Update to earlier question
Posted earlier:
Have an iphone 3g jailbroken and unlocked. Recently (2 days ago) lost service for my T-mobile, phone states no service connected. Will occasionally recognize my T-mobile sim card but otherwise drops out and can't find service. Shows ATT and T-mobile at times and allows me to choose or will search and find but doesn't last long. Any answers as to what might be going on? Suggestions as to what I might do for a fix. Everything worked fine up until that point. Even got a new sim card activated thinking that may be the problem. No luck. Please help if you have an answer. 3g is turned off and I only use wifi on occasion.
Found my problem: Carbon Fiber back shell case from Carbon Fiber Gear. Specifically the monCarbone brand back shell. I don't know whether others have had a problem with this but YouTube has a video on another brand that shows the same problem on a 3GS. My research question was: What effect does carbon fiber have on signal strength on the iphone 3G? You can watch your signal stregnth go from 5 bars down to 0 bars and eventually to No Service. Also tried it on a 3GS at the shop where the people worked on the problem for me and had the same results. Don't know what it is in the make up of these cases but I now have a vey nice light weight paper weight.Last edited by ghostwalker; 08-15-2009 at 09:14 AM. Reason: title

Dont think Cases will cause the Signal to go down. But it could.... Try getting the the thing that apple has to boost the Strenght of the iPhone.

A Case will reduce the signal strength that received by any phone. It's no different than holding your hands over a antenna on a regular phone. As far as using a signal booster from Apple, why give Apple any more money than they have already made. Take the case off or reset network settings to point to a different or strong tower.
IPhone 3g with 3.0.1 jailbroken and unlocked.

Have already reset phone. As long as I don't use that case everything works fine. Just as in the video as soon as I place it on the phone in that particular CF case you can watch the signal degrade and finally no service. I have it in my SwitchEasy case, have 5 bars of signal and no problems. Having been in the electronics industry years ago I know that carbon is the main ingredient of resistors (something most of you have probably never heard of) and may very well interfere with signal in some of the iphones.
