Use your iPhone with Verizon

It comes to no surprise that many of our readers here don’t like AT&T and would rather prefer to use their iPhone on Verizon. Unfortunately Verizon operates on a CDMA network, so the iPhone needs to have a CDMA chip to work on Verizon. There would need to be a new iPhone, the iPhone 4G for this to happen. While this may not be happening any time soon, you can still use your iPhone with Verizon if you want by following the steps below.
How to get a “Verizon iPhone”
The goal of this tutorial is to get your iPhone to work on the Verizon Wireless network. Thankfully, you can do this because iPhone supports WiFi. Verizon offers a product called the MiFi (link here), which is basically a device that serves as a hotspot and allows you to connect up to 5 WiFi-enabled devices to Verizon’s network. You will only get Internet access on your iPhone if you use this, but you won’t get any phone service because the iPhone doesn’t have a CDMA chip! The good news about this is that you can still download VoIP apps like Skype, and use your iPhone like a phone on Verizon’s MiFi service. Plans for the MiFi start at $39.99/mo. so this is definitely a cheaper alternative to AT&T if you don’t use your iPhone as a phone much but need Internet access on-the-go.
- Get the MiFi from here.
- Connect to your MiFi, just like you would with any WiFi hotspot. You can do this by go to Settings -> WiFi and selecting your MiFi network.
- If you want to phone, download a VoIP app from the App Store, like Skype.

wow, that sounds amazing!
but the $39.99 mifi plan only includes 250MB of data.
what happens when i go over?
verizon supplies a sim card for those people that want to use thier blackberry’s overseas,… just a thought, but couldn’t this verizon sim be used to make the iphone work on verizon in the US?
just a though

Not at all. The radio technologies are still incompatible; the Verizon SIM is just for dual CDMA/GSM phones that Verizon has.
WTF how will be cheaper it’s only 250 MB u will pay 70 with AT&T unlimited data and 400 minutes no only 250MB and u still can use voip calls for free and talk much as u want come on man get a life before I used be so respecful for this site now not at all please look for some better things
This is the dumbest thing ever. If you want to get verizon just go with a verizon phone or wait until there is a CDMA version. Doing this is not practical. I can find a way to say I live in a castle by walking up to one every day and sleeping on the grass in a cardboard box too… (smh)
Didn’t Cnet.com shoe this tutorial a while back? But in video form?
hi i am patel this is garbage
Why not just use the iPod Touch in the same manner? A little cheaper than the iPhone, and no ATT contract at all.
Hello right
It’s way easier than that. Buy the iPhone at best buy. Then go to a verizon store..
done . they’ll set it all up for you
not bad…
@Jimmy
you idiot. go buy an iPhone at best buy and take it to a Verizon store yourself. After their sales staff finishes laughing at you hysterically; they’ll explain why the iPhone doesn’t work on their network. Quickpwn writes the most bullshit articles now a days with bold headlines like “USE AN IPHONE ON THE VERIZON NETWORK” just to get idiots like Jimmy to read them, even though the article itself is a two-bit useless piece of garbage. Find some legitimate news, gentleman, this site has gone to crap
I feel bad that someone actually took the time to write this, I feel even worse that I took the time to read it, now I need to make myself feel better by writing this. AT&T DATA Plan is $30/mo unlimited, MyFi is $40/mo for $250 MB. It sounds like a big pain in the you know what, Why would I not just carry around a small netbook. Unless you REALLY have a boner for Verizon this is worthless.
wow this is the dumbest thing ive seen all day! awesome!
Wow I just jerked off to this
