Today the iPhone 3.1.2 update was released to iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch usres. This update includes mainly bug fixes. If you would like to jailbreak or unlock your device, you must read this. If you have an unlocked iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS do not update to this new firmware, updating to the iPhone 3.1.2 firmware will permanently update your baseband. The newer baseband does not support software unlocking.
The jailbreak has not been released yet, but you if you've got too much time on your hands you may be able to jailbreak if you try the following. If this works please share your results in the comments.
How to Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2
1. Update to iPhone 3.1.2. After updating, find your iPhone 3.1.2 IPSW file or download it using any of the links below. Remember, don't use Safari to download. Safari can't download .IPSW files properly, use a different browser!
- iPhone 3.1.2 download (iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, 241 MB)
- iPhone 3G 3.1.2 download (iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, 242 MB)
- iPhone 3GS 3.1 download (iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, 306 MB)
2. Download redsn0w.
3. Follow the jailbreaking guide at the Jailbreak iPhone 3.1 post.
Unlock iPhone 3.1.2
It's possible to unlock iPhone 3.1.2 but only if your baseband has not been updated to 05.11.07 or the newer baseband, you must create a custom firmware that uses the 04.26.08 baseband. The iPhone 3.1.2 update updates the baseband to a newer one that permanently blocks the software unlock. A guide on how to unlock iPhone 3.1.2 will be up once a jailbreak tool is released.

There's nothing wrong with that -- there's no risk involved, you can always just restore the device with DFU mode or recovery mode.

If it came out of the box ready and unlocked then it's factory unlocked so you can update to any software
(But if it came out of the box ready and the seal was already destroyed than someone unlocked it using unofficial tools like PwnageTool or something...
Meanwhile isn't baseband 5.11 downgradable as long as you have 5.08 bootband or somethin using Fuzzyband
I have a 3Gs 3.1 with the new 05.11.07 which unfortunately I haven't been able to find a solution. I've tried anything I find on the web and still "nada." If anything has a clue of how to unlock it please throw me a bone. I don't mind JB. I just want to have A phone. Thanks! I'll surely share my findings as well.

not actually replying to you, but I'm just bumping as I'm also curious. In the past I've had extreme difficulty downgrading, period. If downgrading from 3.1 to 3.0 on the 3gS is possible, I'd be surprised, but delighted. I mean I imagine it's possible somehow but I wasn't aware of a solution yet.

It probably wouldn't work, especially if the dev team said so, but for iPod Touch users, trying won't harm anything since you can just restore, and there's no baseband things to worry about.

After working all night, I successfully jailbroke broke my phone from the new 3.1.2 firmware.

This process takes a lot of time. I used the newest version of pwned, 3.1.3. Here are the step by step instructions on how to reflash the band and firmware.
I used a 2g iphone, so I needed to download the bl-39 and bl-46 bin's. I also downloaded the 3.0 iPhone update.
First, I but my phone into recovery mode, and I updated to the newest iPhone firmware, 3.1.2.
Secondly, I opened pwned 3.1.3, and I selected the expert mode setting. Then I clicked on the iPhone that I had, which was the icon to the left.
Next, on the browse IPSW section, I chose the 3.0 iPhone update .ipsw file, and it brought me to the next screen.
I chose "general", and I unclicked the update baseband update. I also set my Root Partition size to about 1 Gig.
At the next section, I clicked on update bootloader, and I checked the downgrade to 3.9 option.
I didn't really care about the Cydia options, because I really just wanted to get the phone to work, so I just skipped all of that.
The next section, I unchecked the Icy box, and I proceeded to the next checkpoint.
Click next on the icon details, and it brought me back to the original menu destination, which I clicked on "build" and moved on.
Pwned asks you where you would like to save your custom build, and I just selected my desktop.
This process takes a while, so I just fell asleep, and I woke up to it finishing the save/write process.
It asks you to put the iphone in DFU mode, and it then instructs you to go to iTunes, and manually update your firmware.
With my mac, I pressed option and clicked on update, and it asked me what file to use. I chose my custom config, and it took about ten minutes to reformat.
If you have a lot of patience, it will work perfectly.

3.1.2 is not the end of updates, I'm guessing. I'm sure Apple is working on another release as I'm typing this. The iPhone OS has been a live staging platform, with the users as testers for Apple. It seems the tools for windows JBrs are slowing down. Updates are coming faster then the hackers can keep up with. I just hope geohot's exploit(s) works and works for a while. I know there are many teams and people JB the phone at there home that doesn't use Dev Tems exploits. I know I have been doing my own once I figured out my own tricks and exploits. Has anyone else JB there phone without the Dev Teams easy to use software? (by the way awesome job dev team!)
yes, but there has yet to be a 3.1 windows jailbreak, remember for 3.0 it was only a week apart, not nearly a month. And for people like myself w/ the 3G we don't plan on unlocking, all we need is the jailbreak, I about ready to downgrade and just stick to 3.0.1 until I find a 3.1 custom att ipsw.
I tried this with a 3G(S) which came straight OOTB with 3.1 (damn). I applied the update and attempted this. The logic that doesn't sit with me is why you would need the 3.1.2 IPSW if no where in either tutorial you actually need it. Am I to rename the 3.1.2 IPSW to 3.0 for redsnow and then rename it back to 3.1.2? I don't get it but BlackRa1n, as far as I know, is due in the next couple days so I'll wait for that. Just my 2 cents.
I accidentally updated my jailbroken iphone to the new 3.1 update or whatever it is. all the apps crash when you open them so i restored it and cannot get the jailbrake to reinstall. I tried redsn0w and quickpwn. do i just need to wait for the new jailbrake to come out?

I m desperately awaitng for this... yesterday was the firs time i tried to learn how to upgrade, and unfortunately since the latest was the 3.1.2 software, i errenously restored my phone on the same.. i have a edge one which is why i used the iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, now all i see is a usb cable sign pointing to itunes, when i go to itunes it says that my Sim is not supported, i am completeley trapped, now as i understand since my phone is restored on iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, only blackra1n can help me, please let me know if there are any other work arounds... There is actually a jb for windows on fw 3.1 . My iPhone 3g is on 3.1 and is jb'ed . Ih8sn0w is the way untill sn0wbreeze or blackra1n comes out . All u really need is the custom fw and just restore to it .

I just used blackra1n to upgrated my 3GS 3.1.2 which never been jailbroken before. It worked the 1st time with just a click, very easy and simple to follow instruction. Great work by Geohot.

try putting the iphone in airplane mode before start blackra1n if it gets stuck on running screen the sollution is simple:
force restart your iphone (menu button and sleep button)
without getting the cable out of your iphone and run it again, this time it wil work fine.

Before I jailbreak the iphone 3.1.2, I have already jailbreak to 3.0.1 with the baseband 05.11.07 update. Yesterday, I tried to jailbreak iphone 3.1.2 by using the iPhone1,2_3.1.2_Custom_Restore_Cydia ipsw file download from the website . This is how I do it:-
a)Open iTunes 9.0
b)Do a back up by sync it.
c)On the left hand side, choose the phone and do a restore by pressing shift + restore together.
d)Select the iPhone1,2_3.1.2_Custom_Restore_Cydia ipsw file and let the iTunes do the rest of it.
e)Once it is done, I can see the version change to 3.1.2 with the Cydia appear on the springboard.
Now my iphone is jailbreak and unlock to 3.1.2 with the latest baseband 05.11.07. I'm using iphone3G(8GB) which is an unlock version in my country.

I am using AT&T so iphone 3G(s) is locked. I upgraded OS to 3.1.2 hoping that the usual jalbreak/unlock will work. Now that I slipped to this narrow hole, I am eagerly looking to see if someone comes up with an unlock mechanism.

Since I already have an unlocked 3G phone, why I jailbreak the OS 3.1 using the custom 3.1 ipsw file download from the website,it can be jailbreak but cannot unlock. Does it meant that the custom ipsw file that I download is not suitable for me to unlock it.
The baseband 05.11.07 I accidentally update it from the iTunes, does it meant that the latest baseband is only affected to those who have an locked iphone. Too bad that I do not have the locked version iphone to test it.

I have noticed that when I jailbroke my iPhone 3gs I used a powered USB hub and it worked excelent but when I used the same port for my wifes 16gig 3g it did not work. So I pluged hers into my mac key board it worked fine. The jailbreak process for the 3gs was soo much faster. I was wondering is there any real problem with the 3g. As apposed to 3gs? Well anyway I would like to thank geohot for this resolution. It seems that this is the only way that I can get tethering back using pdanet. Kinda sad that I have to use it but hell I'll take it anyway. So thank you geohot and dev team for making my life easier for me to get on line with my acer a150 with os x 10.5.7 installed... Ha love apple...so you can call me Adam... LOL

i updated my iphone 2g in itunes by accident and it updated my baseband, i then had the restore mode come up after reboot and only allows me to do emergency calls. I then had to go back to basebane 4.5 which i used redsnow to restore firmware 3.0 and baseband 4.5 so if you update to 3.1.2 on a 2G you can downgrade and go back to a wroking phone and then, update the firmware without the baseband upgrade.. i was so relieved.. good luck..

I accidentally did "erase all contents and settings"
Felt like an idiot after doing so but then I restored through itunes to the latest firmware (3.1.2). Does this not mean that my phone should have been LOCKED again?
But no, when i restored it, i popped in my fido sim (its a rogers IPHONE) and low and behold it worked.
Now, I have jailbroken it again, so I have a Jailbroken and unlocked one running on the latest firmware and newest baseband 05.11.07.
How is this possible???

How does one update the firmware without upgrading baseband too?
I bought an Iphone 3g with 3.1.2 today from someone off Craigslist who kept his ATT sim card. I didn't want to use it as a phone right away and was going to wait and unlock it when the software for that came out. Anyway, I tried to synch Itunes to mine, but it didn't work so I stupidly restored the Iphone. Now I just have the emergency phone screen available and it tells me to insert a valid sim. What can I do? Is it enough to buy a $20 sim card? Do I have to pay for a 2-year plan? Pay ATT to reactivate or unbrick the phone? I don't even know if it's bricked or not. Suggestions please. How did you update your phone accidentally? You have to download iTunes 9, installed it, download the firmware and update the firmware when asked in iTunes.
All of that are base on your choice!
As for your iPhone, hate to break this to you but the baseband on your phone has been altered permanently. For now there's no way to downgrade your baseband or exploit it and it looks like there will be months before there's any solutions available. You should check on the Dev Team website for updates but I doubt they will come up with anything in the upcoming months.
Good new is that you can use blackra1n to jailbreak it so you can use it as an iPod Touch or you can sell it to an ATT user and look for another iPhone with a lower baseband.
Since you are with ATT, ultrasn0w does not applies to you therefore you can use Pawnage Tool to jailbreak it. Visit the Dev Team website for more detail.
Again with the accidental update! There's no way you can accidentally update it, you have to go through several steps to get it updated and all those steps require your approval!
Your baseband has been altered permanently! Redsn0w only KEEP the baseband and update the firmware! It does not downgrade the baseband!

By jailbreaking you mean you want to use Cydia and free Apps?
If you already updated your phone through iTunes to 3.1 and want to use other carriers other than ATT, YOU CAN'T!
Your baseband has been altered permanently! There's no fix for this and it will be like this for months.
But if you just simply want to use crack Apps and Cydia then you can use blackra1n to jailbreaks your phone since you are already on os 3.1.
You will have to wait a very long times. Minimum 6 months! Use blackra1n to turn ur phone into an iPod Touch but as for a phone it cannot be use on any carriers except ATT.

ok guys, if, like me you have updated the baseband and think you have bricked your iphone. You need to force restore it back to an older ipsw, ie 3.0. everything you need to know is here:

itunes restores it to the old firmware and baseband and so after that u will need to jb and unlock, but this time it should work. all apps etc get deleted so if you didnt back up then you will lose all you contacts etc. Basically you iphone is like a new one.

This info is for those who upgraded for 3.1.2 without knowing unlocking is available and now iphone is useless for them...I am no expert...but what i tried worked for me...
-open itune
-connect phone
-press power button and home button
-phone will go to boot mode itune will ask for restore
-then it will show if you want reset
-click cancell and do the restore normally by clicking shift + restore button...but restore to 3.0
then unlocking 3.0 using redsn0w...
you iphone will work...again

Tried already 4 times to jailbreak my iphone. Program stays running but does nothing. When I take out the connection cable programs says, jailbraiking done. There is no program installed on the iphone.
Is there a specific procedure to do?

Did originally update to 3.1.2?? Did it change your firmware to 05.11.07??? I try downgrading to 3.0, but it gives me an error message (1015). Stops when it is trying to restore my firmware. Well... I accidentally upgraded to 3.1.2 and there was no way I could unlock it...
So I did the above...on the locked status, do not connect i phone to computer...just open itune...then connect the phone..as soon as you connect...click power button, hold it and press home button twice and keep on holding both together...do not release the buttons...that will take you to restore mode...if doesnt work, first try again...
then it will say your phone is ready to restore...but for that first have 3.0 version firmware downloaded...coz 3.1.2 is not gonna lead you anywhere as there is no unlocking available yet for windows.
when it says reset all to factory setting and install latest firmware...click cancell...you will already be on iphone home page on itune..then press shift + restore...and lead to firmware 3.0...this will install firmware 3.0.
then you should use redsn0w to unlock and jailbreak firmware 3.0.
after that your phone will work...so then if you want 3.1.2, you should download the custome firmware and follow the procedure available on net already for windows users....
So because I updated to 3.1.2, and it automatically changes the firmware to 05.11.07, I pretty much screwed any chances of unlocking the phone?? Someone please help, I need to unlock ASAP...
well..if you use redsn0w to unlock 3.1.2, it takes forever and nothing happens...you should reinstall firmware 3.0 first..read below...

I have pretty much no idea about firmware 05.11.07..but what i am sure of is that when i accidentally upgraded to 3.1.2, my phone also must have upgraded firmware 05.11.07...
but following the above procedure...helped me downgrade to 3.0 and unlock it with redsn0w..now phone is unlocked and i am already using it...firmware is 3.0 now on my phone...

once you do that...then you can restore to custome 3.1.2 available on net and have 3.1.2 unlocked phone i guess..

Hey everyone if you updated your firmware to 3.1.2 by mistake like I did there is a way to down grade it back to 3.0. You need to download the 3.0 ipsw file first then save it to your desktop, right click on it and hit copy, then open Itunes and restore the Iphone. It will try to update it to 3.1.2 but that's ok. It will say downloading updates, then when it says extracting you need to be ready to quickly replace the file with the 3.0 firmware. Itunes will extract the file to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator (or user name)\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates. Make sure you have this folder open and ready to go. You can not replace it until it is fully done extracting so once it finishes extracting the file it will say preparing Iphone for restore, that's when you need to quickly delete the 3.1.2 extracted file and paste the 3.0 ipsw file and it will restore the Iphone to 3.0 and then you will be able to jailbreak it and unlock it. If you do it right it will work 100%. I only figured it out because I sat here for a few hours trying to jailbreak it and updated it by mistake. Don't be an idiot like I was and try to jailbreak it with a T-mobile card in it cuz it won't work. It took me quite a while to realize my stupidity there.
Yes, I've tried that...shift + restore....but it stops in the middle...doesn't finish..gives me an error right before it restores firmware to 3.0...I just think I messed it up when I upgraded it the first time, because it installed 05.11.07...with that firmware there isn't a way to unlock just yet. I gotta find an alternative way around 05.11.07 to downgrade back to 3.0. But how?? I keep getting error message when i try to downgrade.
Can you unlock phone using PwnageTool 3.1.4 (ONLY FOR Mac) even tho it has a firmware of 05.11.07??? I read somewhere that if you have that firmware, you are unable to unlock. There isn't any software out there yet for it. I don't have a Mac, so I was just curious if it did work.

so it may have been, that my phone was jailbroken first...so i didnt get any errors in the middle...

All understood but the quarry is, will it jail break an iphone 3GS which is now at 3.1 upgraded from 3.0.1. Now it is in firmware 05.11.07. I can downgrade it and get it to DFU mode but i have never previously jail broken it. I am a windows user. It is written if i get an custom iphone 3G ipsw from some where but which one of the custom ipsw coz there are different versions in it. Service provider is O2. Plz guide

Yes! you can... but you have to downgrade the baseband to 04.26.08 with fuzzyband, you can download it from Cydia, follow the instructions and thats it! One more thing... Your iphone must be of the first 3g not the new-ones. Hopefully this could help
