HTC EVO 4G Price and Preorder Information

America’s best phone may be the HTC EVO 4G. This is Sprint’s hot upcoming phone that will be officially released on June 4. Android 2.1 is the operating system that will be included on the HTC EVO 4G.

The price of the HTC EVO 4G is $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a 2-year agreement with Sprint. Thankfully there is a way to avoid the mail-in rebate. Just preorder the HTC EVO 4G from Best Buy and you will get an instant discount. It’s important to note that regardless of whether or not you are using 4G, you will still need to pay Sprint a $10 “premium” charge monthly for using the HTC EVO 4G. Why are they doing this? It’s because they expect HTC EVO 4G users to use a lot of data with a phone of this type. It makes perfect sense.

Even with the $10 premium charge, let’s face it Sprint’s plan is still better than the plans that the other major carriers like Verizon Wireless or AT&T offer. The HTC EVO 4G has a front facing 1.3 mega-pixel camera, and a 8.0 mega-pixel camera on the back. It has all the features that any smartphone enthusiast would hope for. In my opinion this phone is the BEST alternative to the iPhone 4G and it may be even better but I have to hold my judgment until I get to try the two.

According to a Sprint Representative I spoke with, the Hot Spot ability will cost $30. So an EVO with a “Simply Everything Plan” will cost $140 per month.

    • Hans says:

The hot spot option is optional.

      • lily says:

true but you do not have to choose the unlimited plan. the 69.99 plan gives you unlimited calling to any mobile provider plus unlimited messaging and web, navigation, 450 towards land lines. so 79.99 for the plan and 30 for internet hot spot is not bad considering most ppl spend $60 a month just on internet.

    • Jerry joe says:

      The plan Everything Data 450 = $69
      Evo premium data = $10
      Hotspot for 8 = $30 (optional)

Total price is $79 ($109 if you want hotspot for 8 devices)
Ill take it for 79! Not bad at all. :)

    • The Dark Lord says:

I am not sure where you have learned how to count Joseph, but 69 + 10 + 30 doesn’t exactly add up to 140, does it? You must be used to overprized Verizon and AT&T and confuse some information here!

      • Tyler says:

No, his math was correct. He was talking about the 100 Unlimited Everything plan. 100 + 10 + 30 = 140

Although, with Any Mobile, Anytime, it is almost pointless to have that plan.

  2. anthony says:

10 dollar charge is a rip off for people that dont have access to 4g service

    • Disgruntled sprint customer says:

Saying the $10 premium charge is not for 4g but for data due to the nature of the pione is dishonest and a rip off to people in the areas where 4g has not been introduced. Sprint is about to mess up again only because it thinks it has found a sure winner.

      • Jennifer says:

Don’t be upset with Sprint. Take into consideration that I have the broadband card that goes into roaming and I made the mistake of downloading songs one month, that dearly cost me. I went over my 5gb allotment. Now with the usage of the TV, music and all of the android download etc we’re going to load on the phone, $10 is certainly cheaper for an uncapped plan vs my 5gb plan right now that costed me over $150 just to download songs and watch youtube. Figure it as “insurance” once your phone roams or 4g hits. I’m soooo glad of the $10 charge, I begged Sprint for a overage fee for users like myself and they didn’t have one in place for me until this.

    • Scott says:

I TOTALLY AGREE, ANTHONY. I WILL NOT HAVE 4G COVERAGE FOR AWHILE ACCORDING TO SPRINT REPS HERE IN LOUISIANA. WHY MUST I PAY FOR IT?

      • jonah says:

Who knows the way to activate an iphone, with Sprint ? I know its possible and I have saw it with my own eyes, but I cant get a straight answer. Can someone help ? Please just tell me !!! Thanks – Jonah

        • Adam says:

It’s not possible, in fact, it’s quite impossible :(

The two networks use two different technologies and frequency ranges (Sprint being CDMA and AT&T being GSM).

      • Rick says:

Your paying $10 for uncapped data usage, at .03 cents a KB thats a life saver. I dont understand why your all so upset when if you have an iphone you have to pay the Iphone add on every month. Sprint’s Evo will still be a good thirty dollars a month cheaper than any AT&T or Verizon unlimited 3G Plan. And when 4g Hits your area, you’ll get unlimited usage, Verizon cant even promise LTE (they”re 4G) Until May 2011!

    • The Dark Lord says:

Feel ripped off by those $10, try Verizon and AT&T, I am not sure what you will feel then!

  3. Alex S says:

This phone is going to rock in so many ways. Even the pricing is great. I have seen people complain about the extra $ for the 4G hot spot feature, but when you compare it to the other carriers that offer hot spots, it is still cheaper for the same feature, and it is 4G!!! And the hot spots are awesome. I already use the Sprint MiFI 2200 for my whole house, it saves me a bundle n the cable bill. 4G speeds will be awesome!
One telling sign is Sprint is not even trying to advertise it because it is getting such a positive buzz from every tech person/ blogger/ mag that has seen and touched it.
I am getting one as soon as I can, my only complaint is I will have the phone before my area has 4G, but that problem will be resolved two weeks later.
As long as Sprint continues to offer improved customer service (And it has improved VASTLY from the former cr4p they used to offer,) Android with this phone and the 4G network is going to really boost Sprint back into contender status.
And to the people who want to argue to wait for LTE, the soonest it is slated to be released is November 2010, if they even make that date, and just like Sprint, the initial release will be in a small market, and slowly grow from there. So be ready to wait a long time.

  4. Alex S says:

OK, first off all do the math. Take some time to compare Sprint’s plans to the other carrier’s plans, then see what they are offering for that amount of $$ they are charging. In the end, the Sprint plan, $ for $ is cheaper, and they are offering more. So you can take jabs all you want, but if you do not include all the details, it is clear you are trying to act like a political pundit to sway your story. (Left, right, indie, does not matter, they all do it.)

I am once again a Sprint customer after dealing with cr4p from all the carriers. At this point with all the facts tallied, I see Sprint and an up and coming contender with Big Red & Big Blue. Plus they have 4G!!!

    • Jorge says:

Actually they aren’t, helps to do a bit research before making those type of statements.
      Unlimited Everything Sprint + Evo = $109.99 ($99.99 + $10)

      Unlimited Everything AT&T w/iPhone 3Gs = $119.99 ($69.99 + $30 + $20)

      Unlimited Family Sprint + 2 Evo = $209.99 ($189.99 + $20)

      Unlimited Family AT&T + 2 iPhone 3Gs = $209.99 ($119.99 + $60 + $30)

Also factor in that your going to need to buy yourself a decent MicroSD Card, which put’s the cost of ownership for the Evo over 2 year contract at pretty much the same if not more than the iPhone 3Gs through AT&T if you go the Family Route…

      • The Dark Lord says:

        Jorge,

Anybody knows these days that Sprint adds free music/radio, TV, Navigation and more for the same price. Now if you want to make a fair comparison, try to add up those as well. As far as I remember is just the navigation already $10 a month.

And then the Unlimited iPhone 3GS you show here has only unlimited phone and data. I do not think you added the unlimited plan for texting in there. But even if so, AT&T drops calls all the time, has absolut shitty costumer service and has really no good phones other then the iPhones. The EVO comes out, I will so dump my iPhone for it. No more dropped calls! Steve Jobs is pretty stupid and arrogant to just stay with AT&T. Loosing lots of customers soon. Competition is not sleeping and not as slow as Apple!

        See ya Steve

        • Jorge says:

I’m switching from AT&T to Sprint as well, but that’s not the point I was trying to make. The iPhone is a strong device, and a well made device, and I would love to stay with the iPhone if let’s say for example it was on Sprint. That being said, I don’t think iPhone is on a whole other level compared to the newer andriod phones, but I get a kick out of all these people like to call every new Android phone that comes out an ‘iPhone Killer’ … Imagine if iPhones were available on all Networks, lol.

I am getting the HTC Evo, because I think it’s a nice device, but I think it’s just a bit lame that they are charging this extra $10 month, when less than 20% of the Sprint Customers even have access to 4G, and if that’s not what the charge is for, than I think it’s a bit pathetic they like to sell it for this amazing deal of $199, when it’s actually almost $450 for the Phone.

Also, check out the fine print on the MIR for the HTC Evo, it’s quite funny.

          • Jennifer says:

The $10 gives you unlimited data vs 5gb data….believe me, it’s going to be a pocket book saver!! I’m a Sprint broadband customer and a Alltel/Verizon cell phone, going to convert all the way to Sprint, customer speaking out. Pay the $10!! Figure it as insurance. Or two fast food lunches per month. It’s well worth it considering the data that you will use on the browser!!

          • Dawn says:

I predict that you need to stop complaining for someone who is getting the phone. The extra $10 is warranted. The plans are still cheaper than Verizon and AT&T, which like the other person mentioned you didn’t factor in all the extra AT&T charges you for like texting and navigation which is already included in Sprint’s plan. And as a far as iPhone Killer…the iPhone is already dead. It doesn’t matter if it comes out on Verizon or not. The iPhone loses because of its lack of Flash, lack of removeable batteries and having to send the phone in when the battery does need to be replaced, lack of insurance offered by AT&T, lack of removeable memory and the list could go on. The only reason I haven’t sold mine is because I have yet to find a reasonable replacement for iTunes but trust there is no crappy AT&T service on it and it doesn’t get used outside of music because my Incredible DOES! iPhone sells because there will always be fanboys who refuse to accept that there are phones out there that simply pass the iPhone even if the phone transformed into Optimus Prime and did the robot. This EVO is going to make a nice addition to my Incredible and 4G is everywhere I go. Can’t wait and I will gladly pay $10 4G or not.

        • Reed says:

Why isn’t anyone else besides me complaining about the call waiting tone I hear from others on our Iphones. How annoying is that when we have to ask each other who is getting a call or have to look at the phone to see???? ATT and Apple continue to deny this is even an issue! Can’t wait for June 4th!!

      • depacon says:

Unless you make a lot of calls to landlines, going with the Sprint 450 min Everything plan for $69.99 is a better choice. This plan includes unlimited calls to anymobile (yes, that includes AT&T, Verizon, & T-Mobile), unlimited data & text, and bunch of other features for FREE (or $69.99). Are you sure you can get two Iphone onto a family plan at AT&T? I think you have to get two separate individual plan if you want two iPhones.

      • Chris says:

Most of what you said is true, but I would say that for the majority of Sprint customers the Everything Data plan is more than enough to cover their needs, which is $69.99 so + $10 for the Evo it’s only $79.99 for most customers (going to be $69.99 for me since I’m on the SERO plan). Also the Evo is a better phone in every way compared to to the iPhone 3Gs and in most categories better than the iPhone 4Gs as well. Also the Evo comes with an 8GB MicroSD card, so unless you really need a lot of storage and plan on buying the 16GB or waiting till the 32GB one comes out, it’s going to cost less for the average Sprint customer owning an Evo than for the average AT&T and Verizon customers owning almost any phone.

      • shawn says:

we have the Everything Data Family – with Any Mobile, Anytime + 1500 min with 5 phones

3 blackberry phones and 2 moments

$129.99 for the first 2 phones + $19.99 for each line

        ($129.99 + $59.97) = $189.96

        + we get a 25% discount (our employer) -$47.49

        total
        $189.96 – $47.49 = $142.47 divide that by 5 people

$28.49 each unlimited data + any mobile calling + unlimited text and we hardly ever use half of our 1500 anytime minutes because we mostly call cell phones!

even if we were to get the EVO 4G it would be $38.50 a month

can your AT&T plan do that with an iPhone??? i think not

BOTTOM LINE SPRINT IS A WAY BETTER DEAL PERIOD

  5. king tut says:

RadioShack has the evo for preorder also, it’s also $199 for new or upgrade, and you get a $20 accessory credit. No MIR… they bought some old phones and MP3 players from me and it was worth not having to ebay…

  6. mhphone says:

I have an iPhone currently and can’t wait until the EVO is released. AT&T and Verizon better get their LTE up because this is going to be huge for Sprint, not only because of the EVO but because of the awesome 4G service. It has been over 15 years since I’ve been on Sprint, but I’ll be surely coming back June 4th. I already have my pre-order reserved at Radio Shack.

  7. Greg says:

I went to my local Sprint store and the rep told me that the $10 fee for 4G is not mandatory and you only pay if you want 4G not to mention there is no 4G in my area (San Diego)

  8. Jeannie says:

How do I go about getting this phone and a service plan in Juneau AK???
