When we found out that the iPod Touch wouldn’t have a camera, we were shocked. The new iPod Touch 3G has no camera because Steve Jobs wanted to reduce the price and not add any unnecessary stuff to the iPod Touch 3G. He does have a good reason for not wanting to add it. Now man people can buy the iPod Touch 3G at a more affordable price. Read Steve Job’s explanation below:
Originally, we weren’t exactly sure how to market the Touch. Was it an iPhone without the phone? Was it a pocket computer? What happened was, what customers told us was, they started to see it as a game machine. Because a lot of the games were free on the store. Customers started to tell us, “You don’t know what you’ve got here — it’s a great game machine, with the multitouch screen, the accelerometer, and so on.”
We started to market it that way, and it just took off. And now what we really see is it’s the lowest-cost way to the App Store, and that’s the big draw. So what we were focused on is just reducing the price to $199. We don’t need to add new stuff — we need to get the price down where everyone can afford it. – Steve Jobs

I have a 1 st gen and I like using it to browse without loading up a computer to do so. I like plugging the headphone Jack into my cr and listening to the music I have pit on here.
I have a 360 and a ps3. I play cod4 ( soon modern warfare 2 ) on a 1080P 52 inch tv.
I have played the games on this tiny screen and it amuses me, for about 5 minutes! This isn’t a gaming system. Never will be.
I was going to buy my wife one for the camera and video. The iPhone I great at talking pictures and viewing them. Not just a camera which I usually jut great for taking them. Plus she can have all her and vids there in her pocket. FK it, I’ll have to buy something else.
Somebody said it right before here. Apple didn’t used to care so much about the bottom line , but rather make a solid product. Looks like greed has become the cancer in the company that has shot to the top so fast.

in better words, steve jobs will bring 4G touch into play by Xmas time saying “we listened to people demands, so introducing touch w/video” (crowd claps)… Or i look at it in a different way, do not give install camera, because it may kill the sells on the 3GS… why? people text more than talking on the phone anyway… we allowed texting apps to enter our stores….
well I would pay more to get a camera in my Ipod tou, I don’t think this is good idea, why would i pay for useless ipod tou when there is a ipod camera?
whoever said there is good reason for it is not thinking THEN why wouldn’t they take the Iphone camera so it will be cheaper? the good idea here is to buy used iphone from craigslist.org or whatever web

I was very disappointed when i found out that the new iPod touch didn’t have a camera, but Steve jobs make perfect sense if u really want a camera just get the iPhone, also for the camera on iPod nano, it’s a waste of money I mean sure it’s a cool feature but you can’t even take pictures! Also it will be a pain uploading videos on to different computers since it uses iTunes
i guess apple should build an accessories for ipod touch that have camera function so if someone need that for their ipod touch, they can buy for it

Aww…this is just sad. My 8yr old wants this for her bday in 5 days, but she thought it had a camera :( I am so disappointed with Apple for this and for the 2g, 3g/s. I have a 1st generation iPhone that I will keep as long as possible. Reason: it isn’t a poorly made pos, it’s from back when Apple actually put pride into their work. I’m getting so tired of the greed. Apple, you guys need to focus on quality, not quantity bc most of your customers (atleast from the beginning) are willing to pay the extra $$$ for a better product. I currently have 6 pretty highend Apple products in my home that I could easily replace with your competitors!

I don’t know why a Nano owner would want a video camera and ONLY a video camera on that tiny thing. I’d have to say that a much greater number of people would want an iTouch with a camera than a Nano with a semi-camera. Looks like I’ll be holding off an iTouch purchase for a few years!

I too was ready to buy an Ipod Touch. I was going to get the 64 gig model and found out there was no camera. I will just have to wait for the next gen of ipods. Come on Steve Jobs, get the clue!!!

I agree with most of the others opions. I have and iPod touch 2G and was going to buy a 3G just to have the camera! I don’t even see what you changed other then dropping the price $25, why didn’t you just drop the price of iPod touch 2G? Some people are just insults to human intelagents, like you! This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of in my life. You lost many cotumers doing this, and from what I’ve read it will continue to decline. Then maybe you’ll think twice about this bull shit. About an iPhone my opion is that they are worthless, and over priced. I mean you can buy any other touch screen cell and not have to pay extra to use it, ha, it really humars me how stupid you are.
Wow… well, I trust Apple’s marketing acumen. They’ve certainly earned years worth of credibility. But I, too, have to say that the ONLY reason I was waiting to buy an iPod Touch was to get the camera and (I’m assuming) built-in mic. I was even considering buying my wife a new one, and the one she has was only a few months old at the time. Maybe down the line.
Well I must agree with others here…I wanted to buy new touch, but without camera…today you’ve got camera almost in every device, and that few more money would be likely spared than buy it without camera. Well now I don’t know if buy it or not. I think I’m going to find something different…
