iPhone OS3.0 Beta 3 Jailbreak & Activation, Posted 04-24-2009, 07:56 PM #1 (permalink)
Ok,

So I'm currently running iPhone 3.0 Beta 3 on my main Iphone 3G. So far this is the following that you will need to get it flashed, installed, back on the network and jailbroken all in one 30 minute sitting.

Requirements:

- iPhone 3G fully charged

- Torrent Downloader (limewire, bitcomet)

- Data cord for iPhone

- iPhoneBrowser Software

- Latest iTunes installed

- iPhone 3.0 Beta 3 Firmware (7A280f)
*Found easily at Pirate Bay
just copy and paste this to PB search
iphone os 3.0 firmware beta 3 iphone 3g 7a280f

- QuickPwn 3.0 for Beta 3

And the ability to follow intructions to a "T"!

Do NOT skip steps or you will not be a happy camper and I will just say I told you so.

Again, this is for educational purposes and I am not at all liable for any stupid thing that might happen whille this is in progress. If you wish to read on, it is at your own risk soldier!

After you have downloaded all of the files then make sure you know where you saved them. The best place is your desktop, especially if you have Vista.

Note: This will only work for Windows systems at the moment and not MAC OS. Don't know if you can or cannot do this while using bootcamp on a MAC to Windows.

Note: You must be legit on your carrier, meaning if you used the iphone for T-mobile, this will not unlock it for that carrier, this will only work for the carrier that is legit with AT&T or other authorised carriers ie O2.

OK so first, you will lose or your data so back up your contacts and whatever other files you want to keep. Not my fault if you dont read this.

Open Itunes and disconnect your computer from the internet manually. (this is just a safety precaution). After that click on your Iphone on iTunes and hold shift and click restore. Select the 3.0 beta 3 firmware you just downloaded and do not back up your phone as this is a clean reinstall.

After the restore to 3.0 is complete from Iphone do not freak out when you see the emergency only calls. Background should be pink and not original black anymore. This is where we are going to start the jailbreak for the beta 3.

FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS TO A "T"

Close itunes from here and open the quickpwn app you should have already downloaded. Again choose the firmware you just flashed it with and allow it to load and detect your iphone. Click the "NEXT" button when it has detected your phone with the checkmark. The next screen is crucial

DO NOT CHECKMARK "ACTIVATE" OR YOU WILL NOT GET AT&T SERVICE AND WILL HAVE TO REDO THE WHOLE PROCESS FROM STEP ONE. You have been warned.

After this screen click next and you will need to follow instructions for setting the phone in DFU mode. Follow them precicely or you will not jailbreak properly and will have to do it again. Once it is installed it will let you know. Your phone will take a little longer to restructure all the files to jailbreak but once it is done you will come to a familiar slider screen that is not in emergency mode.

YOU STILL WONT GET SERVICE YET TILL THE NEXT SO DONT FREAK.Do NOT RECONNECT TO ITUNES YET.

Ok, now we are going to open the Iphonebrowser program and let it load. If your on Vista, you must allow admin privledges for it to detect the phone. Once it loads and you see the file system you will need to scroll down to the following.

System>Library>Core Services>

Now go to systemversion.plist and download that to your desktop. To download it right click on the file and click save as. Save it to the desktop or somewhere you will remember.

open the file on the desktop and edit it as a text file. Your computer might ask you what program do you want to use to get this file open.

CHOOSE NOTEPAD.

You will see a string of code and you will scroll all the way to the end until you see the following code line.

(string)Beta(/string)

Change that codeline word "Beta" to the word "Public"

so it should look like this...

(string)Public(/string)

After you change the code. Save the file without changing the file name and drage the file back to

System>Library>Core Services>

This will overide in a matter of seconds and then close the program and disconnect the phone.

*You can check if the file actually updating by highlighting the file in Iphone browser and scrolling down in the bottom right hand preview window to the same code line and it should reflect now as Public.

RESTART YOUR IPHONE!!!

After the phone reboots and back on the home screen. connect your pc back to the internet and connect the iphone to itunes and go to the iphone tab and it should automatically update and activate without you being on a developer program. You will then be able to configure theiphone just as you would if it where on a public release firmware and viola! you have latest Iphone 3.0 beta 3 stable Iphone.

Hope this helped.

I am having a problem, I have 3.0 beta 3 installed on my phone, and it works great. However, when I jailbreak it, and I try to use iphonebrowser, the status bar in the iphonebrowser says that my phone is not jail broken, but it goes through the entire jailbreak process, as I have done hundreds of times, and iphonebrowser is just not reading acf2, or something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In regards to your issue, I need to know certain things about your setup like, what OS, what version of iTunes. I also need to know if your device is 3G or first gen? Can you please give me as much information of your entire setup as I need all the factors to troubleshoot. Thanks!

Got it!, Posted 04-26-2009, 11:52 AM #5 (permalink)
Here's the thing, only reason I put up the jailbreak on this tutorial is because the jailbreak is needed to edit the strings to make the activation seem legit in Itunes so that it activates flawlessly without being added to a Dev account or paying some stranger 5-10 bucks to be added to theirs. If your already added to a Dev account theres really no benefit to being on a jailbreak until the Dev team come up to an official release due to the face that most 3rd party jailbroken program are unstable under the current beta build. Can you post the exact error you get from iPhone browser just to see what it's missing. If the jailbreak process completed successfully from the Beta 3 version and you did not check the activate option from it, I cannot see this outcome change unless you might need to reboot your machine for some reason. Do you at least see the basic file system on your iPhone from Iphone browser? Like music and iTunes folders? Please post any further info

Then it's not iPhone browser, Posted 04-26-2009, 01:48 PM #10 (permalink)
Something is up with your setup. Either you didn't restore iTunes and just flashed from quickpwn which won't work. Or some of the essential start up files are disabled or missing. I need the screenshots from your phones information screen showing firmware and list of all startup services from msconfig. If something is turned off related to iTunes or iPhone, this could be the problem. I will also need a screenshots of all the error codes you get from Iphone browser. If any.I need more info or I cannot help you.
