This fake virus hit my business computer, with thousands of wedding and portrait photo files, high-end software. The software has been disabled and we've had to re-install, but Sony software still will not run. It's been two weeks now and my computer is still screwed up and I can't get any video work done on it. I am now removing Bit Defender, installing the OS again and installing Norton.
The most frustrating thing is Bit Defender's lack of communication. If my license were about to expire, the program would hound me to death to renew starting a month before the date. But I have yet to get an email from them offering a fix or compensation. This product stinks and I will never recommend it. It has cost at least four days of lost time.

Had the same general symptoms as everyone else.

It was stated that this was only a problem with BitDefender 2010. Not true, I am running a 2 yr version of 2009.

I did all the usaul things and gave up. Booted up 24hrs later to re-immage, EVERYTHING was fine. Have not seen any symptoms or problems since, 1 wk ago.

John - ditto me, exactly. Eventually, I figured to turn off real time scanning - now of course I cannot use that computer to surf. I was able to send most quarantined files back to where they came from. I am done with Shield Deluxe of course, but now worried that if I change to Kaspersky as planned, it will detect all those false positives and quarantine them again. I have BD's 2009 patch for this, but afraid to use it, because my AV is Shield, not BD, even if AV engine is same. Any luck? suggestions? solutions yet? email pmdwyer@earthlink.net?

Please put me down for the compensation for those who were hurt by the "Trojan Fake Virus 5" that got through your wall and resulted in the destruction of my Sony VAIO. My hard drive was so damaged I could not even reinstall the recovery discs. I kept getting an error on all options. My machine is with Best Buy's Geeks right now. They are already into my pockets for near $100 and will likely hit me for more.

OH, YEAH!!

Hit me Sat and I have restarted three times -- almost didn't get it to work tonight but finally did ... each time I had to restore to an earlier date ... Call technical support who were no support ... asked them to send me the fix via email and I would work it myself ... they said they would call back in 10 minutes ... no call back

Not real happy ... when I first installed several months ago .. they were going to do it by controlling my computer but after two hours told them never mind ... downloaded the software myself and was up and running in 10 minutes.

I agree they should provide a refund for posing malware/viruses

Would of been nice if they would have sent us an email to let us know of the problem and when the fix would be in ... anoter disappointment

I can't make backups using a USB flash drive, DVD-R, or through Rapidshare. I can't install any programs, and anything I save doesn't appear in Windows Explorer. I have very important files that I cannot afford to lose, so my only option now is to wait until a fix is released. LAME!
