The iPhone 3.1.2 update that Apple released last week required users of jailbroken iPhones or iPod Touches to wait for a new jailbreak software to be released before updating. There was no jailbreak available until Geohot released his new blackra1n 1 click jailbreak software. The blackra1n software is available for both Windows and Mac users, but it only supports iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch. blackra1n does not support the iPod Touch 3rd generation 8 GB models that have a MC in the model number. Many iPhone 3G users reported having a problem with blackra1n on iPhone 3G, if you were one of them please leave a comment telling us what problems you encountered and how you solved them. I will be making a blackra1n troubleshooting guide to help users that have any problem with it. You can jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 with blackra1n, but you cannot unlock iPhone 3.1.2. To unlock iPhone 3.1.2, you must use PwnageTool 3.1.4 which the Dev-Team recently released.
If you want to just jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 I recommend you use blackra1n, but if you want to unlock then you have no choice but to use PwnageTool which only works with Mac. If you haven’t already downloaded iPhone 3.1.2 or updated, the download links for it are below.
- iPhone 3.1.2 download (iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, 241 MB)
- iPhone 3G 3.1.2 download (iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, 242 MB)
- iPhone 3GS 3.1 download (iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, 306 MB)
Note: Do no’t use Safari to download iPhone 3.1.2 IPSW files, instead use another browser. Safari downloads this as a .ZIP and iTunes is not able to recognize the firmware that way.
Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 with blackra1n
2. Click the make it ra1n button.
3. Your iPhone or iPod Touch will reboot once blackra1n is done doing it’s thing and you should see the blackra1n icon on there. If you don’t see the blackra1n icon, go to the last page on your iDevice and you should see it.
4. Install your preferred aplication from the blackra1n app. You have the option of choosing Cydia, Icy, or Rock. I don’t recommend you to install them all at once, because that may cause problems. Install them one at a time.
Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 with PwnageTool
1. Download PwnageTool 3.1.4 (only works with Mac!)
2. You will be creating a custom IPSW and then restoring it through iTunes. If you don’t know how to do that, read my jailbreak iPhone 3.1 with PwnageTool post which gives step by step instructions.

Once jailbroken and unlocked how do I get my contacts, store apps etc back? Will using itunes restore brick up the phone?
Is this update ok to do on 2G with baseband 04.05.04_g?

No, Go ahead and use the most resent back up of your phone, it will not un-jailbreak it.
I have a Ipod 3g and Im trying to jailbreak it cause its with ATT I was wondering am I able to use Tmobile instead of ATT???
so i downloded the jailbreak like i was supos to and the i ran it on my windows it went threw everything then it said “done waiting for reboot” but from there it hasnt move its been like 30 mins..
When you get the ‘waiting for reboot’ msg, unplug the phone then plug it back in again – this should complete the action.

I downloaded blackra1n and when i open the file it just takes me to my itunes and does nothing after that.
No window appears which says ‘make it ra1n’.
In relation to the above comment i left i forgot to mention that i had my iphone jailbroken before the 3.0 update. After i updated my iphone to 3.0 i did not bother with re-jailbraking it.
Would the reason be that nothing appears on my itunes or no window opens up saying ‘make it ra1n’ due to the fact that my iphone isin’t already jailbroken?

I had a previously jailbroken (with PwnageTool) iPhone 3G with a contract through AT&T. Today I jailbroke it again with PwnageTool 3.1.4. I unchecked “Activate phone” and didn’t go into DFU mode since it was already jailbroken. Everything seems great, it works, I made a phone call on it… but next to my signal strength, it does NOT indicate my network (doesn’t say AT&T, E, or 3G). What’s up? Can I fix this???
everytime i go to download blackra1n, my computer gives me this error message “the procedure entry sqlite3_procedure_v2 could not be located in the dynamic library SQLite3.dll” does anyone know what this means and maybe how to fix it?
I have ran this blackra1n program about 30 times. The first time I ran it the icon showed up on my iphone, but no other programs such as cydia etc…. so i deleted the icon and tried again. since then I can’t get the icon to show up on my Iphone! HELP!
ur suppose to tap the icon on the home screens or the next empty space and check install cydia. then tap install. it should take abround 2 mins
blackra1n unlocked my 3.1.2 iPhone easily but I have no carrier. “No service” displays. I tried several SIMs, rebooting and even restoring (that locked back the phone). Any help?
I have a iphone 3G firmware 3.1.2. i tried to jailbreak using blackra1n and it gave me a error message saying “blackra1n.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly, Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.” Please help thanks.
oh yeah, i forgot, i came up with a theory if your ipod gets stuck on the reboot park when using blackra1n, try to have itunes running before you start to jailbreak it. hope this helps.
