Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2
The iPhone 3.1.2 update that Apple released last week required users of jailbroken iPhones or iPod Touches to wait for a new jailbreak software to be released before updating. There was no jailbreak available until Geohot released his new blackra1n 1 click jailbreak software. The blackra1n software is available for both Windows and Mac users, but it only supports iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch. blackra1n does not support the iPod Touch 3rd generation 8 GB models that have a MC in the model number. Many iPhone 3G users reported having a problem with blackra1n on iPhone 3G, if you were one of them please leave a comment telling us what problems you encountered and how you solved them. I will be making a blackra1n troubleshooting guide to help users that have any problem with it. You can jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 with blackra1n, but you cannot unlock iPhone 3.1.2. To unlock iPhone 3.1.2, you must use PwnageTool 3.1.4 which the Dev-Team recently released.
If you want to just jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 I recommend you use blackra1n, but if you want to unlock then you have no choice but to use PwnageTool which only works with Mac. If you haven’t already downloaded iPhone 3.1.2 or updated, the download links for it are below.
- iPhone 3.1.2 download (iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, 241 MB)
- iPhone 3G 3.1.2 download (iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, 242 MB)
- iPhone 3GS 3.1 download (iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, 306 MB)
Note: Do no’t use Safari to download iPhone 3.1.2 IPSW files, instead use another browser. Safari downloads this as a .ZIP and iTunes is not able to recognize the firmware that way.
Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 with blackra1n
2. Click the make it ra1n button.
3. Your iPhone or iPod Touch will reboot once blackra1n is done doing it’s thing and you should see the blackra1n icon on there. If you don’t see the blackra1n icon, go to the last page on your iDevice and you should see it.
4. Install your preferred aplication from the blackra1n app. You have the option of choosing Cydia, Icy, or Rock. I don’t recommend you to install them all at once, because that may cause problems. Install them one at a time.
Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 with PwnageTool
1. Download PwnageTool 3.1.4 (only works with Mac!)
2. You will be creating a custom IPSW and then restoring it through iTunes. If you don’t know how to do that, read my jailbreak iPhone 3.1 with PwnageTool post which gives step by step instructions.

so like most of us i have had the same problem with my iphone. I downloaded black rain and tried to download an ap from cydia and it asked me to restart when i did it left me with the cord and arrow and and itunes icon. Im trying to get everything back on my iphone. i cant seem to get out of this mode any ideas?

To anyone having the restart issue, it isnt an issue as the blackra1n is a tethered jailbreak meaning when ever you turn off or restart your phone you will need to ‘re jailbreak it’. you arent doing your phone/touch any harm nor are you losing any of your settings etc.
I’m having trouble with the blackra1n program. I get the conformation notice asking if it was the easiest jailbreak then the pop up window for blackra1n says done, waiting for reboot. I’ve left my phone plugged in for over an hour and nothing happened. So I restarted the whole process over and manually restarted my phone and when it powers back on I still have no blackra1n icon. What am I doing wrong?? Please help!!!
Hi all.I got an iPhone 3gs which is factory sim unlocked (legally) from network carrier here in Qatar. D problem is,I cannot use my skype voice calls due to 3g restrictions. I can only use the voice call if I’m connected via wifi. I want to use my skype voice without wifi only using my Internet broAdband sim. My friends told me to jailbreak my phone first before I can use 3g unrestrictor. My question is, is this correct? Do I need to jailbreak my phone first? Thanks for your help.
Yes there is a thing you can download and install after you jailbreak that fools your phone into thinking that 3G is slow wi-fi. But since you have a 3Gs you’ll need to connect to a computer and run blackra1n every time you turn it on… hassle. good luck.

Im a bit scared because i really want to jailbreak my Iphone 3Gs and i dont want to have to keep on “making it Ra1n” everytime i turn it off. If anyone has any problems and if so mention if it is a 3g or 3gs and the way you fixed it.

I just installed Blackra1n on my 3Gs. Im doing a factory restore due to having no wifi access, said wifi was on, but I was not connected. So I am trying again, but am going to look for something that doesnt need to be run eachtime I turn my iPhone on.

no i used blackra1n on my new 3g iphone 3.1.2 firmware no hassels no lost info contacts etc…dont freak out when you see the iphone doing the blackra1n just let it run its coarse then reboot instal cydia then seach for third party apps in cydia like cycorder (movie recorder)and other great apps that you wont find in the apple store….hope this helps
i JB my 3gs 3.1.2 with RC3 and everything went fine, i downloaded Cydia and Rock and also downloaded some applications. one of the app needed a reboot. i re run blackra for but now i am getting the picture and then the phone is shutting off.

HI i Jb my 3gs to . i bought on ebay and now how long will i have to make it Ra1n. anyone will post a new way so when i reboot i dont have to make it ra1n again. its not very good way.
I tried blackra1n again and again and it didn’t work (it couldn’t send it into recovery and yes I tried all the process-killing and the home-button holding but it just wouldn’t). so I got Sn0wbreeze. it built the .ipsw file but I kept getting an error off iTunes when I tried to install it. So then it wouldn’t boot so I had to restore to old normal 3.1.2. Then tried Blackra1n again, seemed to work; rebooted..but gave me cord to iTunes, Blackra1n saying ‘running’. If I leave it the screen goes blank (light still on; not off but blank) and I get a message saying you’ve jailbroken please donate. So I go woohoo. I saw no frodo but whatever. I still have my screen blank. It isn’t rebooting, but blackra1n is telling me to wait for it to reboot. Basically, it never reboots automatically, I have to do it manually. And it isn’t jailbroken. Help me please!?
Update: I had to downgrade to 3.0 + redsn0w. 3.0 is fine, but blackra1n really should work… if anyone has any ideas please comment I want to upgrade to 3.1.2
My Iphone 3gs successfully completed jailbreak and everything works fine until I power off and on my Iphone 3gs, it didn’t power on at all and I got to restore it. I tried twice following exactly every steps recommended here but it just didn’t work out.

Hi, do you know if this works for the itouch 3.1.2 version. i know that sounds srtupid because its in your title, but i wanted to make sure. To the point, my itouch was already jailbroken (by my friend so i dont know if he used rain) but i installed the update and now my cydia and stuff is gone. Just wondering if everything is still the same. Oh, and i picked dont send to apple. Does it only work for the iphone or is it compatible to the touch too?

Ok – bought a new 3Gs and tried to use blackra1n.
I have 3.1.2 os on it but my model number is “MC”, and I just saw (somewhere on the web, and Geo saud it) blackra1n will NOT work on MC models.
Is there a fix or should we just wait until Geo can jailbreak the mysterious MC model?
Or are we just hooped?

It pisses me off when people get pissed off at me when i say mine doesnt work. i have an 8g iphone 3g, ive had it since Nov of ’08, ive done EVERYTHING that EVERY site has told me to do but it just goes to the screen with a cable and an iTunes logo and nothing else. if theres some phones that just cant get jailbroken, please tell me so i can stop trying. its my 8th time restoring this BS.. sry for being impatient but if someone could help me out, itd be greaaaaaaaaat.. thanks
when the screen comes up with the itunes logo and a usb pic plug ur iphone into ur comp. and run blackra1n. then just wait and it should respond.
Hi everyone… if your using blackra1n on an Iphone 3G with 3.1.2…you connect the phone.. u go to your task manager and close any process’ related to apple itunes quicktime etc.. then open blackrain.exe hit make it rain… as soon as the phone shuts off hold power and home..when the apple logo appears let go of power and keep holding home until the blackra1n logo comes up…after a couple minutes you should be able to slide and unlock it…worked on the first try, hope that helps anyone!
