HTC EVO 4G on Sprint: Best iPhone 4G Competitor, First US 4G phone
HTC EVO 4G will be the first 4G phone in the US. This is the best iPhone 4G competitor, and I think it is even better than Apple’s upcoming iPhone 4G. June 4 is the date Sprint will be carrying the HTC EVO 4G.
The price of the HTC EVO 4G is $199 with a 2-year contract and a $100 mail-in rebate, which can be avoided by purchasing this phone from Best Buy. One of the key advantages of the HTC EVO 4G over the iPhone 4G is that it has an actual 4G network, which has faster speeds. The mobile hotspot feature on the HTC EVO 4G can provide connections to over 8 devices.
Specs of the HTC EVO 4G include 8.0 mega-pixel camera on the back, 1.3 mega-pixel camera on the front, and a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Once it’s out, the HTC EVO 4G will definitely be the best alternative to the iPhone 4G.

The $30 tethering fee is not really cheaper than a broad band card if you think about it. The Overdrive allows you to support 5 computers full time. The EVO has tethering capabilities but CAN NOT TALK and Transfer DATA at the same time. When you are using the EVO as a “hotspot”, you can NOT use it as a phone so if you really think about it… you’re paying $140.00/mo + taxes and fees for a broadband card. ($99.99/mo Simply Everything Plan + $10 EVO FEE + $30 “hotspot” fee = $140/mo) Verizon provides this hotspot capability on the Palm Pre Plus (supports up to 5 computers) for FREE. Their plan is actually $20/mo cheaper than sprint.
$69.99 Unlimited Talk to land or mobile + $20 Unlimited Text Messaging + $30 Unlimited Data Plan = $120/mo
Either way folks, we are all SPRINT customers here on this board. We all want the EVO. We ARE all on the same team. We should be focusing our anger at Sprint for gouging us not directing it at each other with statements like “deal with it”, etc… We are having an academic and ethical discussion/debate on the ethical or unethical behavior of Sprint in gouging us loyal Sprint customers. Let’s stay focused and fight for our rights not for corporate greed.
I agree with John, Sprint customers are loyal despite having some of the worst selection of phones, and not upmost quality service. We deserve some respect for our loyalty to Sprint from Sprint. If this phone is great I would love to own it and continue my contract with Sprint but not if once they get a decent phone they gouge us, because I am not satisfied with Sprint at all, and I have been a Sprint customer since 2001 and before that I was a Sprint customer from 1998-2000. But in the past three to four years I have seen Sprint drop the ball in many respects to phone selection, customer service, and phone service. I hope they get better really. But everyday the iphone looks better and better.
