Red face Cydia is there, now cannot install Installer.app

I have a new iPhone 3G that someone jailbroke and unlocked for me. I found Cydia installed. Need Installer.app, too. Found out that this requires Quick Pwn. I downloaded that, and upon launch, it tells me that the firmeware installed on my iPhone is not supported by Quick Pwn. I did not do the iTunes upgrade of firmware from 2.2 to 2.2.1, as I was warned that this would permanently lock my iPhone.

What to do? Your help for a newcomer to the whole business of getting an iphone up and running is much appreciated.

    Cool Reply

ok, the best thing to do is to put the iphone in DFU mode (recovery mode)
and reinstalling the 2.2 firmware. then, you can rejailbreak it and get installer and cydia. personally, i think installer is just a waste of space, but it's kinda helpful. not as much as it used to be though.

to put iphone in DFU mode:

    1. connect to computer
    2. hold Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds exactly.
    3. after ten seconds, release the Power button, but continue to hold the Home button until the iphone is in DFU mode (your PC should say)
