blackra1n RC2 jailbreak
Two weeks ago, Geohot released his blackra1n iPhone 3.1.2 jailbreak. The blackra1n jailbreak software worked with all iPhones and iPod touches running on iPhone 3.1.2 firmware except for the newer 8GB iPod touch (MC models) that Apple released after the September 9 event. The blackra1n jailbreak also did not work on the newer iPhone 3GS which Apple patched the 24kpwn exploit in. blackra1n RC2 works with all iPhone and iPod touches, but the newer iPod touch and iPhone are only tethered jailbreaks. Tethered means that you will need to run blackra1n each time you reboot your iPhone or iPod touch.  If you were an iPhone 3G user, you most likely had to try many different methods to get blackra1n to work. Geohot has fixed the iPhone 3G problem so blackra1n should now jailbreak without any problem.

If you already did jailbreak your iPhone or iPod touch, you don’t need to use blackra1n again.

Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 with blackra1n RC2

Here is how you can jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 firmware using blackra1n RC2.

1. Download blackra1n RC2 (Available for both Windows & Mac)

2. Follow the steps at my jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 post.

blackra1n on Windows 7

blacka1n: Windows 7

I tried blackra1n on Windows 7, but it crashed when I first tried opening it. To get blackra1n to work on Windows 7, do the following:

1. Right-click the blackra1n icon and click properties.

2. Click the Compatibility tab.

3. Under compatibility mode click the box to enable it and select Windows XP (Service Pack 2). Click OK, and then run blackra1n.

I’ve only tried this on a Windows 7 32-bit setup, but it should work on a 64-bit setup as well.

Please Help!!!!! I’m new at the jailbreak process and have successfully Jailbroke my iPhone 3GS 3.1.2 using windows vista 64bit. I’m not sure if this is normal but after doing the jailbreak I power off (reboot) and it always goes to the DFU mode showing the iTunes and the usb cable. I believe this is in recovery mode and when iTunes opens up it says that I need to restore to factory settings. I did this the first time and had to do the jailbreak all over again. I then figured that when that screen comes on I close iTunes and make it rain again and everything I did and installed is still there. Now, do I have to make it rain everytime the device reboots or the battery wastes and it powers off? Like I said I don’t know much about this so if someone can help me understand what to do or show me what I’m doing wrong it will be greatly appreciated. My email is j.p.italy@live.com please send an email because it will be easier for me. Your all awesome with help I’ve been getting with other issues and questions. Thanks all.

hi i just want to ask. i jailbroken my iphone 3g successfully with blackra1n, and repo it already with hackulo, i was able to install apps smoothly but does it automatically mean i can put any types of sim cards too? cause i travel a lot and im gonna need to use different network carriers in different countries.thanks would really appreciate the help.

    • dirty Dobb says:

No in order to use a sim card in diffrent countries you need to unlock the iphone. The good news is that blackra1n came out with RC3 which hacks 3.1.2 and baseband 5.11.07. Just install balckra1n and then sn0w. Then you should be good. Go to the new tutorial about 3.1.2 and 5.11.07 to get the lastest news.

Today I got a 3Gs iphone from AT&T (I have a contract with AT&T) and did the update on 3Gs with iTunes only. Now it’s Version 3.1.2, Modem Firmware 05.11.07, Carrier AT&T 5.6… ( I didn’t use any Custom Restore Firmware) I Jailbreak the 3Gs with Blackra1n and installed Cydia… I did a reboot to iphone and Wala la!! It’s Done! Works fine..
