NO MMS for 2G/!st Gen iPHONE., Posted 10-13-2009, 12:08 PM #3 (permalink)
I called earlier this year when AT&T said they were going to roll it out. Talked to U.S. rep guy and hey said with out hesitation that MMS was not going to be supported or enabled for the 1st Gen iPhones. Weather or not that is a a technical truth or not. I would presume that the 1st gen phone possibly could handle MMS. I think that AT&T just doesn't want all the extra iPhone on the network if they can help it and are limiting MMS to the 3Gs only. I have a 1st Gen iPhone and not pleased that marketing is making people that owns 2G phones, upgrade to 3G's if they want MMS. Greedy Corportate America at it's finest.

Is this regarding the SwirlyMMS? What carrier are you using and if ur using AT&T, do you have a non iPhone cell that has MMS?

I tried earlier this year using SwirlyMMS, even bought it and after reading all the posts they mention about AT&T. I learned after wasting about 4 hours on it, that MMS would not work on the AT&T iPhone. Most has to do with AT&T service and enabling it on the user account. Saw many posts that if someone had a non-iphone on AT&T that had MMS service that you could, with work, get it going but for those of use that this is our only phone, wasn't going to happen. I'd be interested to know your setup if your actually on a 1st gen iphone and on AT&T service.

I have a 3G (had a 2G before, and a Razr before that). I upgraded my service when I got the 2G to unlimited Data and 200 txt. When I picked up the 3G, MMS became available - I don't have it. I did update to 3.1.2 and did update the carrier file but still didn't have "Cellular Data Network" showing up.

I found instructions that will put that file on the phone.and I do have the little camera icon ..but MMS still doesn't work and I don't want to pay more than I already am paying! I have been looking at forums hoping someone found the magic formula to get it going....but I guess that isn't going to happen with AT&T at the helm....
