iPhone 3.1.2: Carrier update

iPhone 3.1.2: Carrier update

iPhone 3.1.2 carrier 5.6

The recently released iPhone 3.1.2 update also includes a carrier update for AT&T iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users. The carrier is updated to AT&T 5.6. The baseband/modem firmware for the iPhone 3.1.2 update still remains at 05.11.07 (which currenty cannot be unlocked).

How to update iPhone 3.1.2 carrier settings

1. Download and install the iPhone 3.1.2 firmware to your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS.

2. Once the iPhone  3.1.2 firmware is installed, iTunes will display a message saying: “An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to download it now?“. Click Download and Update.

3. Once you’ve clicked the download and update button, iTunes will automatically update your carrier settings and display the following message: “Your iPhone carrier settings were updated successfully“. That’s it, you’re done!

I’m not sure what is included in these new carrier settings. Last time Apple issued the carrier settings to enable MMS on AT&T, maybe these carrier settings will enable VoIP over 3G, now that AT&T is allowing Skype to use 3G. What do you think?

Today Apple released the iPhone 3.1.2 update for iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch users. Some users are having difficulty downloading the update through iTunes. If you’re one of these users, you can download the iPhone 3.1.2 firmware directly using the links below. Just download and then restore through iTunes

Remember, if you have a jailbreak or unlock you will loose it right now.

Note: Don’t use Safari to download iPhone 3.1.2 IPSW files, instead use another browser. Safari downloads this as a .ZIP and iTunes is not able to recognize the firmware that way.

The iPhone 3.1.2 jailbreak has not been released yet.

iPhone MMS not working?

iPhone MMS not working?

iPhone MMS not working

Today AT&T released the iPhone MMS Update for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users. Is iPhone MMS not working for you? I’ve read comments where people have been saying that MMS is not working for them. I just tried the MMS update on my iPhone 3GS running on iPhone 3.0.1 firmware and the MMS update worked fine for me.

If you have iPhone 3.1 firmware, then follow the enable iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS MMS update through iTunes guide. If you have iPhone 3.0 or iPhone 3.0.1 firmware then follow the enable MMS on iPhone 3.0 or iPhone 3.0.1 guide.

Feel free to share any MMS problems that you have in the comments below! If you can’t get it to work, you may want to try again later. The most common thing that most people are forgetting to do is reboot! Remember to reboot your iPhone after applying the MMS update and it should work for you.

A lot of iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users are still using firmware 3.0, due to the fact that a Windows jailbreak has not been released for iPhone 3.1 firmware.  AT&T released MMS for the iPhone today, and many jailbroken iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS users still want MMS on their iPhones but don’t want to update to 3.1 until there is a jailbreak released for it. Thankfully this can be done! I’ve added the AT&T 5.5 carrier profile download which AT&T released today. Follow my guide below to learn how to add it to your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS.

Note: If you are on iPhone 3.1 firmware, follow my Enable iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS MMS update through iTunes instead.

iPhone 3G/3GS Picture Messaging & video messaging on AT&T

iPhone 3G/3GS Picture Messaging & video messaging on AT&T

iPhone Picture Messaging

AT&T is about to release the iPhone MMS Update for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users. iPhone Picture Messaging and video messaging will soon be available to iPhone users.

Many people seem to be excited about this update. iPhone users have been waiting for MMS since the launch of iPhone OS 3.0, and it’s about time AT&T releases it. I got a chance to try iPhone Picture messaging early by using an enable iPhone MMS hack. Sending an MMS picture message through the iPhone 3G was pretty easy, but it took some time for it to get sent! I don’t have an iPhone 3GS so I was not able to test video messaging.

MMS on AT&T’s network seems to work fine right now. I hope it doesn’t slow down after AT&T’s update! I’ll be testing MMS after AT&T officially releases it to see if it will still work at the same speed. I’m expecting AT&T’s network to go down! Many people will be using it.

iPhone MMS is coming to AT&T today on iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS 3.1

iPhone MMS is coming to AT&T today on iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS 3.1

iPhone MMS update coming to AT&TAT&T promised that they will bring iPhone MMS to the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS today. They have not announced any specific time, but they have said that it will be at late morning, Pacific time.

Many people are looking forward to the launch of MMS. I’ve searched on Twitter and there are a lot of tweets that people are posting about iPhone MMS. It’s amazing how so many people are looking forward to this service. Of course, MMS is FREE.

iTunes 9.0.1

To prepare for the iPhone MMS update, download iTunes 9.0.1 and make sure your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS is using iPhone 3.1 firmware. The iPhone 2G or 1 G will not get an MMS update! If you still cannot wait for AT&T to release the update, you can enable MMS on iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS 3.1 with a hack, but it may or may not work.  Do you think AT&T will be able to handle the iPhone MMS traffic today? Will you be using MMS a lot on your iPhone? Let us know in the comments.

Will AT&T be able to handle iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS MMS traffic on Friday?

Will AT&T be able to handle iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS MMS traffic on Friday?

AT&T: iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS MMS

Tomorrow AT&T will be releasing Picture/Video messaging aka MMS to iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users. According to AT&T’s Facebook page, MMS will be enabled on late morning, Pacific time, on Friday.

AT&T will be issuing a carrier update through iTunes (not a firmware update) in order to enable MMS. A carrier update file will only be a few kilobytes so it won’t take long for iPhone users to add MMS functionality. Many of our readers have been lucky enough to already enable MMS on AT&T iPhone 3G/3GS 3.1 using a guide I posted a couple of days ago.

Millions of users are expected to be using MMS on their iPhone tomorrow. While many AT&T users are excited about MMS, there are some users who are not excited about this for fear of AT&T’s network slowing or possibly going down. Will AT&T be able to handle all the MMS traffic, or will they go down? Let us know how you feel about MMS coming to the iPhone tomorrow, and whether or not you think AT&T will be able to handle all the traffic.
