iOS 5.0 Download Links (BETA)

Today Scott Forstall announced the iOS 5 in the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The iOS 5 software has over 200 new features and will support Over The Air (OTA) updates.

The final iOS 5 release date is in fall, so users who wish to download will need to wait as it’s still in beta. Developers can download the beta iOS 5.0 download now from the iOS Dev Center.

Here are the download links for iOS 5.0. Only Developers can download iOS 5.0, so unless you’re a developer you cannot download from the below links.

NOTE: Devices updated to iOS 5 beta can not be restored to earlier versions of iOS. Devices will be able to upgrade to future beta releases and the final iOS 5 software. You will also need to download iTunes 10.5 beta from the iOS Dev Center to activate iOS 5.0 beta.

The greenpois0n RC 5.2 untethered download for Windows has now been released by the Chronic Dev Team. You can download greenpois0n Windows RC 5.2 from the greenpois0n page. This version is compatible with the following devices on iOS 4.2.1:

Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 Untethered with Greenpois0n Windows RC 5.2 Tutorial

1. Download greenpois0n for Windows, then watch this video or follow the instructions below.

2. Make sure you are using the latest version of iTunes (currently that is version 10.1.2) otherwise you won’t be able to do a 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak. To do that go to iTunes – > Check for Updates.

3. Connect your iOS 4.2.1 device to your computer using the white USB cable.

4. If iTunes opens, make sure you close it!

5. Open the greenpois0n Windows RC 5.2 application to begin the jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 untethered process.

6. Follow the instructions within greenpois0n Windows RC 5.2 so you can get an untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak, first click the “Prepare to Jailbreak (DFU)” button:

Press and hold the sleep button (2 seconds)
Continue holding sleep; press and hold home button (10 seconds)
Release sleep button; continue holding home button (15 seconds)

7. After following step 6, your device will be in DFU mode and greenpois0n will start jailbreaking iOS 4.2.1 untethered on your device.

8. Once your device is successfully jailbroken untethered on your iOS 4.2.1 software, then your device will reboot and you will see a green icon named “Loader” on your device.

9. Tap on the green “Loader” application to open it, and then tap on Cydia and tap on “Install” to install Cydia. Now Cydia should be on your iOS 4.2.1 jailbroken untethered device, and you should be able to install jailbroken apps on it.

Troubleshooting

Cydia does not show up on my iOS 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak device after using Loader? – Try rebooting your device and seeing if it shows up. I had to restart my iPhone 4 and it showed up after rebooting.
greenpois0n is stuck on greenpois0n initialized and has the following error message:
- unable to find gBdevList
- unable to find fs_mount
- unable to find fs_unmount
- unable to find fs_load_file
greenpois0n 1.0 RC 5 Quit Unexpectedly – Just relaunch it and try it again!
Loader is not installing Cydia – Due to many other users like you, the server which hosts the Cydia download is overloaded. I recommend trying downloading some other time, or you can just use redsn0w 0.9.6 rc8 and install Cydia through that. It’s very easy to use redsn0w and install it and that’s what other people seem to be doing too right now.

Those that want to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 untethered have now gotten their wish. Today Chronic Dev Team released the greenpois0n 1.0 RC 5 update. This version of the greenpois0n software supports the following devices:

iPhone 4 – 4.2.1
iPhone 3GS – 4.2.1
iPod touch 4G – 4.2.1
iPod touch 3G – 4.2.1
iPod touch 2G – 4.2.1
iPad 1G – 4.2.1
Apple TV – 4.2.1

Instructions on how to use greenpois0n 1.0 RC5 (MAC) to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 untethered on your device are below. Only the Mac version is out right now, but we will also make a post here once the Windows version is out. Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 Untethered with Greenpois0n for Mac Tutorial

1. Download greenpois0n for Mac, then watch this video or follow the instructions below.

Verizon iPhone (iPhone 4) CDMA to be Announced Tomorrow!

Verizon will be holding an event where they will be announcing the new Verizon iPhone on their network. According to the Wall Street Journal the Verizon iPhone is a CDMA iPhone. It is going to be an iPhone 4, but without a SIM card slot. Due to the fact that it’s CDMA, it can work on Sprint as well so I think there is a possibility of being able to unlock this phone and use it on Sprint.

The Verizon iPhone will also have an unlimited data plan as well, at least according to a recent article on The Wall Street Journal. If this is true, then Verizon users have an edge over AT&T users due to the fact that AT&T does not have an unlimited plan. Unfortunately the Verizon iPhone won’t be running on Verizon’s new super fast 4G (LTE) network. It’ll probably support the LTE network in a future generation.

Jailbreak iOS 4.2 Details

Device Compatibility

All iOS devices will be jailbreakable on iOS 4.2 and future firmware updates. This means you can jailbreak iPhone 4 4.2, jailbreak iPhone 3GS 4.2, jailbreak iPhone 3G 4.2, jailbreak iPhone 2G 4.2, jailbreak iPhone 4.2, jailbreak iPod touch 4G 4.2, jailbreak iPod touch 3G 4.2, jailbreak iPod touch 2G 4.2, jailbreak iPod touch 4.2, jailbreak iPad 3G 4.2, and jailbreak iPad 4.2 firmware.

Tethered Jailbreak vs Untethered Jailbreak

Some devices may be tethered. This means that you will need to jailbreak iOS 4.2 each time you reboot your iOS device. Untethered jailbreak means you only need to jailbreak once and you can reboot without having to jailbreak iOS 4.2 every time. The good news is that most of the devices will be untethered.

Jailbreak iOS 4.2 Software

You will be able to jailbreak iOS 4.2 with either redsn0w (Windows,Mac, Linux), greenpois0n (Windows,Mac, Linux), or limera1n (Windows, Mac). Unlock iOS 4.2 Details

iPhone 3G and 3GS users will be able to unlock iOS 4.2 through a newer version of ultrasn0w, while iPhone 4 users will have to wait.

iOS 4.2 Update Details

Notable new features in iOS 4.2 for iPad include Multi-tasking, Folders, AirPrint, and Game Center. New features in iOS 4.2 for iPhone and iPod touch include AirPlay, Ringer Volume Control, FaceTime, and improved performance on iPhone 3G.

Greenpois0n Release Date For iOS 4.1 Jailbreak Days Away

The greenpois0n release date is anticipated by many iPhone and iPod touch users who want to jailbreak iOS 4.1. I know many of you here have been eagerly waiting for it to be released, and have been upset by the fact that no ETA has been given as to when it will be released. Be happy now, because finally, pod2g, the one who made the SHAtter jailbreak exploit revealed, made a tweet saying that the greenpois0n download will be released in days.

The greenpois0n jailbreak software (for those that don’t know what it is) uses the SHAtter exploit to jailbreak iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch on iOS 4.1 firmware. It is an easy to use GUI which will be available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Greenpois0n is NOT an unlock, and if you want to unlock your device then you must wait for another tool to be released.

As we get closer to the launch of greenposi0n I’d like to advise everyone to steer clear of any greenpois0n downloads that you see on torrents or pay for any download as those are fakes and contain viruses. iPhone iOS 4.1 Jailbreak Greenpois0n Update

The iPhone iOS 4.1 jailbreak greenpois0n is currently a work in progress. The creators of the greenpois0n software, Chronic Dev Team recently updated their blog due to many people asking for progress. As many here may already know, in the jailbreak world the release date of any jailbreak software is not known until the software is actually ready for release.

The Chronic Dev Team said that any detail they give is too technical for anyone to understand and it could reveal the exploit if they gave any detail away. The Chronic Dev Team also wrote in their blog post “Just know that things are going swimmingly and we are working as hard as we can”.

Now you don’t want Apple to win the cat and mouse game do you? Thought so! So stay tuned and wait for the iOS 4.1 jailbreak (greenpois0n) to be released. SHAtter Jailbreak: Jailbreak iOS 4.1, 4.2, and ABOVE for LIFE

A new exploit called the SHAtter Jailbreak will allow all iOS users including iPhone 4, iPad 3G, and iPod touch 4G to jailbreak their mobile devices for life. This is BIG news for those that jailbreak their iDevices. With SHAtter, the jailbreak community will always have their jailbreak. Apple won’t be able to patch the SHAtter jailbreak exploit, and the cat and mouse game with Apple and jailbreakers will most likely end.

According to a page on The iPhone Wiki (Google Cache), the SHAtter jailbreak is the first exploit in the S5L8930 that will allow unsigned code execution to create a tethered jailbreak for life, and as an initial vector for all new untethered exploits to come. The SHAtter jailbreak vulnerability, exploitation and payload were created by pod2g and posixninja. No release date for the SHAtter jailbreak download has been announced yet.

Jailbreak iOS 4.1 Tool Release Imminent

Many iPhone and iPod touch users are desperately waiting to jailbreak iOS 4.1. No jailbreak tool has been released yet, but an iPhone hacker, pod2g has found a new exploit in the new iOS 4.1 firmware which will allow users to jailbreak iOS 4.1.

The following tweet by pod2g confirms his new exploit: “iPhone 4G iBSS 4.0.1: iv=91f94e5d726a2d2f2c7ffad58d4f3b77 key=d05c3c40db40e738926f811b8b1314038d26096c4102461698a49098c47a3fe6“.
