haha i was really bored.. this is what i got
Brent Roberts: the settings i have are APN: wap.cingular Username
wap@cingulargprs.com Password: CINGULAR1 MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32 what is that??
Gina Thomas: The proxy is the address that your phone connects to when you try to access the internet.
Brent Roberts: are those correct.. the ones that i gave you?
Gina Thomas: They are correct, Mr. Roberts. If you are able to access the internet, they are correct as well as your provisioning in our system. Did you see the explanation about accessing MMS on your phone?
Brent Roberts: yes. now why cant you activate my wap if my settings are correct.. wouldnt that enable mms
Gina Thomas: I cannot enable anything that pertains to MMS or do the WAP push, Mr. Roberts, because you have an iPhone provisioned on your account. You are using the iPhone SIM in other phones, but the iPhone provisioning is governing what you may and may not do with any of your phones. We are rolling out MMS by the end of the summer and at that time, you will not have a problem with your MMS, but at this time, you will not be able to utilize the MMS feature as long as you have an iPhone active on your account. I do apologize, Mr. Roberts.
Brent Roberts: i have read on numerous counts that it is manual and if you contact at&t they can do that for you, its as easy as hitting a button. why would you not be able to
Gina Thomas: I am sure that you are reading this on our forums, Mr. Roberts. Yes, there have been representatives in the past that was manually enabling MMS for iPhone users, but our network and Apple is not compatible at this point. That is the reason for the upgrade that will come out at the end of the summer. We are forbidden to add any MMS features or enable WAP push on any iPhone account, Mr. Roberts. This is considered a code of conduct violation, for which we can lose our jobs. So, that is why this is not being done right now. You will have to wait for the upgrade coming out at the end of the summer, along with all other iPhone users. I do apologize.
Brent Roberts: so you CAN do it, but you just aren't alloud?
Gina Thomas: It can be done manually, but as I stated, we are still trying to get the MMS compatible with the iPhones, so our customers will be able to utilize their MMS without any problem. And yes, they have taken the ability to manually add the WAP push in the system, due to so many breaches of that MMS issue. So even if I did have the access, I would not be allowed to do so.
Gina Thomas: AT&T will enable MMS for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G S after launch in late summer 2009, after completing system upgrades to ensure that our customers have the best experience with MMS. These upgrades are unrelated to our 3G network, and when MMS is ready, we will contact customers to let them know that they are able to connect to iTunes. Customers will be prompted to download a software update. This update will enable customers to seamlessly send and receive picture and video messaging like they do on other AT&T devices.
Brent Roberts: why do i have the camera icon next to my text box when i type sms
Gina Thomas: Is that on your iPhone?
Brent Roberts: yes'
Gina Thomas: Does the message go through Mr. Roberts?
Brent Roberts: untill about 95% and then a red exclamation point appears next to the picture. i'm shure it would go thru if you enabled wap
Gina Thomas: I do apologize, Mr. Roberts, but SMS does not have anything to do with the internet access, which is what WAP is.
Brent Roberts: it is an mms tho... the picture sends 95% and then the red exclamation piont appears, why do they put a button on your phone that doesnt work..
Gina Thomas: When a manufacturer makes a phone, they make it to where it will do anything in the manual. But when the carrier orders those phones, they order what access they want their customers to have. The MMS was to be rolled out, after the original iPhone was ordered from Apple, but they found that it was not compatible with our network. They have been trying since to make the MMS compatible with our network, Mr. Roberts. I can't really explain the why's and wherefores as to that decision, except as I have already explained it to you. I really do apologize, I wish there was something that I could do, but you are going to have to wait until the upgrade late summer.
Brent Roberts: alright, thanks. anyway
Gina Thomas: You are welcome. I know you are disappointed, but it will not be much longer now. Is there anything else I may assist you with today?
Brent Roberts: enable wap..
Gina Thomas: disconnected
