Reccomendations for Every Iphone Owner, Posted 05-13-2009, 05:18 PM #1 (permalink)
BUY a SCREEN protector and you will not be sorry!

Take whatever case you use, OFF, occassionally and clean out the lint, dust and stuff that will scratch the surface of your phone!

Think about RESALE, no one ever does but the better your phone looks the more likely you can sell it to buy the next iphone!

Cycle the battery fully as often as possible! Just cause it says low battery doesn't mean plug it in right away!

The Invisible shields make the phones thicker so think about that before buying a case and getting it stuck on!

The basic Silicone cases are over-rated for the Iphone, my recommendation if you want to buy one is the OTTERBOX Impact series which has re-enforced corners! I've seen to many people drop them in regular silicone cases and the screen crack!

I prefer the hard shields because usually on impact the case splits open transferring all of the blunt force and minimizing shock to the phone.

hi ive read somewhere that it actually harms the battery to cycle it to empty is that not the case then ?

taken directly from apple site

Lithium ion batteries are good for 300-500 charge/discharge cycles. A "charge/discharge" cycle generally consists of an extended charging period, and an extended discharging period. A quick charge, listening for 30 minutes, and charging again, for example, does not constitute a full "charge/discharge cycle", but could rather be considered a portion of one.

Also, many, many factors affect how much you get out of each charge, as well as how long the battery will last overall. The main factors include charging patterns, the routine amount of discharge (i.e., Do you use it until it dies? Use it for an hour or two and recharge?), temperature, storage, usage frequency, etc. Lithium ion batteries do not take kindly to frequent full or complete discharges. When possible, the optimal usage pattern - for any lithium ion battery - is a partial discharge, followed by recharging. A partial discharge can be anything less than a full discharge. However, an occasional full discharge is desirable (e.g., once every 30 charges) to calibrate the battery. Lithium ion batteries do not significantly degrade, or develop "memory", even if charged at irregular intervals; irregular charging is acceptable. An iPod can also safely be attached to external power for extended periods of time. (For extremely extended periods of time, such as months, the battery will essentially be the same as if it were in "storage"; lithium ion batteries do not store well for extended periods of time at full charge. However, there is no way around this under these circumstances.) When possible, always use the AC adapter (or vehicle adapter) for extended charging, not a FireWire cable attached to a computer.

It is generally recommended to store lithium ion batteries at about 40% charge. However, the iPod draws power even when it is off, meaning that it will soon deplete any charge that it has. If you will be storing your iPod for an extended period of time (i.e., weeks to months), it is recommended to store the unit in a cool place; charge level is unimportant, as the charge will be completely depleted after several days. The most harmful combination for storage is full charge at high temperature (i.e., in a hot car).

All the experts tell you to run the battery complete to discharge once a month. This makes the battery hold charges longer, which will extend battery life-term not charges cycles. Of course apple is going to tell you that they want you run the battery so you will send it for a new one or buy a new phone.

Most people don't tae everytime literal, and this will usually get them to at least every once in a while run it down. And leaving it plugged in LONG after its fully charged, not recommended either
