Apple hires Jailbreak Developer, Comex

Remember the guy who made the easy to use JailbreakMe software? Nicholas Allegra aka Comex got hired by Apple as an intern. Congratulations Comex, you deserve this job! Comex will be starting his job the week after next. He hasn’t revealed his job position yet, but judging by his skills he will probably be working on security.

What does that mean for the jailbreaking community? Well, once he starts working with Apple he definitely won’t be allowed to build jailbreaks. But in response to someone saying “RIP JailbreakMe” on twitter he said that he does hope MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev Team will be able to work on JailbreakMe 4.0. If Comex is in a security related field, then this will definitely make the cat and mouse game more interesting and fun for other jailbreak developers.

Apple is lucky to have Comex working for them. Please don’t think of Comex as evil or a traitor, because he is just thinking about his future. This is just an intern and it will definitely help build his credits and get more experience in his field.

Jailbreak iPad 2 4.3.3 with JailbreakMe 3.0

Comex has finally released JailbreakMe 3.0 software after months of hard work. Now everyone can finally jailbreak iPad 2 hardware on iOS 4.3.3 firmware using JailbreakMe 3.0. For those that don’t know what JailbreakMe is, it’s a web-based easy to use jailbreak. Users can easily and quickly jailbreak their device just by going to the JailbreakMe 3.0 website.

JailbreakMe 3.0 software is supported on the following iOS devices:

iPad 2 – iOS 4.3.3
iPad 1 – iOS 4.3, iOS 4.3.1, iOS 4.3.2, and iOS 4.3.3

How to Jailbreak with JailbreakMe 3.0

To jailbreak your device with JailbreakMe 3.0, follow the steps below:

1. Open Safari on your iOS device, and visit www.jailbreakme.com.

2. Tap the Free button, and then tap the Install button.

3. JailbreakMe 3.0 will do it’s work, and Cydia will automatically start installing. That’s it, enjoy your jailbreak. Wasn’t that easy?

4. Optional, but RECOMMENDED: Open up Cydia, and search and install PDF Patcher 2 so your device is safe from the holes that JailbreakMe 3.0 uses.

If you are on iOS 5.0 beta, you can still download iOS 4.3.3 and downgrade if you want to jailbreak your device.

Today is WWDC 2011, and Apple will officially be announcing the new iOS 5 software, Mac OS X Lion operating system, and a possible iPhone 5 release date.

iOS 4.3.3 Download Links

Today Apple finally released the iOS 4.3.3 download for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G, and iPad users just like they promised in their recent press release. You can scroll down below to get the direct iOS 4.3.3 download links or update through iTunes. This is a minor update which changes the way the iOS 4 tracking works. iOS 4.3.3 software update has the following changes:

Makes cache size smaller.
Doesn’t backup the cache to iTunes No longer backs the cache up to iTunes.
Deletes Cache entirely if Location Services is off.

[WARNING] If you are on iOS 4.3.3 & you want to retain your untethered jailbreak then do not update to iOS 4.3.3 right now as there is no untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.3 as of this post. If you want to unlock your device or jailbreak iPad 2, then stay away from the iOS 4.3.3 update for now, as it’s just a minor fix.

Geohot To Work on iPad 2 Jailbreak

The first hacker to jailbreak iPad 2 hardware was comex from iPhone Dev Team, but he is still working on the actual jailbreak. P0sixninja, the developer of the greenpois0n jailbreak software is also trying to develop an iPad 2 jailbreak and challenged famous iPhone hacker geohot to make an iPad 2 jailbreak himself.

Geohot accepted the challenge by p0sixninja and he will be buying an iPad 2 and trying to develop a jailbreak for it soon. Stay tuned iPad 2 users. Now that we have comex, p0sixninja, and Geohot working on trying to get an iPad 2 jailbreak out, we just might get an iPad 2 jailbreak soon.

Jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 Untethered — iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod touch 4G, and iPod touch 3G

You can now jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 untethered as the iPhone Dev Team has now released the Untethered iOS 4.3.2 jailbreak. Credits for the redsn0w software go to iPhone Dev Team and the exploit goes to i0n1c. Just follow the steps below to jailbreak. If you want to unlock your iPhone to use it on another carrier, you should not jailbreak or update to iOS 4.3.2 yet as PwnageTool software for it has not been updated for it yet.

Apple also released the iTunes 10.2.2 download, but you can still jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 untethered so it’s safe to update to iTunes 10.2.2.

This jailbreak is compatible with the following devices:

Jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 Untethered iPhone 4 (GSM) — [UPDATE: WORKS on iPhone 4 Now!]
Jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 Untethered iPhone 3GS
Jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 Untethered iPod touch 4G
Jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 Untethered iPod touch 3G
Jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 Untethered iPad 1 – You can’t Jailbreak iPad 2 iOS 4.3.2 Untethered because that uses a different exploit which hasn’t been released yet!

Steps to Jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 Untethered:

1. Download redsn0w 0.9.6 rc14 for Windows or Mac computer. Make sure you update to iOS 4.3.2 if you haven’t already!

2. Download iOS 4.3.2 IPSW software for your device.

3. Open redsn0w (you may have to open it in XP Compatibility mode — to do that, right-click redsn0w -> Properties -> Compatibility Tab and select Windows XP and click OK), and follow the on screen instructions. Once it’s done you will be jailbroken on iOS 4.3.2 untethered!

Having problems updating to iOS 4.3.2? If you can’t update to iOS 4.3.2 it may be because you have gs.apple.com in your HOSTS file, so remove gs.apple.com and you should be able to update your device to iOS 4.3.2. Here are the steps on how to do this:

1. Right-click and Run Notepad as administrator

2. File -> Open, and Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and open the HOSTS file

3. Erase the line that says gs.apple.com

4. Go to File -> Save As- > and for file name make sure it’s HOSTS and for file type make sure you select All files and then click Save.

iOS 4.3.2 Untethered Jailbreak Possible – iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod touch 4G, and iPod touch 3G

Apple released iOS 4.3.2 download just yesterday, and you can currently jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 TETHERED only (which means you need to rejailbreak each time you reboot, so it’s not worth it). Thankfully, Stefan Esser aka i0n1c, the guy who developed the iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak has confirmed that an untethered jailbreak is possible on iOS 4.3.2. Apple has not patched i0n1c’s untethered exploit that he used in iOS 4.3.1.

If you want to jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 untethered, you will need to wait a while. i0n1c says that he will begin working on the untethered exploit on Sunday and it will take some time for it to be created. With an untethered jailbreak iOS users only need to jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 once without the need of having to reboot it every time.

For you geeks out there, i0n1c couldn’t use the untethered binaries from iOS 4.3.1 because he has to create new untethered binaries with new dyld/kernel offsets. The reason i0n1c could not create the untethered binaries to jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 right now is because he is travelling and will be in planes. The iPhone Dev Team cannot create the untethered binaries because i0n1c has kept the source code to himself only.

Jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 — iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod touch 4G, and iPod touch 3G

Apple released the iOS 4.3.2 download for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod touch 4G, and iPod touch 3G hardware today along with iOS 4.2.7 download for Verizon iPhone 4 (CDMA) users. The update Apple issued for iOS 4.3.2 fixes bugs, FaceTime issues, and security issues. If you want to jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 I highly recommend you to stay on iOS 4.3.1 for now as it’s unclear whether or not iOS 4.3.2 patches the untethered vulnerability present in iOS 4.3.1.

You can currently jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 on Mac only (EDIT: SEE UPDATE BELOW) on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G, and iPad using the redsn0w jailbreak, but that only gives you a tethered jailbreak. So if you jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 with PwnageTool, you will need to keep using PwnageTool to jailbreak your iOS 4.3.2 device each time you reboot it. It’s a long tedious process, but if you love to hack and want to do it just for fun head on over to BlogsDNA and read Sandip’s post. Credit for the PwnageTool 4.3.2 jailbreak goes to DJayB6 for the bundles and iPhone Dev Team for the actual jailbreak software.

UPDATE: You can also jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 using redsn0w 0.9.6rc12, by pointing it to iOS 4.3.1 firmware but it will still be TETHERED so you have to jailbreak it everytime you reboot your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch.

If you want to untethered jailbreak iOS 4.3.2, then refrain from updating to iOS 4.3.2 right now and wait until an official iOS 4.3.2 jailbreak is released. I will post here once you can jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 untethered.

The news a lot of you here have been waiting for has finally come true! The iPhone Dev Team has released redsn0w0.9.6rc9 software which uses the Untethered jailbreak which Stefan Essar aka i0n1c created, so you can now jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 untethered on the following devices:

iPhone 4 4.3.1 – GSM Only, so CDMA Verizon iPhone 4′s are not supported!
iPhone 3GS 4.3.1
iPod touch 4G 4.3.1
iPod touch 3G 4.3.1
iPad 1G 4.3.1 – iPad 2 is not supported!
