New iPod Touch 3G has no camera because of cost

When we found out that the iPod Touch wouldn’t have a camera, we were shocked. The new iPod Touch 3G has no camera because Steve Jobs wanted to reduce the price and not add any unnecessary stuff to the iPod Touch 3G. He does have a good reason for not wanting to add it. Now man people can buy the iPod Touch 3G at a more affordable price. Read Steve Job’s explanation below:
Originally, we weren’t exactly sure how to market the Touch. Was it an iPhone without the phone? Was it a pocket computer? What happened was, what customers told us was, they started to see it as a game machine. Because a lot of the games were free on the store. Customers started to tell us, “You don’t know what you’ve got here — it’s a great game machine, with the multitouch screen, the accelerometer, and so on.”
We started to market it that way, and it just took off. And now what we really see is it’s the lowest-cost way to the App Store, and that’s the big draw. So what we were focused on is just reducing the price to $199. We don’t need to add new stuff — we need to get the price down where everyone can afford it. – Steve Jobs

hey wtf they reduced the nano tho by 50 dolars not 30 like the touch n now it has camera tat makes no sense they could of added the camera witout reducing but seriously they reduced the nano by more n added a camera steve jobs **** you!!!

So iPod touch 3G is iPod touch 2G with more memory and ram. Apple what an epic fail. It’s really just and iPod touch 2G no point unless you need the memory
As for Zune HD it’s gonna beat iPod touch and because of Steve stupid mistake Microsoft might win so screw you apple big let down

I understand what Steve was talking about. It’s the best portible gameing system and most of the games are $0-$10. He wanted to perfect the iPod touch by making it faster, more memory, and cheaper. Although a camera wouldve been freaking awesome, it’s ok. It’s all good
YES!!! YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS? It means that a camera for an iPod touch will be sold SEPERATLEY so 2nd gen users will not have to cough up 300 dollars for the same device with a camera.

f**cking Steve Jobs… Wants to make competition with PSP & the DS.. we do not need the iTouch to be a gaming System… we have either our PS3s or Xbox360s. Stop wasting money on developing stupid games and use it for something else!! for ie: BUILT-IN CAMERA! in it.
Competition with DS? The DSi has a camera. Where’s the competition there? DSi would be a no-brainer. A camera in the iTouch would have made it more desirable and thus creating more competition between those two devices.
To have a camera in the iTouch and to not have to carry game cartridges or UMD’s would be more of a benefit to me. It’s hard for me to believe that “customers” didn’t mention not having a camera. Oh well, what’s done is done and SJ can kick himself later.

Seriously? Nobody wants an 8GB iPod touch. We all expected 16GB at $200. Turns out the 8GB is still essentially second gen hardware. Apple’s site says the “speed improvements” are in the 32/64GB ones only. So it’s a huge rip-off. 8GB touch for $200 or 16GB Zune HD for $220? Oh and 32GB iPod Touch for $300 or 32GB Zune HD for $280?
Look! Steve made the disision not you, shore I would have loved a camera but its still better than other products that are made from plastic and break like shit!!! If he makes it to much better people will stop buying the iPhone and go cheaper the bottom line is apple is quality and by next year the touch will be about 12x better so stop worrying about what’s better because you CANT BEAT APPLE.

while im dissappionted i know y apple didnt and probably wont hv an ipod touch with a camera.
they need at least a 2mpx cam bcos otherwise ppl will get even more frustrated that their cam doesnt take good pictures and they r paying for it. okay so they need to add the same cam they used on the 1st iphone and 2nd (even thicker) iphone on something that is a lot thinner than both (almost 1/2 as thick at its thickest point than 2gen iphone). and they hv to update the internals to match the iphone 3gs. the only remaining possibility is to cut the battery life which is not good to start with then ppl will complain about its batt life. so the only possibility wud be to make it thicker but knowing apple thats not gna happen. so now ur thinking that they managed to add a cam to nano so y cant they add it to touch? well the cam they used in nano is no gud. it is vga which is what the 1st phones with cameras used. so its a shit cam but to cover up the fact that it doesnt take gud pics, apple prevent u from taking pics so u can only record video at 30fps which covers it pretty gud. most basic phones record video at vga resolution so the dif is harder to notice. now this is what apple has become: innovative so they can try to cheat the consumer. a trend that started with the intro of the iphone and few apple fans notice and live in their apple world where everything shiny and with an apple sticker on it is perfect.

I see that apple has lost the desire to give good stuff. they “make” a new iPod Touch but if you see it’s only a 2nd generation iPod with bigger capacity. Apple just worry about the money they get and not for the products

You ppl are missing the point, they are doing the same thing they did to the iPhone 3G/3gs, they are making it more affordable for those who do not have one, not to get those who want to upgrade to a new one to buy one, this is a smart move by steve jobs, he is doing what Microsoft did with PCs, he is putting one in the hand of every house hold “member” either way apple has still had the upper hand on all of this, they may fall slightly in stocks over the next 2-3 months but when Christmas comes, more parents will buy an iPod touch than a Zune due to pricing, plus why does an iPod need a camera anyways….you can use a digital camera with a wifi SD card and set up an adhoc….plus to put the camera apple wanted into the ipodtouch, those mechanics run up to 150 bux depending on the mp…and those $10 phones have VGA cameras which are shit compaired to the camera in an iPod, well with this last thing said, just wait till iPod 4g is put out….

Well, I don’t think it became much more affordable. I mean the price only fell from 225 to 199 for the 8GB version with no new stuff except more RAM.
