After upgrading both my 2G and 3G, and jail breaking and unlocking the 2G (3G's jailbroken; still waiting for 3G's ultrasn0w), I have noticed an increase on both iPhone's battery life.

Actually, the battery life on my 2G is much better than before. Haven't charged the phone for two days and with somewhat regular use, the battery life's still above 90%.

The 3G I haven't charged for three days, with no use since it isn't unlocked, and the battery life's still at 100%.

After Day 2 my battery troubles on my iPhone 2G, I have made the following findings:

a) The device interference with my car speakers has increased significantly, and it seems that the device is trying to interact with the GSM network ALL the time.

b) I have restored the device into a fresh state, but this didn't help. I tend to believe this is not a software/Cydia issue.

c) In my case, I am NOT subscribed to a data plan from my mobile operator, but I cannot view or change my GPRS settings because the iPhone applies the operator's settings behind the scene since they are one of the iPhone authorized operators.

d) I tried shutting down WiFi, Bluetooth, Vibration. nothing helps at all. The device completely drains overnight when I"m not using it at all.

e) Airplane mode seems to stop the drain :-)

I suspect that the issue is related to the iPhone insisting on attaching to the GPRS network and it seems it does not stop from trying if not successful after some time, which causes this fast drain.

I'd like to get the input of other users on this. Could the battery drain be related to attaching to the Data network?

Anyone contact Apple and ask them about this problem on 1st Gen (un-jailbroken) iPhones?

Would be interested. I haven't updated to 3.0. I'm still being patient with seeing all the issues posted here after 3.0 and JB, I'm going to wait a bit more, sorry if I don't have any balls but experience tells me better. Besides, I've got all you guys that I can live vicariously through and you guys can be my Guinea pigs. LOL

I have noticed that it DOES drain a lot more when I am trying to download something off of Cydia or Installus. I mean like 10% or more each time

Mojo, everything on your lists aligns with mine perfectly. This is insane. I'm even starting to not receive phone calls now too!

Yeah, I'm trying to downgrade, but nothing seems to work! This is getting more and more frustrating! I'm not getting the normal itunes errors, I'm getting like 1600 and 1604! *sigh* lol
