I have 3G 8GB and 3GS 32GB ..
Without turning them on ... on the front side there is no way you could identify the difference between the 2 and the only difference on the back side is the label which says ... 8GB & 32GB with no 3GS
This means there is no way you could determine if its 3GS or 3G without turning it on ...

you can tell by looking at the back, the 3Gs has iPhone and the size in silver. the 3G is grey.

Also, I thought that they had the switches on the left side of the phone ( if your looking at the face ) were Silver on the 3GS and black on the 3G . . . I could be wrong I don't own a 3G I had a 2G and a 3GS
Thanks,
Cat

Yes on the 3GS you can see the lettering on the back is silver and on the 3 G it's grey that's the only physical difference on the exterior of the phone

verry simple actualy,
the bottom lettering on the back of the iphone that sais iphone and states what gigabyte it is and all the good stuff we dont care about will be in shiny chrome like the apple logo, thats the 3GS the 3G just has a gray type of writing on it thats rather plain.
and of course when you turn it on itl be quite obvious what youre phone is.
i assume you would know wich phone youve bought though ;]

Such complicated answers, simple question, simple answer
Cosmetically the difference is something quite simple on the 3gS the letters on the back of the phone are shiny. On the 3g they are grey.
