Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2
The iPhone 3.1.2 update that Apple released last week required users of jailbroken iPhones or iPod Touches to wait for a new jailbreak software to be released before updating. There was no jailbreak available until Geohot released his new blackra1n 1 click jailbreak software. The blackra1n software is available for both Windows and Mac users, but it only supports iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch. blackra1n does not support the iPod Touch 3rd generation 8 GB models that have a MC in the model number. Many iPhone 3G users reported having a problem with blackra1n on iPhone 3G, if you were one of them please leave a comment telling us what problems you encountered and how you solved them. I will be making a blackra1n troubleshooting guide to help users that have any problem with it. You can jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 with blackra1n, but you cannot unlock iPhone 3.1.2. To unlock iPhone 3.1.2, you must use PwnageTool 3.1.4 which the Dev-Team recently released.
If you want to just jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 I recommend you use blackra1n, but if you want to unlock then you have no choice but to use PwnageTool which only works with Mac. If you haven’t already downloaded iPhone 3.1.2 or updated, the download links for it are below.
- iPhone 3.1.2 download (iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, 241 MB)
- iPhone 3G 3.1.2 download (iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, 242 MB)
- iPhone 3GS 3.1 download (iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, 306 MB)
Note: Do no’t use Safari to download iPhone 3.1.2 IPSW files, instead use another browser. Safari downloads this as a .ZIP and iTunes is not able to recognize the firmware that way.
Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 with blackra1n
2. Click the make it ra1n button.
3. Your iPhone or iPod Touch will reboot once blackra1n is done doing it’s thing and you should see the blackra1n icon on there. If you don’t see the blackra1n icon, go to the last page on your iDevice and you should see it.
4. Install your preferred aplication from the blackra1n app. You have the option of choosing Cydia, Icy, or Rock. I don’t recommend you to install them all at once, because that may cause problems. Install them one at a time.
Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 with PwnageTool
1. Download PwnageTool 3.1.4 (only works with Mac!)
2. You will be creating a custom IPSW and then restoring it through iTunes. If you don’t know how to do that, read my jailbreak iPhone 3.1 with PwnageTool post which gives step by step instructions.

Hy. I have a new iphone 3g 3.1.2. I jailbroke it with blackra1n and it worked fine. I installed cydia and rock with no problem but i can’i install any cracked app with itunes. It says ‘ itunes can’t install the package because it’s not signed.’ somebody can help me?

you need to fix the installd file on your iphone ,
it needs to be replaced and the permissions changed
How do you go about fixing the Installd files o. The iPhone and setting the permissions on the computer? I opened the cracked apps with ifunbox and dragged the apps onto my desktop. Then from my desktop I dragged into ituNes. iTunes recognized the app file and then i tried installing the cracked apps onto a jailed iPhone. It seems like the apps were being installed but when the sync finished, I got errors from iTunes saying they cannot be installed. Tried authorizing the apps; that didn’t work. What’s setting permissions about? Do I set permissions in the iPhone with ifile or set the permission o. The computer then drag to iTunes?
Download “AppSync” from Cydia.

When i downloaded blackra1n it worked fine but when my battery died I had to restore my iPhone 3gs and lost all my music pictures contacts the whole lot , where did I go wrong any advice please.

ONce you have jailbroke your iPhone you will need to do your best to keep it powered up. Each time your battery goes or you power down your iphone and turn it back on it will show the itunes logo. Connect your device to your pc and then itunes will open saying it has detected an iphone in restore mode and you have to restore. press the red “x” to close this message and then close itunes. You will then need to “make it rain” again to come out of restore mode and everything will be fine.

I had the same problem . When I installed blackr1n I jailbroke
the I phone 3gs with 3.1.2 software.everything worked fine until the phone had to be rebooted for an application to be installed. When the phone get rebooted it went to recovery mode. I had to restore my iPhone with iTunes to factory setting.
This blackr1n has a problem don’t install it becase if you reboot you have to do everything again.
Its a tethered jailbreak every time you reboot your phonw you have to run black rain when its in recovery mode.(Itunes screen)

fixed on my phone 3gs, re-jailbreak with black rain when the itunes logo appears, your fone will then boot as normal :-)
does that means u need to have your computer with you all the time? since you can’t reboot ur phone without running blackra1n again? admit it, it’s a bug
‘Jobs’. To say that any function of a hacked program is a bug is ridiculous! These developers are circumventing security measures to bring you a phone without all the pointless restrictions. It’s not a bug because the phone has it’s own boot procedures that just can’t be changed. And look how easy it is to fix! Just plug it back into your computer and run blackra1n again… big deal!! You get all this nice stuff for free and you’re complaining… not only that, but you’re trying to tell other people that it’s a bug! No, you don’t have to bring your computer with you all the time, you just have to not run out of juice in the batteries dumb-dumb. If you can’t handle that for whatever reason and the batteries do die, all you have to do is wait a couple hours to get back to your computer. Is that so bad? No, it’s great actually. Nice and easy. You’re just a big whiny baby!

i keep getting the itunes logo with the USB pointing towards it when I jailbreak my phone. it gets me through everything, lets me install Cydia, but then reboots and gives me this crap. 3 times now, and i am doing it exactly as it says. have the 3gs phone with 3.1.2
any ideas?
i have the same problem with islquest. jailbreak my 3gs phone with 3.1.2 and after installing cydia the phone reboots with the itunes logo with the usb pointing upwards and have to reinstalled the os from itunes ??

I tried jailbreaking my Iphone 3GS with firmware 3.1.2 and it worked fine but when I downloaded any apps from cydia or rock and then rebooted my phone it got stuck on the apple logo turning on. I had to try and put it in recovery mode myself and then restore it.

i have the iphone 3gs and ive restored factory settings soo many times now and still it wont let me put blackra1n on my iphone… any ideas and i have already had it on there just never had any reception. thanks
Look everyone, I am just as pissed as everyone else is about iBoot being patched.
My day 1 3GS vibrated itself off a counter yesterday at work and shattered. I am now a proud owner of a re-furbed and tether-broken replacement iPhone. Brings me back to old redsn0w 0.7 issues with my 2gPod.
No one has found an exploit since the November release of 3.1.2 and any new iPhone 3GS has been patched and will only tether jailbreak with blackra1n. It works perfectly, just plug your phone in, open blackra1n and click “make it ra1n” and the phone will reboot to at least safe mode, and to previously jailbroken state (all settings intact but springboard layout may jumble, especially if you have a complex layout, use “springback”).
The down=side is yes, you must start your phone with your comp {or any other iTunes computer) with blackra1n installed.
To answer the question about app syncing: Yes the installed file must be patched. Hackulous offers a patch for every fimware. AppSync for OS 3.1 will work for firmware 3.0-3.1.2. Install this package and sync away.

I had a jailbroken 3.1.2 blackra1n (5.11.07). i reboot it and it entered into the White apple of death boot up/re boot cycle. when i tried to use itunes to restore got the msg “this device isnt eligible for the requested build”
THIS IS HOW I FIXED IT, after about 20 attempts.
first i ran pwange too1 3.1.4 on my mac and did not install cydia or icy. then i ran blackra1n on my win7 box. then ran blacksn0w, i had a at&t sim in until i ran blacksn0w and then i put in my tmobile one. extra info i added the host saurik host line to my win7 box and in itunes when i ctrl clicked to restore i hit cancel every time it asked to check with apple until it did not ask.

bought my iphone yesterday, jailbroke it this morning, all works fine, no issues at all.
using appsync for my downloaded apps and not had any issues around permissions, actually no issues what so ever,
The down=side is my iphone with my pc with blackra1n installed. (as stated above), i can live with that though!

I tried jailbreaking my new Iphone 3GS 32g with firmware 3.1.2 (05.11.07) with blackra1n.
During jailbreaking my iPhone was stuck in recovery mode. I was trying many times to restart blackra1n. And also I did try to restore with iTunes to 3.1.2 ,it’s giving me every time the same message “This device isn’t eligible for the requested build”. So i stuck I recovery mode. Can u help me please, what I shoul do?
