The greenpois0n RC 5.2 untethered download for Windows has now been released by the Chronic Dev Team. You can download greenpois0n Windows RC 5.2 from the greenpois0n page. This version is compatible with the following devices on iOS 4.2.1:

Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 Untethered with Greenpois0n Windows RC 5.2 Tutorial

1. Download greenpois0n for Windows, then watch this video or follow the instructions below.

2. Make sure you are using the latest version of iTunes (currently that is version 10.1.2) otherwise you won’t be able to do a 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak. To do that go to iTunes – > Check for Updates.

3. Connect your iOS 4.2.1 device to your computer using the white USB cable.

4. If iTunes opens, make sure you close it!

5. Open the greenpois0n Windows RC 5.2 application to begin the jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 untethered process.

6. Follow the instructions within greenpois0n Windows RC 5.2 so you can get an untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak, first click the “Prepare to Jailbreak (DFU)” button:

Press and hold the sleep button (2 seconds)
Continue holding sleep; press and hold home button (10 seconds)
Release sleep button; continue holding home button (15 seconds)

7. After following step 6, your device will be in DFU mode and greenpois0n will start jailbreaking iOS 4.2.1 untethered on your device.

8. Once your device is successfully jailbroken untethered on your iOS 4.2.1 software, then your device will reboot and you will see a green icon named “Loader” on your device.

9. Tap on the green “Loader” application to open it, and then tap on Cydia and tap on “Install” to install Cydia. Now Cydia should be on your iOS 4.2.1 jailbroken untethered device, and you should be able to install jailbroken apps on it.

Troubleshooting

Cydia does not show up on my iOS 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak device after using Loader? – Try rebooting your device and seeing if it shows up. I had to restart my iPhone 4 and it showed up after rebooting.
greenpois0n is stuck on greenpois0n initialized and has the following error message:
- unable to find gBdevList
- unable to find fs_mount
- unable to find fs_unmount
- unable to find fs_load_file
greenpois0n 1.0 RC 5 Quit Unexpectedly – Just relaunch it and try it again!
Loader is not installing Cydia – Due to many other users like you, the server which hosts the Cydia download is overloaded. I recommend trying downloading some other time, or you can just use redsn0w 0.9.6 rc8 and install Cydia through that. It’s very easy to use redsn0w and install it and that’s what other people seem to be doing too right now.

Those that want to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 untethered have now gotten their wish. Today Chronic Dev Team released the greenpois0n 1.0 RC 5 update. This version of the greenpois0n software supports the following devices:

iPhone 4 – 4.2.1
iPhone 3GS – 4.2.1
iPod touch 4G – 4.2.1
iPod touch 3G – 4.2.1
iPod touch 2G – 4.2.1
iPad 1G – 4.2.1
Apple TV – 4.2.1

Instructions on how to use greenpois0n 1.0 RC5 (MAC) to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 untethered on your device are below. Only the Mac version is out right now, but we will also make a post here once the Windows version is out. Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 Untethered with Greenpois0n for Mac Tutorial

1. Download greenpois0n for Mac, then watch this video or follow the instructions below.

Troubleshooting

Cydia does not show up on my iOS 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak device after using Loader? – Try rebooting your device and seeing if it shows up. I had to restart my iPhone 4 and it showed up after rebooting.

Jailbreak iOS 4.2 Details

Device Compatibility

All iOS devices will be jailbreakable on iOS 4.2 and future firmware updates. This means you can jailbreak iPhone 4 4.2, jailbreak iPhone 3GS 4.2, jailbreak iPhone 3G 4.2, jailbreak iPhone 2G 4.2, jailbreak iPhone 4.2, jailbreak iPod touch 4G 4.2, jailbreak iPod touch 3G 4.2, jailbreak iPod touch 2G 4.2, jailbreak iPod touch 4.2, jailbreak iPad 3G 4.2, and jailbreak iPad 4.2 firmware.

Tethered Jailbreak vs Untethered Jailbreak

Some devices may be tethered. This means that you will need to jailbreak iOS 4.2 each time you reboot your iOS device. Untethered jailbreak means you only need to jailbreak once and you can reboot without having to jailbreak iOS 4.2 every time. The good news is that most of the devices will be untethered.

Notable new features in iOS 4.2 for iPad include Multi-tasking, Folders, AirPrint, and Game Center. New features in iOS 4.2 for iPhone and iPod touch include AirPlay, Ringer Volume Control, FaceTime, and improved performance on iPhone 3G.

The greenpois0n iOS 4.1 jailbreak launch is getting closer. The Chronic Dev Team is working full time on getting the greenpois0n jailbreak completed and out ASAP. If you want to jailbreak your phone or iPod touch, just wait a little more and be patient. The Chronic Dev Team will have it sooner than you think. To those wondering, no this post doesn’t have greenpois0n downloads but it was created so that people wouldn’t search “greenpois0n download” on Google and end up paying $30 for a sponsored website which appears first in the search results. Beware of any site that charges you for greenpois0n, as it’s free and will always be free.

Due to many requests, and people downloading fake torrents and viruses from bogus sites, I’ve made a greenpois0n download page at http://www.quickpwn.com/greenpois0n-download. This page will have greenpois0n download links for Windows, Mac, and Linux once it’s released by the Chronic Dev Team. Of course the official downloads will be available at the official website on greenpois0n.com as well, but their server could be overloaded and I’ve made the page here as an alternative.

SHAtter iOS 4.1 Jailbreak Exploit – iPod touch 4th Generation Jailbreak Accomplished

Near the beginning of this month, the SHAtter iOS 4.1 Jailbreak Exploit was discovered by an iPhone hacker that goes by the name pod2g. pod2g gave the exploit to two different jailbreaking teams: iPhone Dev Team and Chronic Dev Team. iPhone Dev Team will be using the SHAtter exploit in their PwnageTool jailbreak, while Chronic Dev Team will be using the SHAtter exploit in their greenpois0n jailbreak.

Today, the iPhone Dev Team posted a video here showing proof that the SHAtter exploit can jailbreak iPod touch 4G. Now skeptics can stop complaining and wait for the jailbreak to be released. Watch the video and you can see that the iPod touch 4th generation jailbreak was successfully accomplished, thanks to the SHAtter exploit that pod2g developed and handed over to the iPhone Dev Team and Chronic Dev Team. The iPhone Dev Team stated on their blog post that the SHAtter iOS 4.1 jailbreak exploit will be used in PwnageTool mainly for those with iPhone 4′s so they can update while preserving their unlock.

A lot of people keep bugging Chronic Dev Team and asking for an update on when the greenpois0n Jailbreak will be out. As I mentioned in my greenpois0n update post, the greenpois0n update will be released before iOS 4.2 software is released. Follow @QuickPWN on Twitter for the latest updates.

Jailbreak iPod touch 3.1.3 untethered

The iPhone 3.1.3 update that Apple released today caused people who updated to it to loose their jailbreak. My jailbreak iPod touch 3.1.3 post has instructions on how users can jailbreak their device with older jailbreak software. The jailbreak did not work for any iPod touch device, but you can prepare for it by following the instrutions below.

If you want to just jailbreak iPod touch 3.1.3, download iPhone userbar and you will receive an alert once the jailbreak is out. The user bar also has download links for the following firmware, so I recommend you download your firmware in advance so you can use it when you jailbreak.

Jailbreak iPod touch 3.1.3: Untethered vs tethered

An tethered jailbreak means your iPod touch will need to go through a jailbreak process again if you restart it, and untethered means that you won’t have to jailbreak every time you restart because the jailbreak is permanent. The tethered jailbreaks started coming when Apple patched an exploit that allowed an untethered jailbreak.

Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3

The iPhone 3.1.3 update that Apple released today required users of jailbroken iPhones or iPod Touches to wait for a new jailbreak software to be released before updating. This jailbreak is for 3.1.2 but may work for iPhone 3G 3.1.3, iPhone 3GS 3.1.3, or iPhone first generation.

If you want to just jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3 you can try the old jailbreak and see if it works, if not then you will need to just download iPhone userbar and you will receive an alert once the jailbreak is out.

Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3 with blackra1n

1. Download blackra1n

2. Click the make it ra1n button.

3. Your iPhone or iPod Touch will reboot once blackra1n is done doing it’s thing and you should see the blackra1n icon on there. If you don’t see the blackra1n icon, go to the last page on your iDevice and you should see it.

4. Install your preferred application from the blackra1n app. You have the option of choosing Cydia, Icy, or Rock. I don’t recommend you to install them all at once, because that may cause problems. Install them one at a time.

Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3 with PwnageTool

1. Download PwnageTool 3.1.4 (only works with Mac!)

2. You will be creating a custom IPSW and then restoring it through iTunes. If you don’t know how to do that, read my jailbreak iPhone 3.1 with PwnageTool post which gives step by step instructions.

Jailbreak iPod touch 3.1.3

Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2

The iPhone 3.1.2 update that Apple released last week required users of jailbroken iPhones or iPod Touches to wait for a new jailbreak software to be released before updating. There was no jailbreak available until Geohot released his new blackra1n 1 click jailbreak software. The blackra1n software is available for both Windows and Mac users, but it only supports iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch. blackra1n does not support the iPod Touch 3rd generation 8 GB models that have a MC in the model number. Many iPhone 3G users reported having a problem with blackra1n on iPhone 3G, if you were one of them please leave a comment telling us what problems you encountered and how you solved them. I will be making a blackra1n troubleshooting guide to help users that have any problem with it. You can jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 with blackra1n, but you cannot unlock iPhone 3.1.2. To unlock iPhone 3.1.2, you must use PwnageTool 3.1.4 which the Dev-Team recently released.

If you want to just jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 I recommend you use blackra1n, but if you want to unlock then you have no choice but to use PwnageTool which only works with Mac. If you haven’t already downloaded iPhone 3.1.2 or updated, the download links for it are below.

Jailbreak and unlock iPhone 3.1.2

Today the iPhone 3.1.2 update was released to iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch usres. This update includes mainly bug fixes. If you would like to jailbreak or unlock your device, you must read this. If you have an unlocked iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS do not update to this new firmware, updating to the iPhone 3.1.2 firmware will permanently update your baseband. The newer baseband does not support software unlocking.

The jailbreak has not been released yet, but you if you’ve got too much time on your hands you may be able to jailbreak if you try the following. If this works please share your results in the comments.

How to Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2

1. Update to iPhone 3.1.2. After updating, find your iPhone 3.1.2 IPSW file or download it using any of the links below. Remember, don’t use Safari to download. Safari can’t download .IPSW files properly, use a different browser!

Unlock iPhone 3.1.2

It’s possible to unlock iPhone 3.1.2 but only if your baseband has not been updated to 05.11.07 or the newer baseband, you must create a custom firmware that uses the 04.26.08 baseband. The iPhone 3.1.2 update updates the baseband to a newer one that permanently blocks the software unlock. A guide on how to unlock iPhone 3.1.2 will be up once a jailbreak tool is released.
