Almost a month ago, Apple released the iPhone 3.1 update. Today Apple has released the iPhone 3.1.2 update for iPhone and iPod Touch users. This update does not really add anything new, but it does fix important bugs so iPhone and iPod Touch users should update.
The iPhone 3.1.2 software update includes the following:
- Resolves sporadic issue that may cause iPhone to not wake from sleep
- Resolves intermittent issue that may interrupt cellular network services until restart
- Fixes bug that could cause occasional crash during video streaming
How to update to iPhone 3.1.2
1. Connect your iPhone or iPod Touch to your PC.
2. Launch the iTunes application and click the Check for updates button.
3. iTunes will show you the above window saying: “iTunes will update your iPhone to iPhone 3.1.2 software and will verify the update with Apple“. Click on the Update button.
4. An iPhone OS 3.1.2 software update window will show up, click on the Next button. Read and and accept the license agreement. Once you’ve done that your download will start.
5. The file size of this update varies depending on which device you’re updating. Once the iPhone 3.1 firmware update is done downloading it will start the installation process on your iPhone.

Geohot hasn’t confirmed that his jailbreak, blackra1n, fully works with 3.1.2 but appuloha1l (a developer i’ve never heard of up until yesterday and may be a fraud) is claiming to be releasing a 3.1.x software for jailbreak of all devices OTB and ALSO claims to be releasing an unlock for the 3.1.x baseband, so you iPhone users that need an unlock may still be in luck. appuloha1l and ferociousbird (the unlock) are supposed to release this Sunday.

You say we can jailbreak it but so far they havent been able to come up with a jailbreak for 3.1. Ive been patient but it would be nice to know a time frame. And why is windows so much harder than mac?

just plug your iphone to another itunes! (on another pc)
and restore it (with shift).
The battery still sucks. I had no other problem except the terribly poor battery life. Please fix apple.
Just turn off Push Notifications, this should save you a LOT of battery.
I m desperately awaitng for this… yesterday was the firs time i tried to learn how to upgrade, and unfortunately since the latest was the 3.1.2 software, i errenously restored my phone on the same.. i have a edge one which is why i used the iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, now all i see is a usb cable sign pointing to itunes, when i go to itunes it says that my Sim is not supported, i am completeley trapped, now as i understand since my phone is restored on iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, only blackra1n can help me, please let me know if there are any other work arounds… (this is the first time i tried and i guess i have fallen into trap) any help will be appreciated.. thanks.
Download the iphone 3.0 restore ipsw file. Start iTunes. Connect your phone and put in DFU mode. After iTunes finds your iphone hold shift while clicking restore. This will allow you to choose an ipsw file to restore too. Choose the 3.0 ipsw file you downloaded. The restore with 3.0 may fail the first time. Just try it again. After a successfull 3.0 restore your phone will still be locked. Use redsn0w and the downloaded 3.0 ipsw to unlock your phone. When using redsn0w DO NOT try to unlock, install cydia and icy all at once!! It will fail. Run redsn0w 3 times; once for unlock, once for cydia and once more for icy. Good luck!!
So, what is blackra1n? blackra1n is a 30 second ALL device 3.1.2 jailbreak. Even the ipt3, but the ipt3 is tethered. In order to boot it, just rerun blackra1n. As far as donations go, they are much appreciated, but not until after blackra1n works for you. I never ask for donations before the tool is released.
Warning 3g and 3gs unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.

Simple jailbreak, all you have to do is click the button "Make it Rain", and it jailbreaks. It works for all iDevices, (even 3rd gen ipod touch, but the 3rd gen one is a tethered jailbreak)
Nice. I thuought my iPhone’s hardware is failing due to the seemingly unresponsive ‘home’ button. The problem seems to be gone after I patched to 3.1.2 though. Kudos Apple, and thank you to quickpwn for the news!

WoW!!! Here we go again…. I get the update to work on my phone, but now every time i sync it to itunes it doesnt recognize my phones contents so it wants me to restore my phone to factory settings. Bull Crap

Try Blackra1n again. I had the same issue: would jailbreak OK, but lost network settings. He’s fixed it. I now have a jailbroken iphone 3g 3.12
Any one please! How do you update the iPhone software after downloading it from outside iTunes. iTunes doesnt seem to have a way of directing it to an already downloaded iPhone 3.1.2 update other than it going to the iTunes store. The store is too slow for dowloading this big update .
