Try these steps:

I:
Try restarting iPhone. To turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

II:
Does iPhone appear frozen or stuck? Try pressing and holding the Home button for at least 6 seconds to close a frozen application. Then try restarting iPhone following the steps outlined above.

Or:

III:
To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. During this time, a red "power off" slider may appear and the screen may go black, but do not release Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears.

Or:

IV:
If iPhone is not working as expected, it may be due to some of the content synced to it. Try selectively removing certain content that may be causing unexpected behavior such as contacts, calendars, songs, photos, videos, or podcasts.

To remove content, connect iPhone via USB and use iTunes to change the sync settings. Click on iPhone in the Source list, and select each tab to change what content is synced then click apply.

2.2.1, Posted 01-28-2009, 01:01 AM #34 (permalink)
I accidentally upgraded and now cannot downgrade. but 2.2.1 seems to be more better as call quality and battery time has improved alot.

If you have firmware 2.2.1., than there is nothing for you to do than wait for the Dev Team than wait untill they make it possible to JB this new update.

If not, are you using the right tool for your firmware?

I guess you have 2.2.1. if I read your message correctly.

question, Posted 01-28-2009, 02:49 AM #36 (permalink)
Well, I got suckered into 2.2.1.. So it looks like I have to wait... great day to try jailbreaking for the first time. My phone freaked out and I had to do the upgrade to get it fixed.

Anyways, that's not really my question. When I do finally get my phone jailbroken, and I start installing new apps with cydia, what happens to those apps if I do upgrade the firmware? Do they stop working, or do they get uninstalled? Just curious.

Hi Garyf,

I really would not know.
What i do know is that mine has 2.2.1 now. (D*mned)
But i also can still see a tweak or 2 installed on my previous JB'ed phone that is still working. after I restored my iPhone for what concerned my contacts etc.
In a few days we will both know the answer I Guess.
But i am hopefull even though i really do not know why it just left just 2 of them on my phone.
