Droid does support Adobe Flash

One important feature that Verizon forgot to include in their Droid Does commercial is that the Droid phone does support Flash while the iPhone doesn’t! Earlier this year, Adobe announced that they will be releasing a mobile version of their Flash Player for Android, Windows Mobile, and the Palm webOS. The iPhone OS was not included in this list.
The Droid will be running Android 2.0 operating system. Flashplayer is expected to be released for the Android OS and other mobile operating systems some time in early 2010. With multi-tasking, Flash, and the most popular carrier, the Droid does stand a pretty good chance at competing with the iPhone. Will it be an iPhone killer? We’ll find out soon enough! The launch date is expected to be some time in early November.

I loved my iPhone. I had the 1-G from the get go when they came out. With AT&T it all depends on where you live. I live in a state line area, not near any interstates. I had a flat line (no bars) coverage indicator at home in my living room, no service in the basement. I had one tenth of the first bar of coverage at work. The work building was an average cinder block construction with windows. No coverage = why do I have this phone with AT&T? I had NO interest in jail breaking it. I never bought the 3-G because of poor AT&T coverage for me (and their own map shows no 3-G coverage where I live). AT&T customer support for me was always very good but I explained to them, the phone is no good without coverage. I got the Droid, and have full coverage at home even in the basement and at work! I’m waiting patiently for Flash, which right now seems will never happen on the iPhone.. My iPhone is now an iPod touch. Since I rarely had service on that phone it seems that nothing has changed…..as I said it’s now a great iTouch. When the battery goes I’ll decide if I want to pursue changing it. Not a problem on the Droid!
The Droid is the most amazing piece of equipment to join my team since I bought a Mac Book Pro. This little phone is capable of amazing things, and has delivered more than I was hoping for in a smart phone. My previous phones were Blackberrys, but compared to the Droid they were toys.
I have an FTP client on my Droid that works at speeds comparable to my Mac with small file loads. The Blackberry never would hook up to the Mac without a PC emulator, Droid hooks up easily giving you access to all of your files.
There are plenty of apps to make the phone do almost whatever you would like. Installing and uninstalling is as effortless as it is on a Mac, and maybe better.
Droid really does, and with Flash it will be complete.
Any Verizon customer in search of a smart phone would be spending their money wisely on this phone. Buying this phone online brought me an extra $100.00 discount on top of the $100.00 two year upgrade discount. $99.00 for a powerhouse like this is amazing.

the droid is a great device with many short comings.
I am sick and tired of the “Flash” discussion, let me put this to rest THE DROID DOES NOT HAVE A FLASH PLAYER ! neither does the iphone. Adobe says in first half of 2010 it will, maybe they both will, maybe none of them will.
The music player in Droid…sucks!
one of the best apps for the droid to download for free is “Advanced Task Killer” to shut down the apps you have running since you tried to use them. A similar app should be built in the system to monitor whats running and slowing my phone down.
as far as media player device, videos must be mp4 that’s it. and not all formats work so find the best and stick with it.
And yes, the screen is gorgeous 854 x 480 but that is not a normal format conversion setting so…again good luck finding what works.
my wife returned her droid because as a phone …it is a second or third function to the web browser.
the maps and gps are great, i just wish it had speed camera locations and i would leave my tomtom at home.
so be aware flash player by june 2010 may never happen and a better phone will probably be out by then too.
Dude **** off. Ur so jelious of droid its sickening. Ur prob locked in with ur no coverage iphoney for another year. Don’t rip droid cuz ur stuck with at&t and ur pissed about it. And u say the music player sucks well let’s see what’s a music player supposed to do? Uhhhh PLAY MUSIC dumb ass and that’s what it does and it plays fine idk what else u expect a music player to do besides PLAY MUSIC!
Wow… seriously?
You should think about looking into a few things like, spelling, grammar, and common courtesy. ronf57 mentioned that his wife had the Droid, but returned it so he clearly has experience with the phone. In no way does he appear jealous. He also never mentioned anything about having an iPhone.
I personally own the Droid and love it, but the shortcomings he mentioned are real. The music player is seriously lacking. Sure it plays music, but the interface is less than satisfactory. Also, the camera is terrible.
Common courtesy should also dictate to you that “swearing” at someone isn’t a way to carry on an adult conversation. Grow up or get off the internet and leave it to the adults.
Music player is seriously lacking what? It plays music just like my Ipod Touch. NO DIFFERENT! As a matter of FACT the speaker sound on the Droid is better than the speaker on the Touch, there’s no question about that.
One thing that AT&T could do is start a “Droid doesn’t” ad campaign. Here are two huge shortcomings on Droid:
It doesn’t have bluetooth hands-free dialing. Yes, there is a “voice dial” app that it comes with, but it still makes you have to touch the phone to confirm that your voice input was correctly registered. this is a killer if you have the phone in your pocket, and you’re driving.
It doesn’t have full VOIP Skype, it only has “Skype Lite” which burns your cell minutes instead of going over the 3G or WiFi networks.
And as somebody mentioned
I accidentally hit the “add reply” button before I finished my last note. I was going to add that the iphone DOES have full VOIP Skype. Although, as far as I could tell, getting Apple/AT&T to bring it out was as painful as pulling water out of a stone. But the bottom line is, iphone has it, and Android doesn’t.
The music player is fine. Is it better than iphones? Idk, but probably not. It does its job. Oh, and the droid does let you know what’s running and you can turn them off by just going into settings. He may not have known that however since his wife didn’t keep her phone long. The camera needs some work, but I’m sure that will through ota’s. The droid however DOES NOT SUCK. It is a beast, but it just comes down to preferences.
Oh ya and u can just go check adobe out and they clearly states in bold FLASH 10 IS COMMING FO SHOOO.. so ya once again be jelious ron.
Well I bet Pat is thinking,,, Uhhhhhh Yes Seriously, I didn’t kno you could be so astonished by a post that you’d actually stoop to Pats level (tho he may be a midget idk I’m just saying) and go and talk a bunch of jibrish and yes jibrish it was. Your arguing about a music player which I love Droid music player by the way but yet just a music player. It does what it’s supposed to do like Pat#1 stated, and I seriously don’t know what else you want from it. Pat#2 what else do u really want? Lil Wayne ain’t gona hop out of your Droid, go behind you and hook you up with a reach around, it’s just not going to happen, I’m sorry but IT AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN SO QUIT DREAMING! Oh and “get off the internet, get a life, and leave it to the Adults who don’t sit at a PC all day and try to sound like macho man reply to all posts and act hard through typed words.
That not pat or another pat guy was right! Pat 2 seems like he doesn’t know a damn thing about anything let alone a smartphone. STUPIDDDDD! Why return Droid? DING DING you got it STUPIDIDY and I don’t care about spelling Pat 2 so no need to tell me about it. The only shortcommings is your lack knowledge of the device you supposedly use everyday. I’m not going to discuss the music player cause the guy above me said it better than anyone ever could put it. You straight up defended ron to only end up making youself look dumb. Haha and pat 2 said leave it to the adult. Well if were leaving it to the adults then why do even speak? Your knowledge is of a 12YR old with a beeper or two way.
I’m not even gettin involved in the argument! All I got to say is that the droid is the most awesome device I have ever owned. I purchased my droid on November 9th and ever since then I’ve never had to use a computer again, or ask anybody for anything because the droid has all the answers!
Wow lots of heated discussion from so called adults. Is everyone seriously getting this worked up over choices in smartphones? Pathetic whiners……
Back to the discussion at hand, Yay flash on droid.
P.S. Google chrome has a built in spell checker.
Ok now keep gripping people i enjoy the show.
The droid is a great phone. Arguably the best smartphone on the market.
That said, you’re all idiots — ESPECIALLY Pat. Spend your money on remedial English classes instead of geek toys, moron.
I got the Droid on December 20 and so far I can’t put the phone down, it’s been great I found stores in my town I didn’t even know was there. The coverage is awesome, I can basically do everything on the Droid that I can do on my laptop. I will definitely recommend this phone with friends and family, the one thing is I wish flash player was out now but I have a couple more weeks till it arrives.
I just bought my droid on december 2nd. I absolutely love this phone. I have a few friends that own the iphone and they are quite impressed with the power of the droid. The droid is still a pretty new phone and there are still a few bugs to be worked out. After reading some of the comments here I find that it really just comes down to personal preferences. I like my motorola droid better than the iphone due to what I believe to be superior design. I’m a sucker for the simple things. The droid offers much higher volume when watching videos. The iphone could be hard to hear sometimes. Well that’s my take on the droid.
I’ve been using my dads droid a lot recently (I am only 14) and I love it. Both my parents have iPod touches, and I think they are both great, but I think the Droid is a little better. My dad’s friend has an iPhone, so don’t go telling me that the iPhone is way better. I like the droid’s sound quality, physical keyboard, voice search, and gps navigation. I love the Droid. I hope to get my own (when I can afford one)
Well I have the Eris so I can’t really defend the droid itself but I will say this. The Android OS is phenomenal! It’s such a user friendly experience, and I personally believe (in my opinion) that this will be the iPhone killer. Not the phones themselves (unless Google can create a phenomenal multimedia device that’s also a really good phone) but the Android firmware. It’s such an open source supportive OS that 1000s of apps are appearing within months, that and its so easy to use. Not to mention that its creator is the worlds largest search engine. Talk about big things coming in small packages eh? Not to say the iPhone is terrible its amazing when used as a multimedia device, but as far as being a true phone well theres always room for improvement (if not alot). And with Verizon Wireless’ coverage (not to mention that there upgrade to 4G LTE network will make mobile browsing extraordinary) I must say that its the perfect combination. And can’t wait to see android 2.0 on the eris!
I just got the droid its great and has much more advantages than the iphone but that’s my opinion. As a matter of fact I’m typing on it right now! Reccomended by me!
Flash for the Droid rocks. Both the i-phone and the Droid are amazing pieces of equipment and neither one “sucks”. If you are a safari guy, iTunes, or any kind of “i” guy than the i-phone is for you. If you are a Google guy than the seamless integration between your Google apps is impressive. Personally, I am a Mac computer guy who uses everything Google that syncs “fantastically” with my Droid. The fact that Flash will/is (depending on when you read this) is coming to the Droid and not the i-phone is suspect… but to the winners go the spoils!
I love my Droid, it is addicting! Yes,a task manager should have been built in or at a minimum Verizon should have told consumers to download it. I had to learn about advanced task manager from my bar tender on New Years Eve.
Without it, the battery depletes quickly. Anymore suggestions on battery usage is appreciated as when I am on the web, it goes down quickly.
there is an app manager built in.

Anyone know if the issue with not being able to send audio in text messages on the Droids is being addressed?
I am a current Droid owner, and can say first-hand there are some serious shortcomings. I wrote this in an earlier post, but it’s buried in a reply to somebody else. Here are the shortcomings, listed in descending order of seriousness:
1. No hands-free bluetooth dialing. You have to use the droid touchscreen to activate the voice dialer. You then have to touch it again to confirm that the dialer properly interpreted your voice command. This is illegal in many states which now prohibit the operation of a cell phone while driving, unless it is completely hands-free.
2. No flashplayer. Sorry but it doesn’t count if you plaster the media with ads saying “Droid WILL HAVE flash” when it is not slated to be available till summer of 2010, 9 months after the droid was released. Can’t count your chickens before they hatch. So a more accurate statement would be “Droid will probably have flash in 9 months, while the iphone probably won’t”. As a droid owner, I’d rather have steak than sizzle, and both camps are selling sizzle. The sizzle is just louder from the Droid camp.
3. No full voip Skype client. This is huge. iphone currently, as of this very minute, HAS FULL SKYPE while droid DOESN’T. Droid just offers “Skype Lite” which burns up your precious cell minutes rather than using your data plan or wifi. If Apple were smart, they’d whip up a “Droid can’t…” ad campaign, right quick, and this would be the centerpiece!
Don’t get me wrong, I think there are SOME good points with the droid. It’s just that these shortcomings, especially the bluetooth one, are very serious. I upgraded to the droid because my previous “dumb phone”s battery died. I now wish I had just bought a new battery. The dumb phone had bluetooth hands-free operation that worked like a charm. It was a better phone than the droid, and my Palm T|X was a better PDA than the Droid. I’d go back if I could, but I’m now saddled with a 2 year contract, which I can’t get out of.
