If you could connect up to 5 devices at a time using just your mobile phone, how would that change how and when you access the internet?

Connecting at least one device at decent speed to my mobile phone would really benefit me a lot. I have an iPad instead of an iPad 3G so I cannot take my Internet with me wherever I go. If I could use my mobile phone to proide Internet to my iPad (aka tethering), that would allow me to use my iPad anywhere I want and browse the web to read the latest news, reply to an important e-mail, or make a blog post. Sometimes I’m traveling for hours to get to my work, and I know I could get a lot more done with the iPad and an Internet connection on it. I would be able to use my phone’s connection to power my iPad, and get more work done on the go. I can also provide the connection to my netbook because the iPad can be a pain to type on and does not support multi-tasking. I wouldn’t be connecting up to 5 devices at a time to my mobile phone though, because that’s too much, and I wouldn’t carry 5 devices that need Internet on the go. Now you’ve heard my story, but how would that change how and when YOU access the Internet?

My mobile phone is my internet connection, so I feel as if I should be able to tether it to as many devices as I want to access the internet.

Not sure what other devices I would connect to my phone – I guess I don’t even know what I could do…

Due to current mobile internet speeds, I don’t believe the ability to connect 5 devices simultaneously would be very useful. If bandwidth would allow, it would occasionally be nice to stream movies or TV to a laptop.

Also, in my previous life working for a consulting firm, there were instances where it was difficult for my team to get an internet connection at a client site. Having a connection that would support multiple users would have been very convenient in those circumstances.

I already do. Jailbroken iPhone wiht MiFi. I have to show customers web based applications and their networks are always blocked. So, I and my team all long into my iPhone and use the bandwidth. Works great and good speed. Better than other phones’ tethering. We all use my phone at airports, tradeshows and customer sites. Makes my job doable where otherwise it woudl cost much more and be hard to find accesspoints or unblocked networks.

Cowboy, have you had any issues with AT&T telling you that you’re using too much bandwidth? Isn’t there something on the contract that forbids you from tethering? Does myfi somehow hide the amount of data transferred? I want to jailbreak just for myfi but I’m afraid of getting in trouble and being charged with some ridiculous fee.

Hello Lames there is a way like Cowboy said its call MyWi (not MyFi so im correcting Cowboy). use your iphone’s 3g and your iphone send out a wifi signal that you can name and rename. Also creat a secure password. JailBreak only. owwwww. fucc Apple and Steve homo jobs. he needa give the jailbreaker a top seat in the apple iphone section
