With Patience you can actually apply it without using the solutuion, although for most people I wouldnt recomend it. I've applied a few thousand screen protectors so I've got a steady hand

I only used the back piece of the invisible shield and a regular screen protector on the front, but eventually got tired of the back piece and now I just use a SKINIT on the back

It's not an easy chore, but it keeps the oil off and easy to clean. When I dropped mine and ran over it, I started putting it in my pocket, so the cases would hang. Oh by the way when an 80,000 lbs truck runs over a IPhone, they don't hold too well. The Invisible Shield Screen protector did hold the shattered screen in one piece though.

I have used Zagg Invisible Shield Products for many of my devices. In fact i used them before they were acquired by Zagg. I am wondering what sort of bad experience you had with yours. hope I can help!

I don't own the phone yet and was wondering, how necessary are the screen protectors. Are they a must have?
