i can tell you the worst case

its this clear case made by "case-mate" which i got at the att store, and i have seen at bestbuy. it has a screen cover built onto it. not at first i thought it was cool, but after about 2 weeks there was a lot of dirt under it which i thought was weird, so i took it off to clean it, and i notice afew small scratches on my iphone from sliding the case on and off. pissed and broke i keep it, and i took it off a few more times, now i dont care about my iphone cause the black back is half white from all the deep scratches in it. so sad

i know one thing, and thats when i get my 3gs im nvr buying anything from case-mate

The best iphone 3g case i use is a plasitc case i got from an online shop Uxsight.com. It is stylish and slim.

I use the OtterBox Defender case and it is great protection for your phone in case you drop it. Hard case along with it, its wrapped in rubber and has a built in screen protector. Also has protective windows over the camera and the apple logo on the back. Comes with a holster clip that holds the phone tight and secure from falling out.
