Trojan.fakealert.5 has affected many
Just how many people were recently affected by the trojan.fakealert.5 software issue with BitDefender 2010? Right now this is the 11th most popular search term on Google, so many people have obviously been affected by this. Unfortunately BitDefender has not come out with an update to fix this issue yet, and many people have reported having issues with using their computer since this caues BitDefender to disable files that are not viruses.
No fixes have been issued by BitDefender yet, but they will be available through automatic updates once it’s resolved. If you were affected by trojan.fakealert.5, feel free to share your experience in the comments.

omg please fix this asap!
The problem is also with Bullguard, even though ive disabled the anti virus many of my systems important files were quarantined and then deleted. My only option now is to reinstall windows and every programme – F You bullguard and Bitdefender, youve given my computer the worst virus its ever had and I paid you for it.
I have been affected with this Trojan a couple of hours back. Please let me know if there are any solutions to this problem .
my computer isn’t deleting stuff, maybe cuz my Bitdefender is cracked :p haha i laugh at u all ;p ;p ;p ;p ;p ;p ;p :P :p :p :p
I too had to reformat my computer! BitDefender basically tried to wipe out all of my dll files on the entire drive. Nothing was left to run. I tried to call them but the phone connection was very bad.
This whole mess has cost me the best part of a day to sort out! I’m one of many people running a 64-bit verison, which appears to be the affected version of bitdefender. At first I had no idea what was going on, I just saw a string of Trojan.FakeAlert.5 messages appearing in the corner of my screen. At the same time I was trying to open WordPad. Windows reported an error, and that WordPad was no longer there! I made the critical mistake of shutting down my computer, and that was that. Windows couldn’t boot anymore. I know know this is because bitdefender managed to “Quarantine” important system files. I think all Bitdefender users would have been better off with an actual virus, this ****-up is the worst computer attack I’ve ever experienced. Bitdefender STILL have no message on their main website warning users about this issue. Someone, possibly many, should be fired over this.
Luckily, I was able to do a System Restore during reboot (I shut mine off) and that took care of the problem. Bitdefender issued an update correcting the problem and I am up and running again. I do kind of wonder if a disgruntled employee sabotaged the update. This could happen to any AV program. I also wonder if they run the updates on their own computers to evaluate them before releasing them. If they don’t, I bet they are now.
Yes. Got the Trojan.FakeAlert.5 this morning. Disabled my entire operating system!!! What the hell? Finding any answers on the Bit Defender website is like looking for a needle in a haystack! I spent the entire day, reloading Windows 7, MS Office and such. What a pain!
I am switching to a different antivirus program, and I’m demanding a refund from Bit Defender for the remainder of my subscription!!! So pissed off!
How am I supposed to get auto-update to rectify the problem if Bitdefender quarantined itself?
yes also got this f-er trojan. locked me out of every program and could not get online. did a system restore and ran bit defender… and the trojan is back! is this for real? if this is bit defender’s fault, wow! am i pissed off. can i sue? isn’t this what we’re supposed to be protected against?
I Restored my computer to an earlier time in SAFE MODE. But before it rebooted I disconnected the internet. Then once it was booted up I turned off the automatic updates for the antivirus program. So far so good. Give it a try.
In Christ alone I place my Trust.
**** you bitdifender you made all of my comuters delete my data on my network i will never use any of your product as of NOW!!!!!
guys i got the virus as well, and i fixed it…..
i am using windows 7 64-bit
i restarted my computer tried to logon again and it didnt work due to missing files, so i restarted again and pressed F8 to bring the choices and i choosed to fix my computer, then i ran system restore, i chose an older date, which was on the 16th of march, and it started the system restore but gave me an error, i ran it a couple of times more at the same date (16th of march) and it gave the same error, then i restarted having hope that it would sign in with no problems, and it did, and gave me a message “Your system restore is completed successfully”.
so try it everyone and tell me your results
Please stay updated on the patch at patch that will restore BitDefender update files and retrieve the correct signatures. You should be able to restore the quarantined files after installing the patch. The patch will be available on the forum topic: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=18789 or on this support KB article http://www.bitdefender.com/site/KnowledgeBase/consumer/#638
Thank you, again, for your understanding!
I also had this issue today. I tried the same things as above and it worked for me. I have 64-bit windows 7. Not only were vital system components quarantined, including windows explorer :/, but after rebooting I could not log on. To any account. I logged into safemode (f8 while rebooting) and rolled back to an older restore point (start menu, accessories, system restore). After the computer restarted I disabled internet access and bitdefender live protection. Every thing seems to be working. Am getting ready to update bitdefender and see if problem is resolved. Wish me luck!
This happened to my 13 year old son who followed all the instructions that Bullguard told him to on screen (he is 13) and it wiped almost everything. We have had to restore to factory setting.
Good luck everyone else. Bullguard are saying that this is what you should try and it worked for us;
‘At this moment, our recommendation to deal with this problem is the following:
1. Double-click on the BullGuard icon in the system tray and open the console.
2. Choose the Antivirus plugin and then turn it off.
3. Next, go to Quarantine section in order to recover your files.
4. Select all the files in the list and click on the “Move back” button.
5. Update BullGuard and then turn the Antivirus back on.’
We had to reactivate Windows as well, but now all seems okay.
fingers crossed
Chris
I have suffered the same fate here. The worst thing was when I switched to a standby hardisk, it too was disabled. The whole system wiped out. Can I sue bitdefender for this? I am installing everything back and it’s not a fun thing to do. Your bad system is causing me loose my client and probably have to pay for not completing on time. I mean can i sue bitdefender? Especially if i’m living in Malaysia?
hi yes having the same prob. luckily have another pc/laptop using itnernet on that, cant use my keyboard or mouse on my infected computer so is basically rendered useless thanks alot bullguard, will not be using you anytime soon.
Wow that really sux try and do a system restore sorry to hear that guyz hopefully it will be resolved and they should pay for what they did pce 2010
Damn that sucks for you guys. I use SEP.
