iPhone 3.1.2 update message

Almost a month ago, Apple released the iPhone 3.1 update. Today Apple has released the iPhone 3.1.2 update for iPhone and iPod Touch users. This update does not really add anything new, but it does fix important bugs so iPhone and iPod Touch users should update.

The iPhone 3.1.2 software update includes the following:

  • Resolves sporadic issue that may cause iPhone to not wake from sleep
  • Resolves intermittent issue that may interrupt cellular network services until restart
  • Fixes bug that could cause occasional crash during video streaming

How to update to iPhone 3.1.2

1. Connect your iPhone or iPod Touch to your PC.

2. Launch the iTunes application and click the Check for updates button.

3. iTunes will show you the above window saying: “iTunes will update your iPhone to iPhone 3.1.2 software and will verify the update with Apple“. Click on the Update button.

iPhone 3.1.2 Download Links

If you are having trouble downloading the iPhone 3.1.2 firmware through the iTunes Application then you can directly download the appropriate firmware for your device using the below links:

Note: Don’t use Safari to download iPhone 3.1.2 IPSW files, instead use another browser. Safari downloads this as a .ZIP and iTunes is not able to recognize the firmware that way.

iPhone 3.1.2 Jailbreaking information

You can jailbreak your iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, or iPod Touch on iPhone 3.1.2. I will update this post once an iPhone 3.1.2 jailbreak is out.

I currently have a jail broken and unlocked iphone running 3.0 and baseband 04.26.08.

How can I upgrade to 3.1.2 and keep it unlocked? With itunes, it will only allow me to upgrade to 3.1.3.

I really want 3.1.2 because it has a great feature to disable the constant Outlook calendar alarms (I only want them on my PC and not also on my iphone). But I use my iphone on T-mobile and I need to keep it unlocked. I can not risk going to 3.1.3 using itunes because it will lock my phone again.

Which non-itunes tool can I use to simply upgrade my iphone to the latest unlocked release?

Did anyone find an answer to this yet? I have iPhone 3GS with 3.0 and I want to update to 3.1.2 without going to 3.1.3…any help would be appriciated.

I keep getting this error when I try to use the Restore function with the shift key
      :
“The iPhone” could not be restored. This device isn’t eligible for the requested build.

      Please help!

I am trying to upgrade to this version after 3.1.3 has been released.. I downloaded the file but can’t seem to be able to install it through iTunes.. any ideas?

  5. mtlgurl says:

Hazem: I successfully installed 3.1.2 on my phone by using shift-restore (on PC) or option-restore (mac) within itunes rather than the automatic upgrade to 3.1.3. Make sure your phone is thoroughly backed up before doing this since it will wipe your phone clean to the non-jailbreaked 3.1.2 version.

For some reason I had to install the version twice but then I was allowed to restore my latest backup.
    I’ll jailbreak it again next..
    Hope this helps.

Currently there is no solution yet to unlock the OS 3.1.3 You went back to 3.1.2 but still have the baseband at 3.1.3, that is why the iPhone does not have any signal with the T-mobile sim card or at&t sim card.

I have an iPhone banner at the main website. Do some reading and just enjoy the iPhone 3G as an iPod.
