In order to send MMS, your phone must be capable of browsing the internet as well. Sort of.

MMS requires an 'online connection' to send messages. This is why some mobile carriers need to send configuration settings to your mobile phone (I'm talking any-brand mobile here) that'll enable GPRS (or in developed countries -- EDGE and 3G).

On the iPhone... it's quite ridiculous, but I found that it requires at least a WIFI connection to send MMS!! This is ridiculous because I am able to send MMS on an old Sony Ericsson with GPRS (a slower version of EDGE). That said, the iPhone can send MMS messages with much, MUCH better images -- and of course bigger filesizes, hence the WIFI or (at least) 3G requirement.

Will try to confirm this again folks. You might be able to send certain MMS (ie: contacts or very small, edited and compressed-with-an-external-app-pics) via an EDGE connection.

I was getting red ! everytime I tried to send mms. After trying multiple ipcc files, 5.0 seems to work for me.
- Applied 5.0 carried update, rebooted.
- Reset network settings, rebooted
- Set mms apn settings to the following, then rebooted
   - APN: wap.cingular
     mmsc: http://mmsc.cingular.com
     mms proxy: 066.209.011.032
     mms max msg size: 614400
- Working MMS now

You seem to have the same thing I do. If you have 3.1, and you updated carrier settings, give reset network settings (in Settings) a try.

I have a jailbroken 3G, running 3.1. All I did was reset network settings after updating carrier settings and voila! It all works now.

Give it a try, it might work for you too.
