How it worked for me using Vista, Posted 07-04-2009, 12:29 AM #13 (permalink)
This is what I did, I was in the same boat with Vista. After you launch purplera1n and it stops working at the RESTORE screen: Close Itunes (mine kept popping up as it should), close purplera1n and unplug the usb connection. RElaunch purplera1n but dont execute just yet. Hold down HOME and PWR (it will go back to the RESTORE) as soon as you do that hit "make it ra1n" again. This time it should give you the pic like the one on purplera1n website. Repeat the steps again and it should load the rest of the way and reboot itself.

It took me a while to get it, and you may have to mix it up a bit (I was doing alot of unplugging and plugging in, but that was the main way I got it to work.

Read what I just wrote above and try that. You might also try executing purplera1n as administrator. There are plenty of good tutorials out there, from what I read it works best with XP, but it worked fine for me (after many attempts) with Vista.

Easier way to get PurpleRa1n to work...

1. Turn OFF the phone
2. Open itunes
3. Open purplera1n
4. Hold Home and plug in the cable to put the phone in Recovery (itunes and cable pic, NOT DFU Mode)
5. iTunes will tell you that its in recovery mode
6. eject phone in itunes, but do not unplug it and then close itunes
7. now press the button in PurpleRa1n
8. look at iphone (screen should change to image like on there site)
9. Wait about 1 min and it will restart.
10. Open freeze and install Cydia
11. Restart iPhone
12. Open Cydia and Update it

Do NOT install WinterBoard (Springboard crashed every time i started it and went to Safe Mode)
I heard something about Winterboard Lite but didnt try it yet.

I tried this 4 times now and it worked every time.
