Letterman pokes fun at person who lost iPhone 4G

iPhone 4G

Talk show host, David Letterman recently poked fun of the Apple employee who lost his iPhone 4G. During his show Letterman said, “This guy, I hope he doesn’t lose his job but does this affect my life? Well no it doesn’t affect my life at all. It’s just an idiot, he’s drunk and he drops the thing.” For those of you who don’t know the story, an Apple employee left an iPhone 4G hardware prototype with iPhone 4.0 software in a bar because he was drunk and his iPhone 4G got stolen. That Apple employee’s name is Gray Powell.  Powell’s iPhone was stolen by someone and sold to a popular technology blog, Gizmodo. Gizmodo dissected the entire iPhone 4G, took videos, and posted it online for everyone to see. Unfortunately for Powell, Gizmodo found out he owned it and they revealed his identity and also put his job in jeopardy.

Whether or not Apple fired Powell for losing his iPhone 4G prototype, we don’t know. It certainly has created a lot of buzz on the web though and given Apple free press for their upcoming iPhone 4G in June. According to CNet, Powell’s father has told them that he doesn’t believe Powell will be fired. Do you think Powell deserves to be fired, and do you think it was right for Gizmodo to post the leaked iPhone prototype online?

I would say its NOT worth being fired over, It’s not going to do much but build anticipation and calls to Apple and AT&T for the phone.. Who says it being leaked early is a bad thing?

Gizmodo didn’t put Powell’s job in jeopardy by naming him in the article. Apple knows who has their prototyps and if one didn’t come back the next day, they would notice. Think about it.

Um this is apple leaking their own hardware, really do u think apple would allow someone so irresponisble to take an iPhone home with them, I’m sorry this is a huge publicity stunt, and it’s working, in fact I think the tech site got screwed by paying $5k for it…being that well when the thing comes out it will be like $400 and it’s only a premature leak of about 3 months, big whoop….Apple good job on making this look like a “suicide” mission…believe me apple knows what they are doing….

well ..its a conspiracy. Apple wants their Iphone 4G to be leaked , then collect those bad comments and advise, Design a better one.

Its about time someone says the truth!!!! This is all apple’s plan. Damn man, why are ppl not picking up on this? Its a hoex! Made to look so legit that ppl buy into it and when the 4g is released they will sell more phones….

All I gotta finish with is, duh!

I think Gizmodo might find themselves in some trouble for purchasing a knowingly stolen phone should Apple choose to pursue a legal battle. I mean it it’s a crime to possess stolen property just as much as it is to sell stolen property. And if Apple is willing to bring up a stupid lawsuit against HTC it’s highly possible.
