The top ten gadgets on our holiday list
Gadgets | Hans | December 11, 2009 at 11:11 pmWith the holidays coming near, many of us will soon be buying gadgets or receiving them. Below is a list of ten gadgets that are on our holiday list.
1. iPod touch

The #1 gadget I would recommend for anyone is an iPod touch. The iPod touch is touch screen, and runs on the iPhone OS software. It’s not only an iPod, but it’s also a great pocket computer and a gaming system. Unlike it’s competitors, the iPod touch has a lot of great apps available to download through the App Store. If you can afford the iPhone 3GS, we recommend you to get it because it has a noticeably faster speed, a microphone, and because there are cool iPhone apps that won’t work on an iPod touch.
2. Motorola Droid

If you’re on Verizon and looking for a smartphone, we would definitely recommend that you get the Droid. The Motorola Droid uses Google’s Android 2.0 operating system, and is the best phone running it. The key features of the Droid include true multitasking, themes/widgets, a big 3.7″ screen, 5.0 megapixel camera, a decent virtual keyboard, and a QWERTY keyboard. The Droid also has over 10,000 applications available in the Android Market. Unlike it’s competitor, the iPhone, Droid will be getting Adobe Flash Player support in 2010.
3. Amazon Kindle

What if you could take your entire library with you wherever you go? What if you could order and start reading the book you want in less than one minute? The Amazon Kindle can do this, and more. It is a sleek eBook reader that weighs just 10.2 ounces, lets you download books, newspapers, magazines, or blogs from the Kindle store and has PDF support. There is also a text-to-speech feature in which the Kindle reads the books out loud to you, if you want. The battery life on the Kindle is one week with wireless on and two weeks with wireless off. The Kindle uses A&T’s 3G network, which is available for free to us to download from the Kindle store.
4. Windows 7

Okay, so Windows 7 is not a gadget but it is used in many gadgets and deserves to be on this list. Microsoft released their Windows 7 operating system this year, and got a lot of positive reviews. We love the operating system, and the sleek Aero interface. The main feature we like is the new taskbar which allows you to do many cool things like pin a program to the taskbar.
5. Asus Eee PC netbook

If you are the type of person that travels around a lot and wants to mainly surf the Internet, watch videos, or do some lightweight work then you should get an Asus Eee PC netbook. We liked the Asus EEE PC 1005HA-PU17-BK which comes with Windows 7,has a 10.1 inch screen, 10.5 hours of battery life, and most importantly a 92% full-size comfortable keyboard.
6. Zune HD MP3 Player

If you like to listen to music and don’t want to get the iPod touch, we recommend you get the Zune HD MP3 player by Microsoft. The Zune HD has a great design, has applications and games available, and also has an internet browser powered by Internet Explorer. The interface on the Zune HD is very nice and easy to use.
7. Palm Pre

If you don’t like the iPhone, or the Droid then we recommend you get the Palm Pre which is currently available on Sprint only in the United States. The Palm Pre runs Palm’s webOS software which supports multitasking, is multitouch and has pinch-to-zoom enabled, has a great web browser, and has applications (but not as much as the iPhone or Droid). The Palm Pre will support Adobe Flash early next year, unlike the iPhone which won’t.
8. magicJack

If you are paying too much for your phone bills, and want a cheaper solution you might like magicJack. magicJack is a device that allows you to make calls using your computer. All you do is buy a magicJack, plug in your home phone into the magicJack and plug the magicJack in to the USB port on your computer, and you can start talking. The only catch is that you must pay $19.95 per year.
9. PSP Go

If you like to play video games, the Sony PSP go is a great portable gaming system. Everything can be downloaded from the PlayStation Network, without the need of any discs. The The PSP Go is also 43% lighter than the PSP-3000 and also has a TV-out socket which allows you to view content on your TV screen.
10. Verizon MiFi 2200

If you have multiple gadgets that require an Internet connection through WiFi, the Verizon MiFi can serve as a WiFi hotspot and can be used anywhere you go (wherever Verizon has coverage). If you travel a lot, and use gadgets that require Internet connection via WiFi you should get the MiFi.

Motorola Droid! DO VERY WANT!
Unfortunately for me, a Canadian citizen, I’ll have to wait until “early 2010″, whenever the hell that really is, for the Milestone version to be released here.
I’ll be waiting! :D
I’d also love to get my hands on an iPod Touch. My 80gb iPod Video (5g) needs replacing, and the wonderful touch screen and apps for the iPod Touch look quite enticing. :)
Personally I believe there are a few other gadgets out there that could have easily topped a few of these, but altogether, great list! :D
Palm Pre? Now thats a joke right!
Your a joke.
please learn proper grammer, people do read what you say
Sorry mom…
Okay, serious guys. That’s. You’re. Grammar.
Fail.
excuse me, but are you retards?
Why would you pick the Amazon Kindle over the Barnes & Noble Nook?!? There’s no competition.
How about make the nook faster and fix the lockups/crashes some have reported? The reviews also indicate it is a bit glacial. All these appear to be software problems. Once they fix these problems it will be a worthy competitor. The UI could do with a bit of too.
Instead of Magic Jack just download Skype for free and pay way less to make calls to computers and phones. Magic Jack, pffff
