iPhone 3.1.3 05.12.01 baseband unlock imminent, Sherif Hashim discovers exploit
Just a week after Apple released the iPhone 3.1.3 update, Sherif Hashim has discovered an exploit that could allow iPhone users to unlock their iPhone on the iPhone 3.1.3 firmware on baseband 05.12.01 and use it with other carriers like T-Mobile in the US, for example. We get these a lot, but no the iPhone can’t be unlocked to work with Verizon because Verizon operates on a CDMA network. Apple always updates the baseband with each update, causing many iPhone users to loose their unlock so this is good news for the iPhone users that had their baseband updated and lost their unlock.
For now, download iPhone toolbar (works on Windows/Mac on Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer browser) and you’ll receive an alert once the unlock is released, and instructions on how to install it.
The exploit Sherif Hashim uses has not been revealed yet, but iPhone Dev Team member MuscleNerd has confirmed that it works. The iPhone Dev Team will most likely wait for Apple to release the next generation iPhone 4G before releasing this unlock so that Apple does not patch the exploit before then. For now, all iPhone users that are unlocked/jailbroken are advised to be extremely cautious of future firmware updates and avoid updating before the jailbreak tools are updated.

ok so i have the Iphone 3GS 3.1.3 05.12.01 and i had it jailbroken with Spirit and a few days ago i lost all my service. i think maybe ATT found out that i jailbroke it and blocked me? i have my sim in another phone but i want my iphone back. anything i can do? should i take it into ATT or what? and is there a way i can unlock it to have it work with a prepaid sim?

i AM WAITING AS HELL FOR UNLOCKING MY IPHONE 3G 3.1.3 , 5.12.01 WITH BASEBAND 6.04 WHICH GOT LOCKED THE 2ND DAY I BOUGHT IPHONE 3G BECAUSE OF MY OWN STUPIDITY :-( IMAGINE GUYS I HAVE NOT USED IPHONE EVEN A SINGLE DAY AND I AM WAITING FOR UNLOCK FOR 2 MONTHS ALMOST.
Is this the same Baseband as in Beta Firmware 4.0? Cause i accidentely used the 4.0 beta firmware of a friend to restore my 3.1 iphone 3g and now i can not unlock it. This is horrible. Is the 4.0 beta using the same baseband as the 3.1.3 so it would also solve my problem?
Hello guys.. there is a asian guy that you can find thru craiglist. he unlocked mines.. I have no idea how, but he did. It took him about 15 minutes and he opened the back of my iphone and he unlocked it. He charged me 50 bucks and I gladly paid him. It is working well now. It is on 3.1.3 05.12. 01.

All factory unlocked iphone’s can be be unlocked on 3.1.3 new or old boot rom. Just connect your phone to pc via usb, open itunes and u can just activate iphone with your local sim card. It works i have done it to a factory unlocked iphone 3gs on e.1.3 firmware baseband new boot rom.

If you understand how the unlock process works, you can clearly understand why it has not been released yet. Do a little research guys.
If you’re still really worried about it, I will gladly take the 3G/3GS phone off of you. It’s not worth much since you were dumb enough to upgrade to 3.1.3 5.12, so I’ll only give you $100. We have to do the deal before 4.0 is released though, because after that it will be totally worthless :)

I agree everyone posting complaints about Dev Team with things like ‘bet they don’t have it’ is being dumb. I’m waiting too for the unlock so I can put my 3G to use. In my case though, the upgrade was done before I even got the phone.
So you may want to consider before you label everyone a ‘dumbass’.

haha I can’t wait almost here. My father had said I “broke” the iPhone when I just accidentally updated it -.-. Only reason why he keeps bugging me about when will it be fixed… was because I am giving him the phone LOL. I bought a broken iPhone with a working motherboard on craigs for 25.. now I just don’t know what to do wit it LMAO. Anyways! Dev Team is awesome. People just don’t understand they are holding out so their exploit won’t be wasted on silly updates and will be used wisely for the iPhone 4g!

you have to get the phone activated by using a at&t sim card (has to be at&t), what I did was go to ebay and bought a sim card for $6, then jailbroke the phone with the at&t sim card still in the phone with spirit. Still waiting for the unlock to come out in the next few days.
