Today Apple has officially released the new iOS 5 software update. The iOS 5 download links are below. iOS 5 has over 200 new features including, messaging, notifications, and over the air updates. You can either update through iTunes or download iOS 5 IPSW and update.

The download links for iOS 5 are below. After downloading you can open iTunes, shift-click on Update and select the iOS 5 IPSW file to update.

Steps to install iOS 5 Download

1. Download iTunes 10.5 from here.

2. Download the iOS 5 firmware.

3. Install through iTunes by shift/option-clicking Update and selecting the IPSW file you downloaded.

Jailbreak iOS 5 Download Information

You can currently jailbreak iOS 5 (tethered only, which means you’ll need to jailbreak each time you reboot your device), but no untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 has been released yet. You should wait for an untethered jailbreak to be released.

Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO of Apple

Today is a really emotional day for Apple fans. Apple CEO Steve Jobs resigned from Apple. Apple’s Board of directors have named Tim Cook the new CEO of Apple. Steve Jobs is not leaving Apple entirely, he will still be working in Apple as Chairman of the board.

Here is Steve Job’s letter that he wrote to the board:

To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

iOS 5 Beta 5 Download Links

During the weekendApple released the iOS 5.0 beta 5 firmware update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. iOS developers can download iOS 5 beta 5 from the iOS Dev Center or simply update to iOS 5 Beta 5 software OTA (over the air) by going to General -> Software Updates in the Settings menu.

Looks like we will be seeing an iOS 5 GM release really soon. It seems as if Apple has been releasing all their betas really quickly. Maybe after iOS 5.0 beta 6, Apple will release iOS 5 GM software and then finally release the final iOS 5 once the new iPhone is announced.

The download links for iOS 5 beta 5 are below. You must have an Apple Developer account in order to download.

To install iOS 5 beta 5 using over the air software update, you must first erase all content and settings on your device by choosing Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Over the air software update can be initiated on devices running iOS 5 beta 3 and later by choosing Settings > General > Software Update.

Be sure to backup your devices using iTunes 10.5 beta 4 or through iCloud backup prior to installing iOS 5 beta 5. After installing iOS 5 beta 5, you can restore your device using either iTunes 10.5 beta 5 or through your iCloud backup.

This version of iOS is intended only for installation on development devices registered with Apple’s Developer Program. Attempting to install this version of iOS in an unauthorized manner could put your device in an unusable state, which could necessitate an out of warranty repair.

Devices updated to iOS 5 beta can not be restored to earlier versions of iOS. Devices will be able to upgrade to future beta releases and the final iOS 5 software.

Xcode 4.2 Developer Preview cannot be used to submit apps to the iOS or Mac App Store. Continue to use the publicly released version of Xcode to compile and submit apps to the App Stores.

A pre-release version of Apple TV Software is being provided in order to test AirPlay functionality with your iOS 5 apps.

Xcode 4.2 Developer Preview, iOS 5 beta, iTunes 10.5 beta and Apple TV Software beta are pre-release software and are considered Apple Confidential Information and are subject to the terms of your iOS Developer Program License Agreement. Download Free Skype for iPad to Video & Voice Chat over 3G and WiFi

Today Apple released the free Skype for iPad software. Users can now download Skype for iPad and have video and voice chat over 3G and WiFi technology.

Of course only iPad 2 users can make video calls because only the iPad 2 has a front facing camera while the first generation iPad does not. It is recommended that you use WiFi as it will provide higher quality video calls and voice calls than 3G.

You can download Skype for iPad now from the App Store.

Download iOS 5.0 Beta 4 Firmware for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

On Friday, Apple released the iOS 5.0 beta 4 firmware update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Developers can download iOS 5.0 beta 4 from the iOS Dev Center. What surprised us is that Apple finally enabled OTA (over the air) updates. This means beta testers will now be able to easily update their device without the need of iTunes. If you are currently on iOS 5.0 Beta 3 you can simply update to iOS 5.0 beta 5 software by going to General -> Software Updates in the Settings menu.

From my experience it took 10 minutes to update, but the timing may vary depending on your network connection speed.

Apple just released iOS 4.3.4 software update for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G, iPad 2 and iPad. This new update does not add new features, it just patches the exploit in the easy to use JailbreakMe 3.0 software.

If you are already jailbroken on iOS 4.3.3 then you can simply install PDF Patcher 2 to keep your self safe from the PDF exploit. If you don’t jailbreak your hardware then you can go ahead and upgrade your device to iOS 4.3.4.

iOS 4.3.4 Jailbreak Information

The JailbreakMe 3.0 exploit will no longer work on iOS 4.3.4. There is no reason to update to iOS 4.3.4 as it adds no new features, and jailbroken users can easily patch the exploit by installing the PDF Patcher 2 application from Cydia. iPad 2 Jailbreak LEAKED! — DO NOT DOWNLOAD!

The developer of the iPad 2 jailbreak, Comex was beta testing Jailbreak Me 3.0 –the iPad 2 jailbreak, but unfortunately one of his testers leaked the beta jailbreak out to public and people are already downloading it. You can easily find the iPad 2 leaked jailbreak online, but I wouldn’t recommend downloading it because it could have bugs that need to be ironed out and the files may have been tampered with and may contain viruses as well.

It is really disrespectful and rude of other sites to post leaked downloads of Comex’s jailbreak, especially since Comex spent over 7000+ hours making the jailbreak. It’s like a slap in his face! The leaked download is just a beta, and will likely have bugs that need to be fixed so it shouldn’t be downloaded by any users.

Apparently the leaked iPad 2 jailbreak only works on iOS 4.3, but the official version will support iOS 4.3.3. If you are an iPad 2 user, you should wait for Comex to release the official iPad 2 Jailbreak on his website (JailbreakMe.com). I’ll make an official post here once that’s released. It will most likely be released tomorrow on Sunday.

Skype for iPad Coming Soon, Will Support Video Calling

Skype will be releasing their Skype for iPad application to the Apple App Store really soon. It will support video calling on iPad 2 on WiFi and 3G. Only iPad 2 users will be able to make video calls because iPad 2 has a front-facing camera and the first generation iPad does not.

A video demo of Skype for iPad can be seen below. Skype officially released this on their YouTube channel yesterday and deleted it, but Twitter user @trackizmy1 saved it and sent it to RazorianFly so all credit for the video below goes to him.

CNET got a chance to try the Skype for iPad app and they have posted a hands-on gallery with details of their preliminary test. According to CNET, Skype for iPad will be released on Tuesday, June 28.

Today Apple finally released the iOS 4.3.3 download for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G, and iPad users just like they promised in their recent press release. You can scroll down below to get the direct iOS 4.3.3 download links or update through iTunes. This is a minor update which changes the way the iOS 4 tracking works. iOS 4.3.3 software update has the following changes:

Makes cache size smaller.
Doesn’t backup the cache to iTunes No longer backs the cache up to iTunes.
Deletes Cache entirely if Location Services is off.

[WARNING] If you are on iOS 4.3.3 & you want to retain your untethered jailbreak then do not update to iOS 4.3.3 right now as there is no untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.3 as of this post. If you want to unlock your device or jailbreak iPad 2, then stay away from the iOS 4.3.3 update for now, as it’s just a minor fix.
