Jailbreak and unlock iPhone 3.1.3
Today the iPhone 3.1.3 update was released to iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch usres. This update includes mainly bug fixes. If you would like to jailbreak or unlock your device, you must read this. If you have an unlocked iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS do not update to this new firmware, updating to the iPhone 3.1.2 firmware will permanently update your baseband. The newer baseband does not support software unlocking.
The jailbreak has not been released yet, but you if you’ve got too much time on your hands you may be able to jailbreak if you try the following. If this works please share your results in the comments.
How to Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3
1. Update to iPhone 3.1.3. After updating, find your iPhone 3.1.3 IPSW file or download it using any of the links below. Remember, don’t use Safari to download. Safari can’t download .IPSW files properly, use a different browser!
If you are having trouble downloading the iPhone 3.1.2 firmware through the iTunes Application then you can directly download the appropriate firmware for your device by downloading iPhone userbar and clicking Downloads button and then downloading the appropriate firmware:
- iPhone 3.1.3download (iPhone1,1_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw, 241 MB)
- iPhone 3G 3.1.3 download (iPhone1,2_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw, 242 MB)
- iPhone 3GS 3.1.3 download (iPhone2,1_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw, 306 MB)
2. Download jailbreak from iPhone toolbar (only works on Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer)
3. Follow the jailbreaking guide at the Jailbreak iPhone 3.1 post.
Unlock iPhone 3.1.3
It’s possible to unlock iPhone 3.1.3 but only if your baseband has not been updated to 05.11.07 or the newer baseband, you must create a custom firmware that uses the 04.26.08 baseband. The iPhone 3.1.3 update updates the baseband to a newer one that permanently blocks the software unlock. A guide on how to unlock iPhone 3.1.3 will be up once a jailbreak tool is released.
For now, follow downlolad iPhone toolbar and you’ll receive an alert once it’s released.

I have a 2g iphone and I accidentally updated it to the 3.1.3 firmware and now it’s locked and stuck. I’ve tried everything, including redsn0w. I heard that it is possible to jailbreak and unlock with the 3.1.3 if I have the 2g since it’s an older model, but I have no idea how to do it. Does anyone know? Please help!!!! I really need my phone to work!

I had the above problem… I restored the iPhone using the 3.12 firmware and was able to jailbreak and unlock. Google to find places to download the firmware, then shift-click on Restore in iTunes to choose the 3.12 file. From there you’re good to go.
Hi Brendon, I tried the t all of the above, but when I choose 3.1.2 file it tells me that it’s not compatible, do you have anything else to add by any chance, thank you in advance…

Must be a lot of accident prone people. I did the same, or similar. My iphone was rebooting into the pineapple over and over, and nothing would stop it. I tried everything I could find and even restore, but the only restore that was offered was to update to 3.1.3. Is it possible that apple pushes an exploit that caused this to brick jailbroken iphones so they owners need to update to the new version and baseband?
I tried ih8snow and sn0wbreeze and redsn0w and even blackra1n to rejailbreak, to down grade to 3.1.2 and nothing worked. I am now stuck without out all my jailbreak apps which I paid for, and NOT ONE was stolen or cracked. I only bought the phone once I knew I could use it as it was designed (as a computer that I could load what I wanted on it – all legal (comment to morons who insist jailbreaking is to steal software)).
I am waiting for the hashim exploit to rejailbreak, or is that to unlock?

I’m stuck with the same thing. Used blackrain to jailbreak then somehow it went into recovery mode one night and had no choice but to restore with apple firmware. Check cydia to see if ur hash marks r on file with them. If so u should be able to roll fw back to 3.1.2 supposedly

If you have an iphone 3g on 3.1.3 w/ 5.12.01 baseband.. currently it can only be unlocked by the very earlier-made iponhe 3g..who have bootloader 5.08… to figure out if you have this ( only a few limited iphone 3g are 5.08 most are 5.09).. look at your serial number… if the first 2 digits are both numerical.. its 5.09.. if one is alphabet and one is numberical look at the 3rd character THIS NEEDS TO BE AN 8, if it sn’t you’re out of luck… and finally the 4th and 5th look at them as one.. they need to be 40 or less.. if not sorry.. you have the 5.09 and you’ll need to wait for the official 3.1.3 5.12 unlock software to come out.. if you fall into the right category and have 5.08 bootloader.. jailbreak using redsnow ( point it at 3.1.2 frimware when u browrse) then go to cydia and download ” fuzzyband ” and you can downgrade your frimware to 4.26 or 5.11 i believe.. if 5.11 use blackra1n to unlock.. if 4.26 use ultrasnow to unlock..and you’ll ahve a unlock iphone 3g at 3.1.3
this will jailbreak any iphone 3g with f/w 3.1.3
1. download iphone 3g 3.1.2 ipsw
2. open itunes connect iphone hold shift key while pressing restore button in itunes then choose the 3.1.2 f/w we have just downloaded
3. once you have started to restore near the end it will crash and say something like unable to carry on just close itunes
4. download quickpawn22.1 and install
5. run quickpawn and follow instructions
6. now you have downgraded from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 you can install cydia and jailbreak !
Does that work on both PC and Mac?
Will this work even if I did not install cydia shsh prior to the upgrade to 3.1.3?

thats a negative, gives the “firmware error string” failure.
on second notice, after quickpwn hung on that error, I just closed quickpwn and restarted the device since it was sitting in recovery. When it came back up, it was in fact at 3.1.2 from 3.1.3 The blackra1n installer worked properly now (failed when i was on 3.1.3) so yes this procedure seems to have worked. Just put cydia and rock on the phone, test time.
Unfortunately, after I imported my contacts, all the apps/icons are gone. Back to the drawing board. Factory reinstall time.
