multiple files returned in your search, make a note of their location or copy & paste the correct one (the current firmware you have on your iphone) to your desktop then go back to iTunes. When your at the screen for update & restore simply hold Shift and click on restore. It'll let you specify the firmware you want to restore then simply browse to where it is stored (having it on the desktop is the easiest). This will remove your jailbreak & let you have your phone fixed. Hopefully they don't give you a replacement with os 3.1 though.

If for some reason you can't find the .ipsw file on your computer anywhere, doing a quick google of iphone os 3.0.1 ipsw should give you a site where you can download it. Keep in mind there are different ones for the iphone 2g, 3g, touches, etc. so make sure you select the right one then follow the instructions above.

Good luck.

I almost forgot, I hope you do not have the iphone 3gS. Apple isn't signing/activating any new 3.0's or 3.0.1's so you are forced to update to 3.1, therefore losing your ability to unlock your iphone to other carriers...for now at least. So if your a 3gS user I have no advice for you other than try to find a way to remove the jailbreak through winscp, telnet or something similiar, google is your friend here & im sure there is a tutorial out there, i'm just too lazy to look They may even try to update your iphone for you after servicing it, so I'd let them know you heard the new update was buggy/unstable or all kinds of excuses & your not ready to update until they get them fixed.
